So dumb question, but how do I send a letter in a typical city?
I've lived in the country my whole life where you can just put up the red arrow on my mailbox and the mailperson picks up the letter. After moving to a city, do I just stick a letter in my mailbox and theyll take care of it, or are there boxes scattered about that I need to deposit in?
4 AnswersEtiquette7 years agoIs a modem tied to one computer?
So I will be getting internet, and I already have a modem approved by the isp I'll be using. However, I have an old laptop, and will be getting a new desktop computer in a month. My question is can the isp set up the modem through my laptop, and then when my desktop comes in can I just switch the modem to my desktop? Or will the modem only be usable on my laptop if it was initially set up on the laptop?
3 AnswersComputer Networking8 years agoCan I hook up my laptop to my old computer screen?
So my laptops screen has some problem with the wires, and the display won't stop scrolling. It's old enough that I'm not going to fix the wires, order a new screen, but I was curious if i could hook it up to a monitor that i have from another computer. This other monitor has the cable with two blue screws and a bunch of pins, and the back of my laptop has the same input (like for powerpoint projectors). Is there some button i need to press when i hook it up to transmit to the other monitor? Btw just wanting to do this to retrieve a few files like music and papers.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoGood soil what to grow?
So now that I can have my own garden, what in your opinion are the best fruits/veggies to grow in the midwest. Please make your decision based on multiple factors like how easy it is to maintain, initial cost, pest problems, etc. It's a pretty big space that I'll grow on, around 30 by 60 feet.
4 AnswersGarden & Landscape8 years agoLoopholes for ROM games?
So parody musicians can release a modified version of a copyrighted song. Also, you can cite video, etc, if you are using it for commentary ie freedom of the press. So does that mean people can legally release game ROMs as long as they have their text replaced with parody, or critical commentary inserted in?
2 AnswersVideo & Online Games8 years agoIs there an opposite to reaction formation?
So way back in gen psy in college I remember reaction formation was the term for putting on a mask, acting as if you despise what you really are (ie a black-hating black person, a gay-hating gay person). So is there a phenomena where a person acts like they love something that they truly hate on the inside?
2 AnswersPsychology8 years agoCould a comet/asteroid with a high melting/boiling point spell bad news for us?
So my understanding is that most objects entering are something like iron nickel alloys, which have relatively low melting and boiling points. My question would be would something like an asteroid, almost entirely made of graphite/diamond (extremely high melting/boiling), get hot enough to actually break apart significantly upon entry to our atmosphere.
5 AnswersAstronomy & Space8 years agoDo perceived senses vary? And how does one scientifically test this.?
For instance when I see red do you see a new color, or when I small cinnamon do you perceive it as something vastly different. If this is the case, I would think it would have major effects on a person's behavior.
1 AnswerPsychology9 years agoWhat would this look like as a formula?
So this is in relation to an MMO, but is a math question. The way you successively hit someone is the result of two die being rolled. One is the effective offense and one is the effective defense. Effective offense and defense are both in direct proportion to attack and defense lvls, respectively. So, for example, if you had 50 attack and the opponent had 50 defense, there is a 50% chance of hitting. My question is how one would graph this or just how to find the formula, because I want to know if it's a linear function or not.
1 AnswerMathematics9 years agoIs there a medical name for this phenomena?
Though portrayed humorously in Step-Brothers, the phenomena is when you get what feels like a short electrical jolt at the tip of the penis. This happens to me when I'm doing something normal, and something like a sexy commercial or thought comes into my mind and I get the 'jolt'. It's not like I pitch a tent afterwards, but my theory is that it's just the nerve 'waking up' so to speak.
1 AnswerMen's Health9 years agoCould the govt. have used some sort of cell phone positioning to locate the first plane on 9/11?
I was watching some show that gave the audio recordings of the happenings on 9/11. The first plane they could have scrambled the jets it appears, but they couldn't locate the 747(757?) b/c the transponder was shut off. My question is whether they could have located the position of the plane (better than radar) by using some sort of triangulation with one or more of the passenger's cell phones that were powered on.
1 AnswerCell Phones & Plans9 years agoWhere do the calories go?
Here's a little thought experiment. If I throw a book up a foot, and then catch the book, all the energy is clearly conserved (either by putting energy back into my arm, creating sound, increased temp, etc). However, if I just hold a book out at arms length eventually my arms will give out to muscle atrophy. In this case there are calories being spent on creating heat, and holding the book in place against gravity. My question is whether gravitational pull is an infinite energy sink against my arm muscle (thereby rendering our entire understanding of physics pointless), or if all of the calories I'm using to hold the book up are simply being converted into something like an increase in heat. But if the latter is the case and all of my calories were being used on creating heat, then how could I be applying a force against gravity?
3 AnswersPhysics10 years agoWhat really is sexual orientation?
I've heard that everyone is born with bisexual tendencies, and that one's environment and choices largely dictate which gender a person is attracted too. Yet I've also heard that being either homosexual or hetero is strictly genetic and there is no choice. Is the first statement just completely false? Please don't answer in all caps either...my ears are sensitive.
7 AnswersLesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender10 years agoCan you tell me if I am colorblind?
Every test I take I can get the answer right if I stare at it long enough, but not within a reasonable time (esp. with some of the red green ones). That is, I can look at the individual dots and immediately tell if it is red or green, it's just takes a while to trace out the number, one dot at a time. So, am I just deficient or something?
3 AnswersOptical1 decade agoCan you help with proof?
I've been stuck on this problem way too long, if you can please show the proof without using conditional proofs or reductio ad Adsurdum. If you are unfamiliar with any of the symbols, ask and I can clarify. Thanks.

2 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhat does it mean to "hit for one dollar straight"?
In the poem good times by Lucille Clifton, various good things are being described, one being that 'my uncle Brud has hit for one dollar straight'. I have no idea what this could even mean, though I know it's something positive.
1 AnswerPoetry1 decade agoDo you know any bands where the drummer uses just drums and not cymbals?
There is a band at my college where the drummer only uses the drums, and not the cymbals. It sounds pretty sick, and I can't really seem to find any groups that refrain from cymbal use.

i have a friend who got a bunch of tickets. the next time he got pulled over, he got arrested for having a suspended license. the officer said if he could come up with the 100 dollar bail, he wouldn't be taken to jail, so my friend paid and was released. i was just wondering if officers can actually do that, or did my friend get scammed by an officer?
