  • AIG Critical Illness insurance - claim denied due to pre-existing condition?

    Hi,

My husband's kidney function recently got down to 12% and now he has ESRD - End Stage Renal disease. This requires him to be on hemo-dialysis. He has Critical Illness insurance through his employer that is supposed to pay him $20,000 for a critical illness like stroke, heart attack, cancer, and organ failure. So, we filed a claim and it was almost immediately denied. The denial letter said that the reason for denial was that this was a pre-existing condition. I called them because this was obviously a mistake, because his kidneys had never failed before.

This is what I was told: The kidney failure was due to diabetes and the diabetes is a pre-existing condition because it was diagnosed in June of 2012. I read the policy and it was very confusing and not clear. I can appeal but I don't know what to do or what to say. They basically said I'd have to find a doctor that says that his kidney failure was not caused by diabetes.

We are so frustrated and so disheartened by this. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. We have pre-paid legal and they weren't very helpful. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any recourse? His employer's HR department weren't much help either. They never bothered to explain this could happen. Why not disclose this plainly before letting their employees sign up for such a plan? We've been paying high premiums thinking we were covered, but I bet ANY critical illness he has will be linked back to diabetes and not be covered. *sigh*

  • Why can people with kids go to school for free, but childfree people get the shaft?

I work full time and my husband has two jobs. We are childfree by choice. I work with someone who makes more than I do and her husband makes more than my husband. We both applied to attend to the same community college. She gets to go to school for free (tuition and books all free) but yet I get no help whatsoever. How is this fair?

It's just like all of the child tax credits. Those of us who don't have kids (that need to go to school) we have to pay all kinds of taxes, for the government just to take that money and give to those who (either by choice or by accident) happen to have kids.

At what point did those with kids get everything and those of us who don't contribute to overpopulation and pollution get the shaft?

  • My husband's toe won't heal. He's diabetic. Any suggestions?

Please see pic of my husband's toe. About three months ago he was using a Pe-dEgg on his toe to remove a callus. Well, he went to deep and created a wound. Then, a callus started to form on the wound and it turned black. Went to our regular dr...he said to go to a specialist. Went to a podiatrist and he dug down to the would, said to wear a pad around the wound so it wouldn't callus and keep neosporin on it. we did that, it callused over again. Then my husband got a massive infection through out his leg. Has a growth in the lymphnode that is hard as a rock. They said don't worry about that. I'm still worried about his toe. After almost three months his toe still looks like this. It just won't heal. Please help.

  • Husband is diabetic and doesn't care?

My husband has type 2 diabetes. He doesn't take his medicine like he should, he constantly eats fast food and doesn't get much exercise. He works 2 jobs and is always tired. It seems like he just let the diagnosis depress him to the point that he wants the disease to kill him so he doesn't have to deal with the pain and suffering this has and will cause him. He just turned 33. When I try to talk to him about he blames me or he says he just doesn't care. This has been going on and getting progressively worse for 2 1/2 years. It's gotten to the point where I don't say anything anymore, because I don't want to make him mad or start an argument. Any advise on how I can get him to help himself?
