i'm a new yorker since before birth lol, but the stress of living practically on top of everyone else is driving me nuts and i have to move, i'm very easy going and love the outdoors but cannot stand large crowds (hence the move), unfortunately money is a big issue, any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • can i take my stepfather to court to pay for the broken nose he gave me?

When i was about 9 or 10yrs old my stepfather was physically abusive and broke my nose the police were involved so there's plenty of documentation out there to attest to this. My problem is that i'm now 28 and the broken nose is causing a lot of problems with my breathing and because of this my throat is always hurting me, i have a very noticeable and painful bump where the break is, and obviously because of the continuous abuse that lasted for years i've been in therapy since i was 11 yrs old. The cost of getting this repaired will be between $12,000-$16,000 would i win if i take him to court? the reason that i didn't think of this sooner (these issues have been plaguing me for years now) is because i was terrified of him hurting me or my family, now that i'm older, moved out and am in therapy regularly, i'm still afraid (it's a residual thing from the abuse inflicted on me for over 20 yrs) but am not willing to let him terrify me anymore. Do i have a case is there anything that i can do to make him pay for his actions which have caused me so much damage, both physically and emotionally? please only serious answers as this is a very sensitive issue for me.

  • looking for a culturally diverse, gay ok, semi rural area to live and work?

I'm a native new yorker looking for a change of pace (almost a crawl.) I would love to find one of those quaint little towns where the air is clean and where stepping into a body of water won't make you sprout an extra limb (ever been to coney island beach? you practically have to take penicillin before getting near the shore lol) like I stated I'm from new york city and diversity is all you'll find here, they don't call it the 'melding pot' for nothing, so I want a place where there's open space and your next neighbor is within 10 minutes away driving time, but where diversity is accepted, not grudgingly either. Different nationalities, different sexual orientation is not an issue, basically where a person can be themselves without fearing getting hurt because of their differences. I'm very open-minded and would like to be surrounded by people who are like-minded in this respect. We've all heard stories of tiny towns commiting big time crimes that make you ask yourself in which era are we living in? Having a big city within decent driving distance is necessary as well since that's where the jobs are. I need some space (actually a little solitude) some fresh air, clean water nearby, where acceptance of differences comes naturally and people are friendly like they show on television (people waving at strangers, not here in the bronx) I know it's probably too specific but if I plan to uproot myself I want to make sure I don't go from one bad situation to a worse one. I accept people as is, and I expect the same courtesy in return. If you or anyone you know has first hand experience of what I'm looking for please let me know, I almost forgot to mention that the home has to be affordable, I'd like to rent a 3 br 2 bath home with the option to buy. I've seen some price right location right homes with these attributes for around $750.00 per month online but they only accept tiny pets, I love animals and will not leave my pets behind (great dane; they look like small ponies, pretty large breed and need plenty of space to run around comfortably.) any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Fondant gone horribly wrong?

i tried making fondant for the first time (the Colette Peters recipe from foodnetwork) and since i don't can't eat gelatin, used agar powder as i understand that it's a good plant based substitute for gelatin. It went sooo wrong! as i rolled it out, it stuck to the work surface and would tear, no matter what i did, i couldn't get it right. I heard that shortening greased surface works well, so i tried that, it didn't help, it stuck even more than the cornstarch i tried. Since it was my first time attempting fondant, i am assuming that both the recipe (agar powder sub.) and my technique (or lack thereof) are the reasons behind the botched fondant, needless to say, i had to abandon the attempt and stick with the buttercream frosting. I want, no need to try again, any tried and true recipes without gelatin and techniques to make my next attempt more likely to be a success? please help, the fact that it went so wrong is really freaking me out, since i've been wanting (and envisioning) myself creating beautiful fondant covered artsy cakes, i know it takes time and practice to get it it right, but, i would like to have something to work with now, something simple enough that a newbie can practice at, and actually be able to successfully place on a cake! i would really appreciate any and all help given.

  • Can anyone tell me where to find the perfect gumpaste kit?

