I am dreading my future life?
In todays society there's the norm of living the so called a4-life... you know, go to college, get a job, get a house, get married, have kids and then you die... that seems so horribly boring. I don't know why but I feel like if I live this way I will never be happy or find happiness at all, but then again I have been living this way for 20 years. And what is the alternative? Go nomad? Nope, can't do that either because you need a job to make money to survive.
How do you break out of this routine? Or at least make it livable? All I do now is going to work, come home, make dinner and play some video games before I go to bed and repeats the same thing the next day. I don't want to wake up when I'm 50 years old realizing that I wasted my life playing video games. Can someone help me?
1 AnswerPsychology6 years agoHow can I learn to appreciate what I have and choose the right education?
I have some wired thoughts. I start thinking about other countries like India where over 300 million people live in poverty because of overpopulation and lack of resources to get out of it... that could easily be me; born and doomed to poverty. Then I start beating myself up just for living in a country like Norway where minimum wage is about 35000 dollars a year if you work full time.
Then I start thinking about what I have and I know I should be grateful, but I feel something is missing in my life... a purpose. Life is eventually just about survival, but for some reason I feel like that isn't enough because I've never had to work for it. Yet again I don't know what I strive to achieve because I don't have many goals, I just want to be happy but for some reason I'm not.
Then I start thinking about education. The only goal I have is to travel and see the world. Thing is you can apparently only get a job if you attend college, and jobs that are in high demand are only engineering, teaching, or health. I don't want to do any of that, but if I don't choose one of those fields, chances are it's way harder to get a job.
I'm trying to convince myself that it's enough for me to become a carpenter or a farmer (my family owns a farm, and carpenters make good money), but society and friends constantly tells me that's not enough. You're not worth anything without college apparently and this bugs me... anyone on yahoo have some advice for me?
1 AnswerOther - Society & Culture6 years agoWhich options am I left with educational-wise?
So, I'm about to apply for colleges , but there's nothing that i want to study that's actually wanted in the job market. It seems like you can only get a job if you study IT, Engineering, Health or if you study to become a teacher. I like things like music, language and history... but if i choose a course with history and take a PPU degree after (which means i can teach at a school) i still won't be of much consideration because of people that can teach multiple subjects. I'm actually starting to think I'm not suited for college at all...
You know what? All i want to do is live a happy life with a bit of money so i can travel, but to travel you need a job so you can earn money... this is like an evil circle and I don't know which options I'm left with educational-wise... can someone help me?
3 AnswersHigher Education (University +)6 years agoWorking for 3 years or go study?
Hi! I graduated High School almost a year ago, started at a university and dropped out because the programme wasn't right for me. I'm now 20 years old...
Ever since I dropped out I looked for work, something to do mainly. Then this opportunity got to me; I am now in a 3 year trainee programme where I work at a company and then take some sort of test. After that test I get some sort of licence which says I am qualified for a job. In my country (norway) this is concidered an education, and in my case I can work with anything that has something to do with sales. Right now I am working as a lumber-salesman.
The thing is, I have a 3 year contract of working at the same company in order to get this qualification licence. I'm already now, after my first month, second guessing this whole thing because it's a 3 year commitment. I'm basically stuck at this company for 3 years with 40% of the salary an ordinary salesman get (because of educational reasons the salary during your trainee programme is this low).
The thing is, I could still abort this and study something i really want. since before high school i've been postponing my real interest, and I think; I get lots of time to study later... but i'm tired of not doing what I want.. I don't know if I will be happy with this programme.. I want to hear your opinion on this please!
1 AnswerOther - Education7 years agowhat should I do with my life?
what should I do with my life? I am dropping out of the university because I found out it's not for me. Now I am going to work until next year when I can apply for schools again, and try something new. I have no clue what I want to work with and it's very frustrating, but it's also frustrating to know that even when I find something I want to work with and finish school and get a job, it will be same **** over and over again! You go to work, save money for a vacation or sometihing want. and after you go on vacation you go back to work until same time next year... it just seems so freaking pointless! I don't know to enjoy that and it scares me! Also it's demotivating to think that way when I apply for schools...
Anyone feel the same way and have some tips?
3 AnswersPsychology8 years agoChoosing a career is so frustrating and I don't know what to do?
Hey! I recently finished what I guess you could call college (year 10-13) and I started studying English Language at a university this fall. Now it's clear to me that this isn't for me. I can't cope with what is being taught here at the uni, and I'm actually pretty tired of school.
So recently I've been thinking about choosing a career where you work with something practical, like an electrician or carpentry, but I don't know if I will regret it or not in like 5-10 years, cause I feel I am like half practical and half theoretic.
These professions require two college-level years of theory (combined with practical work) and then two paid years where I'm placed in an enterprise learning and working with and for them. This will cause me no loans for studying and I am able to get a job quicker than with an university degree.
So yeah with these options I am at a bit of a headache here. Should I go for a paid-to-study line of work which is practical and be out working in three years (my counselor said I could do it in three years, cause I've passed college-level school once already), or should I study something like Media (which I am a little interested in) at a university which means getting a loan for a five year master-degree, but higher salary in the end? This is my question, and I wonder if any of you have some tips regarding this?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoFollow my dream or choose a "safe" way?
I am finishing school this summer and I'm about to apply for universities (I'm 19 yrs old). I have studied Media and Communication for the last 3 years but it's not quite what I want to work with.
I have a burning passion for music, and I am thinking of becoming a music producer or a sound engineer in a studio or rigging live concerts. Thing is, it's not easy to get a job in this subject, especially with decent salary. It's not "safe" when it comes to economy and a guarantee of a job.
The only thing I could imagine studying other than music is English Language in the UK, since it's the only thing I actually have liked in school so far. This will also give a more "safe" guarantee of getting a job since I can be a teacher. If I choose this, my goal will still be to work with music, but as a hobby then.
