  • Dogs not getting along ?

We have a 5 year old shih tzu and have recently bought a English mastiff puppy. We have had him for about 6 weeks and we of course expected our shih tzu to not like him because she's always been spoiled and the only dog but she hates him with a passion and it seems to be getting worse. All she does is snap at him and bite at him and just attack him for no reason.. I realize that sometimes he annoys her since he's a puppy but half the time when she flips out on him he is simply walking by not paying her any attention and 5 feet away... Is there anything we can do to help her get used to him or at least get along w him... We get onto him when he is annoying to her and it's ok for her to correct him in her own way then but not when she just attacks him for no reason. I know that she feels he's invading her space so I really don't need a lecture on all of that but any suggestions to help them get along would be appreciated

  • Strange dog behavior ?

We have a 5 year old shih tzu who does something strange once in a while... Sometimes when we put her in her crate and leave we come back home to find her drenched ( to the point of looking like she's just had a bath) in saliva or pee (we aren't sure which) it doesn't smell like urine but there's so much of it to the point that she is soaked to make us think that she can't had salivated that much? I don't think it's a crate problem because she does fine 99% of the time but this happens every once in a while... Today I was gone only an hour and a half and I came home to find her like this... I notice she does this sometimes when I leave in a hurry or when she doesn't realize I'm leaving (haven't gone through my whole getting ready routine)... She has alpha issues so I wonder if that plays into the problem? Any insight would be appreciated but please no preaching on the crating issue.. We have to crate her because otherwise she tears our house apart... And I don't mean just things left on the floor.. She chews door trim and cabinet doors if left out alone

  • Dog whining constantly!!?

We have just gotten a puppy. I am reporting this question because the last answers were absolutely no help. He has gotten to where he will cry and scream non stop in his crate at night. He doesn't have to potty or isn't hungry because I have just taken him out and fed him recently. He has toys in there and our other dog is beside him in her crate. I understand that they are going to whine and cry but it's getting a bit ridiculous. He does this very loudly for hours on end. He's not in pain or panicking because he is laying there calmly but screaming out and crying and howling non stop. I know I am supposed to leave him in there and not pay attention to it because that would reward the bad behavior. I have followed all of the crate training/ puppy advice that I can find. I have thought about getting a shock collar as a last resort. When I say shock collar I mean the one that has very low vibration( not an actual shock!!) I don't want to hear people with their inhumane comments. It's a small vibration that just scares them not a shock.... Professional opinions only please! I can handle having a puppy but this cryin for hours on end is getting ridiculous and I am sleep deprived at this point. When he wakes me up screaming I can never go back to sleep. He has separation anxiety obviously and putting our other dog in there helps. Ive followed all advice on the separation anxiety issue I've found too. Any new suggestions would be appreciated and like I said the shock collar would be a last resort if this just doesn't stop at all. He can sometimes lay down and be calm and other times he just screams non stop... Don't want to be condemned and told how the shock cost is inhumane so unless you have new ideas or suggestions don't bother to comment.

  • New puppy screaming nonstop!!!?

We just got a New puppy.. He is a 7 week old mastiff puppy. My problem is that he will not stop screaming and whining and howling in his crate. I know people day that you are just supposed to let him keep doing it and not go in there to make him stop which I have been doing. The problem is that he is so loud and screams for hours on end with no stopping!!! He does not have to use the bathroom and has already ate. I have taken him out just before this. He doesn't even seem scared in his crate he just lays there and howls and screams and cries non stop for literally hours!!! I can't sleep at all and get woken up by this many times a night and most of the time I have trouble falling back asleep so this problem has to stop ASAP!!I am extremely sleep deprived at this point and am so frustrated. I know he is just a puppy but I am considering a shock collar to see If it will help the problem..need a better solution fast!!

  • Why does my mail carrier not close my mailbox?

Since we have moved into our new house about 3 months ago we have had a problem with our mail carrier. It seems almost every day that we receive mail they leave the door to our mailbox open. It's frustrating especially on days when it's pouring down rain and our mail is soaking wet. Not to mention our mail could fall out or blow out of the box leaving it to fall into the wrong persons hands.. I don't know whether to tape a note onto the mailbox asking her nicely to please make sure it is closed or complain to the local mail office. I know this is kind of a trivial concern but it's very frustrating to us.

  • Why does my dog drink so much? ?

We have a shih tzu Who is 10 lbs. She is almost 5 years old and has always drank a lot of water and I can't figure out why? This is not a new thing but she has been like this since she was a puppy... No lab tests from the vet have ever been abnormal... She just drinks so much... For minutes straight without coming up for air and she's always drinking water... Idk how a dog so small can hold so much water?

  • Help with an attention starved dog? ?

Our dog is completely attention starved! My boyfriend and I have been together 2 years.. He's had this dog since she was a puppy and she's now almost 5. She's completely attention starved and wants every single bit of attention and even if we are sitting together on the couch she whines and whines because she wants all the attention. At night she sleeps in our room but will wake up wanting attention 2 or 3 times a night, Which consists of barking whining and throwing herself at the Bed an door until someone gets up... I can't be woken up multiple times a night because I usually can't fall back asleep like my boyfriend can.. It's almost like she is obsessed with him, if we even walk into another room and she can't get in she barks and whines until she gets her way. She constantly follows him around... She gets plenty of attention and we play with her a good bit... But she wants us to consantly pay attention to her.. It's unhealthy at this point and starting to border on aggression... When we leave we leave her in the bedroom and she has attacked me several times when I go to shut the door because she's so mad were leaving... She is not allowed on the bed or furniture.. The thing I'm most worried about is if we have a baby I know shes going to be aggressive and possibly hurt the baby because we will be giving our attention to it and not her... She is a small dog but still could hurt someone... She tears things up now when we leave like bathroom cabinet doors and bed legs( not things we leave in the floor). She had plenty of toys and things to play with when we are gone but she gets so mad she tears things in our brand new house up!!! Im at my wits end and don't know what to do... She is at the point where she is getting aggressive when we leave and gets angry if my boyfriend gives me attention... Whining barking throwing herself at the couch etc... Which seems like it could escalate into physical aggression... Sick and tired of his "attention starved" dog!
