  • Am I considered financially independent on the FAFSA?

Okay, I hope this isn't confusing. I am genuinely confused about how I should fill out my FAFSA and am simply looking for some guidance by someone with experience in the area.

I graduated high school in June of 2012. This fall will (hopefully) by my first year of college. I have been unable to attend the past two years due to financial hardships.

According to the FAFSA guidelines (or what I have come to understand, at least) is that an unaccompanied minor is someone not living with legal parents/guardians under the age of 21 (not 18, as I originally thought).

I lived with my mother (my parents are divorced) until the first week of January in 2013 (I was 18). She moved out of town and in with her boyfriend, and I needed to find a place to live (unable to live with father). I ended up staying with a friend until August of 2013.

In the FAFSA guidelines, it states that a person qualifies as being homeless if he/she is living with someone other than his/her parents because he/she has no where else to go. I do not qualify as being homeless because I had the choice to move into my mother's boyfriend's house (i'll spare you the details about how I chose not to do that because he is an awful man).

In the beginning of September of 2013, I got an apartment. I have been financially independent for about one year and two months.

Is there any way that I could be considered independent on the FAFSA? I am financially independent, but to be considered as such on the FAFSA apparently I have to have been an emancipated minor, homeless, et cetera. Am I missing something?

I doesn't really seem fair that I won't qualify as being independent when I have been since I was 18.

Thanks again for your help. I'm just trying to clarify things so I don't screw myself out of another year of schooling. All I want to do is go to college....

  • What is the bump on the inner lip of my vagina?

Sorry if this is a bit descriptive..

There is a bump on the right inner lip of my vagina. It is hard to the touch and the size of a bb for a bb gun. It reminds me of a stye by the way it feels. I can't see it perfectly because of the angle, but it is a bit shiny because it is stretched.

I plan on making an appointment with a gyno, but I won't go for another week because I just got my period. Does any one know what this could be?

I have been working out and spending a great deal of time outside and have been sweating. Could it be from that?

Thanks to everyone that answers this!

  • How to use my loan to build my credit?

I am 18 and just took out a small loan (rather than getting a credit card) to begin building my credit.

The small loan is to pay off my car and I have a credit worthy cosigner. I am signing the papers for the loan tomorrow and I want to be sure that I am going to do everything right to build my credit score.

I have a job and will be able to make all of the payments.

    My question is:

Is it better to make the required payment each month or to pay extra into the loan each month to build my credit score? (If I pay any extra, it will be in a separate principle payment to bring down the overall cost of the loan.)

  • Will I be able to get a car loan?

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus that I purchased about 1.5 years ago at a 'Buy Here, Pay Here' lot.

I was 17 when I purchased the car, so my mother put it under her name while I make the payments.

Two weeks ago, I lost my money order for the car payment ($125 every two weeks) and missed the payment. I had already filled it out and kept the receipt, so I have to stop order. it.

Two days ago, I found my car being towed because the company repossessed it. I have 15-30 days to come up with the money to get my car back. With the back due amount and fee for the tow truck, I need a minimum of $1,150.

I am strongly considering taking out a car loan for the $1,150 and any amount that I still owe on the car (not much, it's almost completely paid off) so that I do not have to deal with the 'Buy Here, Pay Here' lot anymore.

I am 18, independent, and have virtually no credit because I am so young. Neither one of my parents will be able to cosign a loan for me. I know I will need to talk to my bank directly to be sure, but I am looking for information/insight before I jump in. Will I be able to use my car as collateral to get a bank loan? If so, will I still need a cosigner?

Thank you so much for any help/advice that you can give. I truly appreciate it!

  • Incoming freshman - Financial Aid Help?

I am 18 and graduated high school in 2012. I was unable to attend college last fall, and hope that this year I will be able to begin my studies. I have recently filled out my FAFSA and to do this, I had to use my financial information from 2012. In 2012, I lived with my mother and was a dependent.

In January I moved out and am now responsible for food/rent/utilities/car payment.

Because of this, I will not get as much funding as I will need to go to school. Should I send an appeal letter to the both of the schools I am considering, or is there a different way I am supposed to handle this?

Both of my parents have bad credit and most likely will not be able to cosign a loan for me.

I have searched for scholarships to apply for, but most that I found have been restricted to current high school seniors only.

Please include any tips or advice on how I can send myself to school. I am currently applying for a second job to help save for my tuition, but I will need everything I can get.

Thank you so much for your time and advice. It is truly appreciated.

  • How and when do we find out who wins the Presidential election?

I feel a bit foolish, but I just turned 18 and have been following the campaigns of the two main candidates, and I am the only one in my family who is up-to-date on the political issues. Politics have never been popular in my family, so as election day is closing in, I just realized that I don't know how/where to find out who actually WINS! I mean, of course I will find out because it will be all over every type of mass media there is, but is there some kind of ceremony that takes place to announce the winner?

If so, where and when can I watch this?

Sorry if you find this to be a foolish question - I tried google but I think my search was too broad and just got a lot of hooplah.

  • Philosophy major in college?

I am very interested and have a passion for the study of philosophy. If I choose to major in philosophy in college, what are some different ways that I will be able to apply this to a career/what are some career options for a philosophy major?

Thank you so much for you help!

  • What is going on with Muammar Gaddafi in Lybia and Syria?

I turned 18 a few months ago and am finding myself more and more interested in our foreign affairs and politics in general. My parents are not interested/up-to-date on these issues so I haven't researched or been made aware of these situations until now. I am currently watching the third presidential debate but I am finding that I am not properly informed on these topics.

So far, I have gathered that Muammar Gaddafi killed American citizens (please excuse me and politely correct me if I am incorrect) and that there is another issue going on in Syria.

I am not relying on Yahoo Answers to inform me on this, I am also doing some research myself, but I would like to hear from people who have been following these issues since the beginning to help guide me in my search of knowledge.

Please briefly overview these topics and supply any information that you see fit. Thank you so much for the help!

  • Interior design as a major in college?

I am looking to go to school next fall and I am thinking about several possibilities. I am passionate about two things and am considering both as a career path for myself. These two things are helping people (clinical psychology) and design. I have been researching on the internet about interior design and would love to pursue a career in it. I do have an artistic eye and have a knack for it.

    The questions I have are:

What are entry-level jobs like in the interior design world?

How easy is it to find a job like this (I know if must be harder than some other areas of work)?

Any tips or advice on how to succeed in this type of work?

What is the actual work like/what does it consist of after college?

    Thank you so much!

I was looking at Minnie Fay and Ermengarde. I just finished watching the movie and still don't know who I should audition for. Does anyone have any insight?

  • HELP! Where can I find To Kill A Mockingbird online?

Today is finals week at my school and we get out early once we're finished with that days testing. My backpack was in the car and I asked my mother to put it in the house when she got home (i had other things to do) before she went to work because I still had some studying to do for tomorrow. She is gone now, with my backpack still in the car, and i'm not allowed to reach her at work.

I REALLY need to finish reading To Kill A Mockingbird for my AccEnglish 11 final tomorrow. I can't find the book for free online as of right now...if you know where I could get it, I would GREATLY appreciate it. You would be seriously be saving my life. Thank you so much!
