Is an American Girl doll worth the money for a 4yo?
My daughter has seen the catalogs and is just dying for one, but I don’t know how well she’d be able to take care of their hair, change the clothes easily, keep the doll in good shape, etc. They’re so expensive I don’t want to buy one unless I’m sure she won’t destroy it the first time she plays with it like a four-year-old, since they’re for older girls. She does have a few of the cheaper dolls from Target and such, but they’re such poor quality the hair turned into a rat’s nest the first time she brushed it, even with my help, and one of them lost an arm (we were able to fix it easily but still, the trauma!). She has a ‘bitty baby’ and takes great care of it, but she really wants one of the 18” dolls. Is it a good choice for a kid that age?

13 AnswersBaby Names9 years agoGood present for my daughter "from the baby?"?
My daughter is 4 and really excited that she's going to get a little sister in a few months. She wanted to buy the baby a Christmas present so I took her out shopping and she picked out a soft little pink bunny. She helped me wrap it and on Christmas morning we're going to unwrap it together and she can hold it against my stomach for baby to feel, and then I promised that once the baby is born that's the first stuffed animal we will give her. She's very excited about the whole thing. Hubby and I were thinking that it would be sweet if the baby gave her big sister a Christmas present in return, something small like the pink bunny. But we have no idea what it would be! Any ideas? And how could we explain exactly how the baby got the present to her from inside mommy's belly? Thanks in advance!

7 AnswersBaby Names9 years agoDo you think cousins' names need to go together?
So I was talking with my daughter's friend's mom earlier and we were discussing baby names my husband and I had been thinking about for our baby girl. I mentioned that I liked one but didn't think it flowed well with Gemma, my daughter's name. She said to make sure it sounded good with the cousins' names too so she'd fit in with the family. I thought that was really weird, I've never heard anyone say before that cousins' names needed to go together. I mean maybe you don't want them all to have the SAME name, but it seems to me the cousins' names shouldn't effect your decision that much...she asked what the baby's cousins' names are and I told her: Mason, Kiley, Joel, Tanner, Isaac, Jacob, and Emily from one side and Brynleigh, Lauren, Piper, and Elliot/EJ from the other. Then she started going off about how none of them sound good together and the parents didn't think it through - Brynleigh is too unique, Jacob and Emily are too common, none of them "flow", stuff like that. I don't get that...they sound fine to me and even if they didn't, I don't know why it would matter. They're just cousins, they're not siblings. Only on rare occasions will their names be listed all together, so why does it matter if they "flow"? The idea is ridiculous to me (not to mention that she didn't have much of a right to criticize my family's naming choices, but whatever).
So it made me wonder. Is it common practice to make sure a baby's name fits in with their cousins' names? Or is that lady just weird? Is there something wrong with my family's names that we've all been missing?

We're trying to pick a name for baby girl #2! These are a few we really like: Taryn, Teagan, Harper, Michaela, Taylor, Ashtyn, Leah, Payton, and Addison. Which ones do you like best? Which ones don't you like? Any middle name suggestions maybe? We're trying to narrow the list down so we'd appreciate any feedback. Last name is Conn and big sister is Gemma Faith. Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! :)
10 AnswersBaby Names9 years agoIs 4 1/2 years old too young for Harry Potter?
My husband wants to start reading the books to my daughter and letting her watch the movies, (probably only the first two or three until she gets a little older). I'm all for starting her on them early because I love them myself, but I'm worried four might be a little too early. She is very smart and observant for her age so I don't really think they'd confuse her, but I am worried they might be too dark. She's a pretty fearless kid and she's very into magic and fantasy stories, but I'm just not sure that it wouldn't scare her.
WDYT? Remember we're only talking about the first two, maybe three books and movies here.
11 AnswersToddler & Preschooler9 years agoPlanning a Disney World surprise...does this sound like it will go well?
My daughter is four and will be getting a big surprise this Christmas - her first trip to Disney World.
My husband and I have been working on it for a while and this is our plan:
We'll have everything secretly packed and ready to go by Christmas Eve. On Christmas morning, after my daughter has opened all her presents, we'll bring out one last surprise gift. This will be a HUGE box wrapped in Disney Paper that just has a lid she needs to lift off. We're going to put some Disney balloons inside the box so when she takes off the lid, the balloons shoot out. Inside the box, under the balloons, will be several smaller presents for her to open; the first will have a Princess Ariel doll she's been wanting; the second one will have Disney princess pajamas, a shirt, and two dress-up costumes; the third will have a Disney Princess backpack that's filled with different Disney activity books and stuff to keep her busy on the plane; and the last box will have a Disney autograph book, a Minnie Mouse plush, and personalized mouse ears. By then she should be getting the point and we'll announce that we're getting on a plane in a few hours and heading to Disney World!
As you can see, we overdid it a bit lol, we're very excited. Do you think that will go well, or would the fact that there's so much stuff overwhelm her? Will the little presents give it away too soon? She LOVES Disney and we really want this to be a great experience for her! Thanks in advance!
7 AnswersToddler & Preschooler9 years agoShould my daughter wear her princess dresses to Disney World?
I've heard that a lot of other little girls do it, but I'm worried she might be uncomfortable and it would be a pain to carry them around the entire time and to take time for her to change and everything. We're going on Christmas so it probably won't be as bad as it would be in the summer, but it's Florida so it's probably still warm. Also, she's four and she owns pretty much every princess costume available, and will probably want to bring them all. If I do let her bring a dress, should it be only one, or maybe a few different ones?
