Horse keeps clipping her back pasterns.?
She constantly has scratches and sores after she works or just gallops in the field. I use ankle boots, but it's in a place where it's too low to be protected. The only thing my trainer and I could think of was bell boots on the back feet... Which, we haven't tried due to the fact it's so strange.
Do any of you know what I could do?
4 AnswersHorses9 years agoWhat will help me get over my fear of jumping large jumps?
I have been riding since I was 5. I always showed at 2'6. Thats all I ever did because thats the limit the pony could jump. When I was 11 I moved to a different barn. I started jumping bigger there because I could ride bigger horses. Higher meaning 2'9. Not that high. The highest I've ever jumped has been 3'6. Thats after 5 years.... I cant seem to go any higher without my mind totally freaking out. I have a horse that has the ability to easily jump 5ft. I've never had a bad fall over a jump. I know people say "Start small then slowly work up"... yeah... doesnt work really well....
so... what do you got?
4 AnswersHorses10 years agoI dont drink enough water?..?
I pretty much only drink orange juice and sweet tea. I will have a glass of water almost every day. I don't like the taste of water at all. Yea, I taste the water. It's not bad, its just strange to me to drink water.
I've been reading about signs that you get when not drinking enough water, and I dont have any of them. I dont get tired or get headaches after a long work out (I work out for about 2 hours).
What could be happening that i cant see since I'm not drinking enough water. What can I do to help drink more water?
Feel free to ask questions
9 AnswersDiet & Fitness10 years agoHorse is constantly pulling her shoes off?!?
My horse pretty much has to get her shoes replaced every 3 weeks because she is always pulling them off. She only has her fronts, and she wears bell boots. She still pulls them. My riding school has an amazing farrier, so i know its not his fault. Her hooves are constantly dry, so that also might be a factor. She is on "Horseshoer's Secret" and I also apply the conditioner to the hooves everyday.
anyways,,, do you know if anything will help this?
12 AnswersHorses10 years agoMy newly pierced ears still hurt!!?

2 AnswersFirst Aid10 years agoWhich strangles vaccine do you recomend and why?
My trainer just sent an email out to all horse owners at the barn saying that strangles has been going from barn to barn in the area. She gave us a choice of using intranasal or intramuscular. I know both have side effects, but I was just wondering which one you recommend. Thanks!

7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow to NOT cry at a funeral?
I hate the feeling of crying. I just do. I really don't like to cry in front of people also. My friend's dad died, and his funeral is tomorrow. I didn;t know him that well either. I know that I'm going to start crying when I see other people crying.
Do you know of any way to not cry?
Thanks!!!
6 AnswersFriends1 decade agoHorse got rock stuck in hoof today?
Today I had to pry a rock from my horse's hoof. It managed to wedge itself into her frog area. When we were working she was off on her front right (the sore hoof). I was wondering if I should soak it in some salt, or do something else to help it heal and feel better.
10 AnswersHorses1 decade agoI dont breath when i ride?
When I'm in the show ring, I don't breath. Lol. I don't know why, but I do. It makes my horse tense. Its only when I'm jumping, and I do it at home, too. I need to breath so my horse can be calmer over fences. My trainer says its a habit that I have probably had since I first started jumping, and my old trainer didn't tell me to breath. Is there any way to break this habit, or am I stuck with it for the rest of my life? :)
Thanks!!

