▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ • {Semper iter nam} • Always for the journey ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ I’m a writer, a reader, a bit of a day-dreamer, can be found lurking on the Books and Authors section, I give help and advice where I can, and live the other half of my double-life as UnderxYourxSpell (or simply ‘Spell’ – less of a mouthful) on Booksie. Speaking of Booksie, and writing, and reading, and helping people, and you can probably throw day-dreaming into the equation too, I have a link to my writing here: http://www.booksie.com/UnderxYourxSpell and would love any and all feedback you can give to a poor aspiring author like me. Thank you for stopping by, fellow wordweavers and bookworms! —Verið glaðir ok heil—

  • What are the Seven Deadly Sins of Writing?

Many writers, particularly the young or inexperienced, commit one or more of the Sins of Writing at some point, whether it's 'telling' instead of 'showing', overusing adverbs, and so on. What, in your opinion, are the seven worst crimes you can commit when writing? And if your story does fall foul of these Deadly Writing Sins, how can you rectify them, and avoid committing them in the future? (Detailed answers will be greatly appreciated.)

  • Maintaining eye contact with others?

I can maintain eye contact easily with people my own age, or who I'm comfortable with, but I find it very hard to keep eye contact with older people, perhaps because they're more intimidating. Also, I'm quite a shy, introverted person, so maybe that's part of it too. I have an interview in a few days and an important skill to master is keeping eye contact with the interviewer. Do you have any tips on how to make maintaining eye contact easier?

    Thank you in advance!

  • How would you describe the sea to someone who is blind?

Here is a question for anyone who loves creating vivid, poetic descriptions.

How would you describe the sea to someone who's blind? This person wasn't always blind, but they have never seen anything as vast as the sea. How would you describe the colours, the waves, the size, the atmosphere, and so on? What imagery, similes and metaphors would you use to illustrate a mental picture of the sea?

I'm not looking for an explanation of the sea is or simple facts about it; I'm looking for vivid, sense appealing description. Think of it as a test of your descriptive skills.

  • Your opinion on this matter?

This relates to all the 'What do you think of my story?' questions on here.

How many people are actually looking for genuine advice when they ask these questions, and how many are simply looking for an ego boost? In my experience, many Best Answers to these questions are the ones that contain the most praise, well deserved or not. However, there are people out there who genuinely want people to critique their stories for them. What's your opinion on the matter?

  • Information on ancient Athens?

I'm writing a story set in ancient Athens and I'm looking for some information about what the city was like at the time (around 500-400 BC). What was the architecture of the city like? By this, I mean specifically the streets and houses. Were the streets wide and open, or quite narrow? Were they systematically planned out or not? That sort of thing. As for the houses, what was a typical Athenian house like? Any other information you might think would be useful would be very much appreciated!

  • What are forests like in countries such as Norway and Sweden?

I'm currently writing a story and part of it is set in the forests of Norway and Sweden (the exact setting is a wooded valley, in which there are several waterfalls). I need to be able to describe the surrounding forest but I can't find much detailed information about Norwegian/Swedish forests elsewhere so I hope you can help me. What types of trees/undergrowth/flowers are there? What sort of birds and mammals live there? What would the atmosphere be like in the forest itself (i.e. is it light and airy or dark and close?) Anything else you can think of that would be helpful would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

  • What do you love about fantasy books?

My friend once said to me that she didn't like the fantasy genre because the things that happened in it (like magic) wouldn't happen in real life. But for me, that's the reason why I love fantasy so much; it allows me to escape from the real world. What about you? What draws you to fantasy books? Why do you love them so much?

  • What is the difference between the threshold frequency and the work function?

In the photoelectric effect, what is the difference between the threshold frequency and the work function? I keep getting mixed up between the two. Can someone please explain simply what each is so that, in my mind, I will know clearly what each is and won't get mixed up in my physics exam tomorrow? Thank you in advance!

  • My computer keeps logging me off of websites. Help!?

I log on to websites like facebook and yahoo but my computer keeps logging me out, even though I click the 'remember me' box. On youtube, I signed in, clicked the 'stay signed in' option, but within a minute it had logged me out again, and then it did it again after I logged back in. It's really starting to annoy me :( This didn't happen on my old computer, but it keeps occurring on my new laptop. Does anyone know why this is happening?

  • Help with composing please?

I'm composing a funeral march (morbid, I know) for my GCSE music class and I've completely no idea where to go with it or what to do with it.

My teacher has helped me decide on playing it in A minor and in ABA form but other than that I've had no input. At the moment, he's going around the class helping people get started but he hasn't got to me yet and I'm starting to panic - I need to compose this and another piece in a few months and I've got nothing so far.

Does anyone know any chords in A minor that I can use, just to get me started and do you have any tips when it comes to composing a funeral march?

    Thank you in advance :)

    2. quasi violoncello (near the end)

    4. attacca (right at the end)

    Thanks!
