  • Physics (inclined plane prob): A 70.0 N box sits on a ramp that is inclined at an angle (theta) = 25 degrees..?

    A 70.0 N box sits on a ramp that is inclined at an angle (theta) = 25 degrees with the horizontal. Use a free body diagram to solve each part.

    *Free Body Diagram: I have an inclined plane with a box. normal force (Fn), Fpull pointing uphill incline from box, mg pointing down (center of gravity). For Part C (friction is pointing downhill 'incline) For components, mgcos(theta) continues down from Fn.

    I'm not sure what direction mgsin(theta) should point---> up incline like Fpull or downhill..? I took it going downhill when working it out. But please correct me if wrong :)

    A: Assume there is no friction, and the box is moving at a constant velocity of 5.00 m/s up the incline. What are the forces acting on the box? How large must the applied force [Fpull] be?

    B: Again, assume there is no friction, and the magnitude of the applied force Fpull is 45.0 N. What is the acceleration of the box?

    C: Now, consider the more realistic case, friction is present, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the box and the incline is uk = 0.20, and Fpull is still 45.0 N.

    1) Draw the friction force.

    2) Calculate the value of the friction force on the mass.

    3) Revise the equation(s) necessary to determine the modified acceleration of the box. Calculate the new acceleration.

    * This is what I did so far:

    E(sum of)Fx = 0 = ma = Fpull- mgsin(theta)

    *Do the masses cancel to give: a = Fpull - gsin(theta) --> Fpull = a -gsin(theta)

    OR

    is Fpull = mgsin(theta) - ma

    EFy = ma = Fn - mgcos(theta) ---> Fn = mgcos(theta)

    The problem does not give a value for mass, but I figured EF = ma so rearranged it m = F/a. This gives me 70 N/5m per sec^2 = 14 kg.

    I got Fpull = 128N (Not sure if that's right..)

    For Part B, I got a = 3.2 m/s^2 (again, not sure if correct)

    a = Fpull - mgsin(theta)/ m (I cancelled the masses or else I would have a negative acceleration) *I think lol

    C: ?

    So as you can see...I am confused and would appreciate your help. :) Thanks for your time

  • Organic Chemistry- Dehydration...Help!?

    I have to answe this question for lab:

    When 1,2-cyclohexanediol is dehydrated in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid, the major product is not an alkene. Instead, you get cyclohexanone as the major product. (A diagram was shown here but idk how to add that).

    Write a reasonable and detailed mechanism for the dehydration of 1,2-cyclohexanediol to form cyclohexanone. Use curved arrows to show the flow of electrons and draw the structures of all intermediates and byproducts formed in the course of this reaction as well as any alternative resonance structures that will help you to account for the formation of the major product observed in this reaction.

    Any type of help would be appreciated! IDK how to add images on here... :) Thanks

  • How do you prepare for an exam?

    Honestly...I have poor study habits. I always end up cramming and sometimes go blank! How soon and what can I do to better prepare for exams? What do you do? My friend suggested I might have ADD bc its hard for me to focus. I consider myself to be a bright person but my GPA doesn't reflect that. I know this NEEDS to change. btw, I'm a pre-med student. :-/ lol I'm done with general requirements so now its all science from here...right now, taking (lecture, recitation, lab) in organic chemistry and physics 1 (algebra based)

    Your input is appreciated!

  • Physics: A 1200 kg purple pickup truck tows a small 300 kg trailer using a relatively lightweight tow rope..?

    An 1200 kg purple pickup truck tows a small 300 kg trailer using a relatively lightweight tow rope. The position of the trailer is given in m and time is in s. (An animation of this shows the truck pulling the trailer with a rope starting at 0 seconds to 16 seconds. It is moving horizontally from the -x axis to +x axis. I don't know why but it says y=+1)

    a) What is the magnitude of the net force on the entire system (truck and trailer)? __ N

    b) What is magnitude of the net force on the trailer? __ N

    c) What is the magnitude of the net force on the truck? __ N

    Help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Researchers now claim the G-spot does NOT exist...what do you think?

    I've read in my psychology book that there IS a G-spot (and other spots too!). Do you think it varies and maybe not all women have these sensitive zones?