I'm a baking student and would like to try my hand at making gumpaste, fondant flowers and figurines. I love the things that Colette Peters comes up with and i know that it takes years to be that good, but even she had to start somewhere, i'd like to start with the "perfect" gumpaste kit, one that has absolutely everything i may need (or want) to make anything from simple, to elaborate designs. I haven't the slightest idea where to start. Can anyone tell me everything i need to have in this kit? or where i can get one that is already complete, i see some with about 4 or 5 pcs. but then i see all these fancy flowers and crimping things and feel like the 'kits' i've seen aren't really complete for the things that i want to try. Any suggestions? I would love the kit that's already assembled, but if not can anyone tell me a list of what's needed? I need help badly, have pity on me,lol. Anybody?

  • how do you go about finding the "top dog" in a not for profit agency? ?

I am a client at a not for profit agency that offers supportive housing, where if anyone is familiar with, means that you pay your bills from your disability checks. There are counselors who may visit you or you visit the agency. Up until recently changes were being made that myself and other clients felt were great, now there are other changes being made, all others were rescinded. If the purpose of supportive/independent living is to live independently and function on the same level and under the same basic rules as everyone else, then, why the steps backward? The back and forth nature of this agency is starting to get on my nerves. I would like to know who are the sponsors, who is the one who makes the rules and hands them down to those beneath him/her. This actually started as such a silly thing, i want to paint the apartment i have lived in for about 2-3 yrs. i want it to not have that wonderful 'institutionalized' look anymore. my issue is, after any tenant leaves, the apartment gets repainted anyway, why would i have trouble painting the place the colors that i like, after all, i may be in an independent living agency, but they do not help with my bills, shouldn't i be able to paint, if the landlord says it's fine and i buy the paint? what would you do? I don't want anything crazy looking, some soft tones, like peach, tan, peagreen in my room, not anything crazy, like i said. The name of the agency is Heritage health and housing, they do help a lot of people (albeit with attitude if you come across some of the what we consumers and some staff as well, call b**ches) i don't mind much, i'm pretty low key, but this painting thing is really annoying me. what to do? p.s. i plan on doing it any way. how do i find out who is higher up the ladder and may be receptive to lending an ear? thanks.

  • baking/pastry donations please?

I have just started taking baking classes and am feeling really bad because while i'm not doing horribly, i know that if i had the proper tools at home, i would be so much better. I'd have the ability to practice, i try not to show it, but i do feel a little inferior because of this. I really love baking/pastry, and want to be great at it, unfortunately i can't afford the tools, supplies needed to practice at home. If there is anyone with the ability to donate anything you feel i can use, anything from equipment to ingredients, just anything. i really want to do well and not being able to follow through with a dream of mine would really hurt. please if there's anyone who can help, it'd be so appreciated.

  • Triangle piercing stretched ?

I got a triangle done about 2-3 months ago and i recently noticed that it stretched and has a tiny tear, i removed the cbr and want to know if and when i decide to put a ring back in what kind should it be. The cbr was a 10g, so i guess the question is (are) how long should i wait before putting a ring in if it's still open or getting it repierced if it's closed and what type of ring would be best to avoid the "smushing" of the ring that made it look lopsided and stretch/tear? Thanks in advance for the advice guys and gals :)

  • Does anyone know of any medications to treat hand tremors brought on by psych meds?

I was diagnosed with a mental illness years ago, but really started taking it seriously about 4yrs ago. I've tried so many different meds that I've lost count, finally things are starting to get better, I don't hate myself anymore (yay!!!) the issue I'm having has to do with hand tremors, I'm about to start pastry school and I need my hands to be steady. Does anyone have a suggestion of meds that I should ask my doctor about, my next appointment is on 8/13/08.

  • Can I get life insurance on a family member without their consent?

I'm interested in getting a life insurance policy on my mother because unfortunately she will not be around forever and I want to make sure my sister and I are able to take care of financial obligations that would have to be resolved including funeral expenses. Obviously this is a very difficult situation, no one wants to have to plan for a loved one's passing. Anyone know if this is possible? thanks.
