  • Is aiming to lose only one pound of weight per month going to backfire?

I would like to lose weight but want to do it slowly - and permanently - through gradual habit changes - intake and exercise. I really only need to lose about 10 pounds but have found that very difficult. Most info talks about trying to lose a pound a week - requiring a 500 calorie/day deficit. I think that's just crazy - especially when I am only slightly overweight.

I already do or don't do all those "easy" calorie reductions - I never drink calories, rarely eat fast food, eat mostly complex carbs etc. I don't have any big changes I can make - really only incremental changes, portion control and keep reducing even my "good" snacks (like popcorn!)

But if I only aim for 1 pound per month - will my body just keep slowly adjusting to the slight deficit and resetting my BMR? or will I actually see pounds come off?