13 AnswersHorses1 decade agoI can't seem to get this horse out of my mind.....?
In 2007 I started riding one of the best school horses at my barn. I fell in love, so i started renting him. He was the first horse that I had all to myself, and it was AMAZING!!! Now, lets skip a few years to august 2009. Horse camp just started, and it was supposed to storm that night, but not bad. I went home after the campers left because i was a counselor. The owners of the barn turned all the horses out and they went inside to get something and they saw a flash outside.... My baby boy got struck by lightning... (dang im crying)... since then i cant seem to get him out of my mind. When i get on a horse i expect him.. i get so aggravated because they aren't him. My trainer tries to tel me that no other horse will be like him...... :(
i don't really know what I'm asking here, but i was just wondering if there was any way that i can learn to put him aside just while im on another horse so I'm not comparingg?
2 AnswersHorses1 decade agoDo polo wraps really support the leg?
I am starting to jump my TB higher, so i started wrapping her front legs. I've been reading some scary things about polo wraps, but I know how to wrap them correctly and use padding underneath just in case. I was just wondering if they absorb any shock and prevent damage to the tendons.
I'm going to start using open front boots as soon as i can order some.
thanks
8 AnswersHorses1 decade agoIs it too cold to bathe my horse?
Tomorrow will be about 75 degrees and sunny. It will be in the mid 40's tomorrow night, but im sure she will dry by then.
Do you think it will be ok to bathe her? I have a cooler I can put on her, too.
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWould you feel awkward in this situation?
I just started riding this horse for a lady when her daughter go launched off of him. He is just too much horse for her, so I'm probably going to ride and show him until she is old enough to ride him. The lady wants me to show him in a few weeks, but she has to go to her lawyer. I was confused at first, but learned that the owners were in fuss with the previous owner of the horse because of stuff. The previous owner will be at ALL the shows I will be at and I will be on this horse that these people are fighting over. Would you feel awkward in this situation? Oh and another thing is that these people just switched to my riding school and their last place shows where we show. Talk about awkward lol. How do you think I can get over this. Tehe. I'm just so worried it will be weird for me.
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat qualities to you look for when looking for a trainer?
Well I'm bored and just wanted to see what you had to say! My switched trainers 3 years ago when my trainer started yelling too much and started to care only about money. When I switched I test rode at a few barns and I was looking for a trainer who really took the time to work on problems that I needed to fix. I also wanted a trainer that was just very nice person in general and who had lots of show experience; on that would help me place well at shows) I finally found a trainer who had gone to Germany to get a training certificate to become a certified trainer. She was a very nice person who knows how to work with horses and the rider, and also was very patient.
I guess I just like patience. What about you?
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agowhat is your opinion of this bit? what kind of bit do you use?
I use an elevator bit. I know that'd a lot of people think it is too harsh and don't think people should use it because of the severe poll pressure. What is your opinion, if any, of this bit?
Also.. what bit do you use? And why?
I used to use a French link snaffle, because it was a very mild bit, but she didn't listen so we had to put some more brakes on here.
Thanks!
8 AnswersHorses1 decade agoFell off today..... ?
Don't worry guys, this isn't one of those 'i fell off and now in scared to get back on' things; I've fallen off plenty of times. :) Anyways, I was jumping today and people were working on the fences in the pasture next door.. I was cantering up to the jump and everything felt set up and good to go, but my horse just stopped last minute and I went over.(my instructor and I think she was in la la land looking at the workers and didn't see that there was a jump there until last minute) My landing was a very awkward landing and mymy hips went one way and my shoulders twisted the other way. Since then my back has been killing me. I know that this might not be the right place to ask this, but I was wondering what you think might be wrong and what I can do to fix it.. I'm not going to be able to go to a chiropractor because my parents won't let me.
9 AnswersHorses1 decade agoJumper name for my horse?
My horse used to be a race horse, and she has one of those "Why would you name horse this" kinda name. Lol... Her race name was Autumn Mist Paris and her hunter name is Autumn In Paris, but I need a jumper name. I'm not creative, but I have Letters To Paris and Call Me Paris... but I don't really like them. I don't have to have something that has Paris in it lol. I want something catchy.
Thanks
5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHow do i get my horse to slow dow or stop?
My horse is a perfect horse at the walk and trot, but when we canter she is like a racer who just gallops and gallops until she get worn out. I hate always pulling on her. Half halts aren't working too great. I turn her in small circles to make he slow down or transition into the trot. Im worried that the continuous small circles will hurt her joints. When she does slow down, I make the circle bigger, but she takes off.....
I'm not allowed to change bits. (She's not in pain... I have a trainer.... I'm just aggravated)
Thanks!
