  • What to Consider When Rating an Album?

I'm going to put together a list of albums i listen to and their rating (out of 100) and review for a kind of album review database. I've got some criteria for how to figure out a rating such as average rating for each song, the general feel of the album and it's cohesiveness. I think i need some more criteria for rating albums. Do you have any suggestions of what else to consider?

  • Do You think Radiohead are Overrated?

I decided to listen to Kid A all the way through today since I've never given them much of a chance before and I listen to similar artists supposedly. I've only ever liked a few Radiohead tracks and find the rest kind of dull and boring. I found Kid A sort of interesting and kinda different from their other stuff but there was only about 3 or 4 songs i thought were pretty decent (Everything In Its Right Place, National Anthem, Idioteque) but the rest of the album was just boring and dull to me. I don't understand why the album was called the best of the 2000's.

Do I just need to keep listening to their albums or are they just really overrated?

  • Does musical preference say anything about your personality?

I've read all these articles saying that fans of particular genres have specific personalities, which seem pretty inaccurate, but i listen to music from pretty much every major genre except for country, blues and opera, this just means that all my personality traits are supposed to contradict each other which is kinda confusing.

  • Why do some people say that lyrics are as important as the music?

I always hear people saying how important they think lyrics are towards the music that they listen to but i don't see how you can listen to something solely for the lyrics regardless of the musical content. When i listen to music, i put all my focus into the melody, rhythm and atmosphere of the song, and only regard good lyrics as a bonus to a great song. I realize that lyrics are really important to some styles of music but I can't see how someone can see it as a priority, because if the music itself isn't good, the song is unbearable to listen to. I always thought that music was all about the feeling it gives you and the atmosphere with the lyrics kind of adding to it, but not necessary as instrumental music can also evoke strong emotions and inspire imagination.

There are so many people who say that they won't listen to music without decent lyrics, it seems to me like they're missing the whole point of music.

  • I feel like I don't know myself?

I feel as if I change my personality and act differently around different types of people. Obviously I would act differently around friends from how I'd act around family etc... And I always seem to adjust the way in which I act in order to relate to people and to get them to like me. I think everyone kind of does this to some extent but I think I've lost grip of who I really am and I can't differentiate between my altered personality and my genuine self. I don't know what exactly to do when people say "just be yourself" when I'm going to talk to a girl I like or something because I don't really know who "myself" is when interacting with others. I just can't figure out whats going on so can you tell me what you think my issue is and what it is a result of?

    I'm 16 by the way

  • Are smart people more likely to be depressed?

From my personal experiences, it seems that a high amount of highly intelligent people have are depressed in some way. The three smartest of my friends have all admitted to being depressed, whereas the people i know who are not so intelligent seem to be constantly happy, without a care in the world. I keep thinking that as people become more intelligent, they open their eyes in a way to how things really are and have more understanding of how the world works and maybe this brings them down as there are many injustices and negative ways to look at society but unintelligent people are happy more frequently because they aren't constantly analyzing and questioning everything and kinda just go with it. I also thought that maybe smarter people believe that others won't understand them or be able to relate with them.

I just want to know if you think that this is true because from my experiences, it seems that way.

  • Why are people so obsessed with celebrities?

It just doesn't make much sense to me, there are so many people that always have to follow everything that certain celebrities do and need to know every little detail about their lives, who they're dating and what they're doing at all times. It just seems so pathetic.

Is it because they aren't happy enough with their own lives that they become obsessed with people who live the "ideal" lifestyle who are extremely rich and are on tv all the time?

  • Recommend Some Bands/Artists?

It doesn't really matter what genre. I listen to almost everything, Metal, rock, indie, electronic, experimental, hip hop etc...

At the moment I'm into Animal Collective, The Drums and a whole lot of indie bands. Any good experimental/avant garde bands would be good as well.

It doesn't really matter, i'm just looking for new bands/artists to get into.

  • How do I stop worrying about this?

I'm almost 16 and I have social anxiety and a bit of depression. I'm going to a school's semi formal in a couple of weeks with a girl I don't really like. I can't stop worrying about it because of all the stressful situations I'll be put in. There's gonna be a pre party then a post party afterwards so all up it's gonna be about 9 hours. Because of my social anxiety I'm terrified of being in a 9 hour social situation with a lot of people I don't know and having to be really social the entire night. I'm used to social situations that are a couple of hours and I usually act fine but this is just ridiculous. It's basically all I can think about at the moment and my depression is really starting to play up again because I keep thinking that I'm gonna make an idiot out of myself. I have no idea how I can just make it stop and just be excited about it.

  • Should I tell her I'm depressed?

Hello everyone, I'm turning 16 and I've had on and off depression for about a year now. The only person I've told is one friend and he didnt seem to understand and I just can't bring myself to tell my family so thats out of the question. Basically there's a girl that I like and I'm considering telling her about my depression. We don't talk that often which is annoying but she said to me that shes always there to talk after I told her that I was feeling kinda sad a few weeks ago. I can't seem to take it much anymore and it seems like she's the only one who cares so I'm considering sending her a message on Facebook explaining my situation. I've already written the paragraph like 5 minutes ago and I've been on the verge of sending it. What should I do?

  • What am I doing wrong?

    Hello everyone :)

So basically there's this girl I like but it seems that nothing I can do can get her to like me.

I'm always nice when I talk to her and she laughs at jokes and everything, and we talk about a lot of different things so it seems to go well when we talk. It's just annoying because she's only started one of the 6 or 7 Facebook conversations (We've actually met about 3 times though) and most of my time on Facebook is spent just sitting there waiting for her to talk to meand sometimes I just get so annoyed that I start a conversation because I just need to talk to her and she always seems happy to talk to me.

What do you think I should do now, because I really don't want to give up :/

Oh yeah and I'm 15 years old by the way

  • What is the scariest music video you know of?

The scariest I've ever seen is the video for "Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin, scared the sh*t outta me the first time I saw it.

  • Does anyone know of the band Jellyfish?

Has anyone heard of, or heard anything from this band? I heard about them while looking through XTC videos and I thought they were brilliant, but it seems like no-one really knew of them and they don't have that many views on youtube or anything. Why the hell are they so unknown? Surely one of the most underrated bands of the 90's.

  • Was mainstream music as bad in the 90's?

I know that both decades have really good music but I was wondering if the 90's had the same trend of playing non stop commercialised crap on the radio all day. I really like a lot of music from the 90's but I just want to know if this trend is only a recent thing or if it's always been this way. I was born in 96 so I had no idea what it was like back then. I'm not asking what period had better music just if it had the same pattern as today's music industry. It doesn't seem to me like it was as bad in the 90's because i find it easier to find talented musicians from back then.
