Custom field boots cheap-ish?
I am almost 6 feet tall with a very narrow calf but I need to find field boots for smaller shows. My current boots are size 10 regular tall Ariat Heritage boots which I bought a little more than a year ago. They are several inches too short when they broke in and started out at 20" high. Does anyone know where to get custom/semicustom extra-extra tall field boots? I need as cheap as possible :( Thanks!!!
2 AnswersHorses10 years agoHow do you sell a large item long distance?
I have a horse saddle that I am trying to sell, but it is worth a significant amount of money and it is large and heavy so shipping it would cost a fortune, although I know I might have to. My question is how does payment work? If I mail it how would I know I would get my money out of it? If the buyer and I cannot meet in person, how do we exchange the item? Thanks!
2 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoWhat type of equation best models Super Bowl data?
Hey! I have to do a project where I find 3 types of equations (linear, exponential, and quadratic) for a set of data. The data is the super bowl number and the face value of a ticket (ex. first super bowl cost $12 per ticket). I used a graphing calculator to do that, but now I have to MATHAMATICLY prove which equation best models the data and why. I think it is exponantial but I'm not sure. Could I use the correlation coefficient? Or something else? Thanks!
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoEnglish full chaps? XX-Long?
Hey! I was wondering if anybody has opinions on full chaps for riding english? Are they comfortable? Do they provide extra grip? Ect... And: does anyone know where I can get REALLY long chaps? I have a 37+ inseam, plus when I'm on a horse, I'm sure I need longer. I am pretty skinny but have really long legs. I am looking not to get custom if possible (don't have too much $$), but if I have to, where is cheapest or best? Pretty much anything about full english chaps would be great.
Thanks!
2 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHorse Boarding Farm in Sewickley?
Hi,
I am moving to an area near Sewickley, PA sometime in the beginning of 2011 and I need a place to keep my horse. I am willing to travel about 45 minutes if I must. I do hunter/jumper but would like to focus more on equitation and medal classes. I need somewhere preferably under $400 per month, although I know that might not be possible. Any barn names, websites, reviews, ect would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
1 AnswerHorse Racing1 decade agoCharles Owen helmets and IRH helmets?
I am trying to buy a helmet for under $300 but don't know what to get. Every helmet I've ever had makes my head look huge!!! I tried on the CO JR8 and GR8 in a store and didn't love them (looked huge) but all the reviews I've read say they are great. Should I just get one of them and will like it after using it? If so, which one? Also the IRH ATH has gotten good reviews and fits my price range but I haven't tried it on. THe COs squeezed the sides of my head a little bit also. I am looking for a show helmet like a Charles Owen, IRH, GPA, ect...
Thanks so much for any advise you guys have!!

7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoBreaking/Training a 10 year old Mare?
Hey.... ok, so this is more of a question without a set-in-stone answer. A relative has two QH, who are 10 yrs and the other is in her early-ish 20s. Honey, the older of the two, is Sugar's mother, and is a fairly sweet and patient mare. 10 years ago, they bred Honey to a paint stallion, with palamino markings. Sugar is a rich reddish-brown, with the same colored mane, except very slightly lighter. Honey is a palamino. Their owners are to busy to really work with them, and might ok with giving them to me. They live several hundered miles away, so I haven't seen them in a few years, but I talked to their owners a few days ago. They have never been seperated, and when Honey is not with Sugar, Sugar throws a hissy fit, squealing, bucking, rearing and trying to get back to Honey. A few years ago, she actually pulled a fence post out of the ground. They were only about 100 yards apart too. Honey is getting old, an dat some point, she will not be there for Sugar, and I am thinking that Sugar is going to either become depressed and stop eating or something, or become even more unmanageable and crazy. Any thoughts on this? Am I right or are their other options? Also, Sugar has never really been trained. Her ground manners are not very good, although I think that she will lead, and she is not broken, although when she was about 5 yrs, they started working her in a round pen a bit, and she had a saddle on, and had some weight on her and stuff (western saddle) but she has never actually been ridden. Since then, she has just been hanging out with Honey in their field. I think she is between 15 and 16hh and is built pretty stocky and broad... like a true QH. I was wondering if she is still able to be broken, how much she will remember from her previous experiences, what will happen when Honey dies, and what you guys would do if you had access to them? Leave them alone, try to train Sugar, separate them, sell one or both of them (would anyone buy either of them?)? Would Sugar be good for anything besides a broodmare, and would she be ok for a broodmare? I don't know if you have enough info about this, but what kinds of babies do you think she would throw??? Over all, what is your take on this?
Sorry, I know this is really longs. Thanks!
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoIdeas for helping stables get more business?
