  • What are your thoughts on replacing alto clarinet reeds with alto sax reeds?

I am a clarinetist and I play a lot of alto clarinet, but I always have issues with my alto clarinet reeds, simply due to the fact that there are no quality reeds on the market. The best I have played on are Rico Royals (in my opinion better than vandoren traditionals), but they are still lacking in tone and articulation, and they don't seal to the mouthpiece great.

What are the exact differences between sax and clarinet reeds? I think that sax reeds are longer and wider, but I am not sure. If so, how does this affect the sound of the instrument? Are the reed strengths the same? I know some sax reeds like the V12 and Reserve Classics were originally clarinet reeds then adapted to sax, so would these reeds work best? If it helps anyone answer my question, I play on a C**, and I also have a C*.

  • What is your opinion on Grainger music?

What do you think about Percy Grainger's music? Personally, my favorites are Children's March, Lincolnshire Posy, and Irish Tune from a County Derry.

  • How did slavery dominate the political and economic aspects of southern life from 1840-1860?

I am writing an essay and having trouble finding sources. If you could find any, that'd be great! Thanks!

  • Does anyone else play contra bass clarinet? How high is possible to play?

I have been playing for a few months, and I am wondering how high it can play. My instrument is all metal (I believe it is a selmer), it is tall, not wound up a lot. I can play high C# and have gotten high D out once, but not sure if it was it. Any tips?

  • Does anyone here play an odd instrument?

I play alto clarinet and I love it! I have recently picked up the contrabass clarinet and it is so low and hilarious. My great great uncle played the accordion for a living - now I have it and have been teaching myself. Playing a different instrument is fun and exciting. Who else agrees?

  • Why do random audio files play and search engines have the links pointing to a site other than the result?

Random audio files ("Congratulations! You've won!" (male voice), and "Congratulations! You've won a Nintendo Wii! Please click on the Nintendo Wii to claim your prize. [note: there are no pop-ups to click on] Once again, congratulations!" (Female Voice)) play on my computer. My computer never recognized that audio files were playing, and not all voices played while internet explorer or other programs were running. On a similar note, once two random fish "swam" across my screen.

Whenever I search something on any search engine in any web browser (I checked yahoo and google on ie, firefox, and google chrome), the search succeeds, but all the links are redirected to advertisement-type websites (like the ones that pop up when you type in .com instead of .net).

At the beginning I had several spyware such as trojans and I scanned using Yahoo CA Antispy and they have not returned. I have noticed that there is an arbitrary code vulnerability that was in internet explorer very recent to the start of my problems (around the weekend of valentine's day). I tried updating ie from various locations, tried installing ie 8RC1, and I tried uninstalling ie, but the computer won't allow me to do any of these actions.