Hey! I ride and help with the stable where I ride. I am in charge of their website and stuff, but with the economy being SO bad, they need to start making money. We have thought about horse camps, trying clinics, or open houses, but I am wondering if any of you have any ideas about ways to get money!
Thanks!
10 AnswersHorses1 decade agoRunning/going for a run with your horse?
Hey,
This is gonna sound a little weird, but does any body ever go for a run with your horse to very the exersize routine? Do you hand walk a lot? Is trotting in hand on a road bad for his legs? What are other ways to help get a horse in to better physical condition?
Thanks,
7 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHorse costume ideas?????
Hey,
I am trying to come up with a good costume idea for me and my 16.2 hand, bay Thoroughbred gelding. He is pretty solid (not over weight, he just had an enormous barrel and heart girth). He will probably tolerate anything and he has a 3 inch mohawk. I thought of like an indian, a baby, or a ballerina (put a tutu on him :) Any ideas even if they wouldn't work for my horse would be great. Thanks!
PS: i have to dress up too
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoHorse trailer weight and vehicles that can pull it?
Hey!
We are thinking about getting a car/truck that can pull a little, not fancy, no changing room and stuff, just basic 2-horse trailer. we have never had a trailer before though, so we dont know how much they weigh, what kind of car/truck could pull it with 2 aprox. 1300 lb horses. We need the cheapest vehicle possible and I need to know how much the trailer plus the horses would weigh.
Thx!

1 AnswerOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoNeed a horse.............?
Hey,
I was just wondering if there is anywhere I can find a good horse. I am pretty hard to get a horse for because I am 5'10" 9and still growing) but my legs are so long I really need a 16.3+hh horse to look ok on (I show huinter). I am trying to find a 16.3+ hunter who jumps at least up to 3'6' preferably more. I live in western PA near Pittsburgh if that helps. Any breeders, websites, farms, ANYTHING?!?!?!?
5 AnswersHorses1 decade agoBarn Choices?????????????
Hey,
I really don't know what to do, because I want to take my riding further, but the barn I am at now isn't really helping me do that. I was one if the first people at my barn and have really close friendships with everyone there. We can't afford to pay for much other than lessons and the owners at my current barn often let me ride their horses for free. I really like where I am now, but I haven't been progresing because I am the only one who needs a 16.2+hh horse who jumps 2'6''-3'. THey can't afford to keep a horse just for me when we aren't leasing or buying it because we can't afford it either.
So I am stuck riding either horses that are way too easy, don't jump, are too old, or too green adn I end up having to "train" them. I want to learn to jump higher and ride better, but I need a horse that I can work with.
There are other barns around that i could take lessons at, but I wouldn't get the frienships and financial help that I do from this barn. They have horses that I could probably work with, but I still couldn't lease them or anything. I want to start showing big time (nationals and state and stuff) but I don't have any horses I can do that with.
It has been my goal to ride nationaly and maybe even the Olymipics since I was 7, but I don't know what to do any more. If anybody knows anyother barns I would be better off at, i live in Western Pa, near pittsburgh.
Thanks for any advice!
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoRehabilitating a horse?
Ok, so in January, my riding teacher bought/'rescued' a horse for me to ride (once we rehabilitated him). He was about 500 lbs underweight, 16.1 hh, and has navicular syndrome. He hadn't had been ridden or had his teeth floated for about 9 months. We think he had had his feet done about 3 months before we brought him home. We thought he was about 18, but we just looked him up on the Russian Trakehner Registry, and found out her was born in 1993 (he is 16).
The person who rode him before damaged his back by landing VERY hard on it after jumps, and made his mouth very sore by yanking at eh bit to keep her balance.
He has only about 250 lbs to put on, and our farrier has his navicular almost under control again and I have started riding him lightly again. He is doing really well and enjoys his work. About once every 2 weeks we jump a little bit, and he loves it. He never refuses jumps or anything 9i think because I don't hurt him).
However, because he is getting really high quality food and good care, he is really energetic, and I am starting to have some trouble controlling him. When you squeeze the reins, he resists and gets defensive still. He gets hollow and evades the bit. He is also defensive about his back, so he still sometimes gets hollow. We use pads and risers on his back, and he is getting better and better, but I am wondering if there is anything else (stretches, exersizes, ect) that would help him be more comfortable or strong.
thanks!
PS: I have ordered Dr Cook's bitless bridle to avoid the bit and see if that helps at all.
PPS: I have pretty soft hands.
6 AnswersHorses1 decade agoDr Cook's Bitless Bridle...?
I an thinking about buying one for my 17 yr old Russian Trakhner who is really nice, but when you pull at all on the reins, he gets hollow and defensive... any ideas or tips. I would buy the nylon one it think (a little low on cash LOL)