So basically this choice I'll have to make (I've applied for both studies) is driving me crazy. This choce will probably affect the rest of my life. I'm currently thinking: "Do I dare follow this unsure dream or should I go the safe way?". I know this choice have to be mine, but what do you think?
2 AnswersOther - Education8 years agoSo with djent now gone, what's next?
I've read so much about Meshuggah inspired this djent scene, and plenty of bands threw themselves in started playing djent, making also that genre dead-end... so wtf is next? If djent is as dead as the other sub genres we have today (thrash especially) what are people supposedly listening now then?
4 AnswersRock and Pop8 years agoThrow me some new metal music!?
Okay ... I feel metal have kind of stopped with these sub genres as metalcore, deathcore and djent. All you find these days are bands that are trapped within generic guidelines with no intention of even trying to be original (especially thrash), but you guys probably know of bands that are more different than the generic ones, maybe bands that are trying out something new? Come on throw them at me!
10 AnswersRock and Pop8 years agoMetal music today lack new bands doing new things?
So, I went to this local show where there was a jury voting which band to send to the next show, and there were really just one band I liked. They said their influences was Mastodon and Gojira and when they started playing, I found out they sounded too much alike Gojira.
Why are all these new bands today just playing the same stuff? It doesn't seem like they're even trying to differ from all the other bands out there.
I have found out that if a band is doing something new and original, they get fairly known after a while... but bands today don't even try to do something new, at least none that I've hea rd of, and this frustrates me more than anything!
So, I would like to know some new and upcoming, original bands and subgenres of metal please. Thanks in advance!
7 AnswersRock and Pop8 years agoStudy Music Technology or English Language?
Hey!
I'm at the end of my 3rd year, turning 19 this March, and I just can't decide what to do afterwards. So far I'm considering two studies that lies within my interests.
1. Music Technology. Though I haven't worked with or learned about any programs relevant to music technology, I find it interesting and useful for me as a musician. I do not feel this is a job that is very ... important, and I don't think there's many jobs available since a studio doesn't need that many people working with this. I think it's very risky to go for since income is very unstable. It is, however, something I believe will be a very fun and interesting job, since it involves music. I love all kinds of music and I really want to work with music. I may have to go to a private school to do this, and that's extremely expensive! But I am almost willing to do it, wouldn't it be for the "risky" job opportunities. Are there maybe someone on here that study or work with music technology whom can give me some advice or tips?
2. Another thing I found a little interest for is the English language. As you may have discovered through this post, my vocabulary and grammar is far from good, and the English language is the only thing I've really enjoyed in school so far. This will be more "safe" than music technology since I can possibly get a teaching job.
Okay, these are my interests. I do feel I choose a kind of useless line of work, since none of the above are something that can help the world with problems such as poverty... but these are the things I can see as manageable.
I'm wondering if anyone have some advices or tips on what to do after this year, even though I know the choise eventually must be mine. Thanks in advance!
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoTwilight could have been so much better differently!?
So I just watched all twilight movies just to judge for my self ... I have not read the books, I just didn't get all the hate, and wanted to see them. So the concept is pretty nice, but it should have been more action and no teenage drama at all ... and Bella should have gone with Jacob! Seriously, wolves kick so much more *** than filthy blood sucking vampires ...
Just wanted to see if anyone shares my opinion? They could have been good if there were a more action filled story and movies! And wolves are such fantastic animals that she should have chose them! :D
1 AnswerMovies8 years agoI have no idea what I want to do for a living?
Hey! I am 18 years old, and I'm in last year of (norwegian) high school, and it's time to think of what I really want to do. I have like 3 and 4 (out of 6 as best) in the subjects at school, and I don't see myself as a person that does too good at school. And after high school there's like 5-7 years of studying before I can start searching for a job.
I believe the next years can be painful if I don't have interest in what I'm studying, and there are two main interests I have. 1. Music, every form of music like recording it, mixing it, playing it. I play guitar. But having music as a career is risky and doesn't give steady income. 2. English, but I'm not sure if teacher is the way to go.
I don't know what to do. of course I want to make a decent amount of money, but I have concerns that I may not like what I am doing... also the amount of studying time scares me since it's so long.
Basically what I am asking is advice. Follow my interests or study whatever I have to study to try to make most money :s Anyone here who study music production or English that maybe can explain a little what it's like?
Thanks in advance! :D
3 AnswersOther - Education8 years agoStudy abroad or studying music here in my own country?
I currently stand before a difficult choice ... There are two options for me:
1. I have been thinking about going to the UK (I'm from Norway) and study English with being a translator or a teacher as outcome.
2. Study music (which I have been passionate about for years), but recent thinking has made me doubt that. What I want to focus on is instruments and music theory. I could become a teacher, but that's not the direction I want my music studies to take. I could study to become a music producer, but as said, that's not what I had in mind. Besides, I feel it is risky career choices within music ... you get paid by how many jobs you have, instead of a steady income.
These are the options for me. I don't feel like studying anything else, as it's only these things I find interesting. I know you can't choose for me, but you can maybe help me make my choice easier? For example, have anyone on here studied abroad, and maybe even in the UK? Is it worth it? You have any thoughts around career choices? :P
2 AnswersStudying Abroad9 years agoChildren of Bodom feels wintry?
Anyone on here that listen to Children of Bodom? Anyone else like me, get a wintry feeling when listening to them? I don't know why, but I do get a cold and wintry feeling when listening them. I think it has something to do with keyboards, that they bring coldness and and a cold atmosphere to their songs. Or maybe it's because we have long and cold winters here in Norway as in Finland, and I happen to listen them during winter x)
Anyway, if you feel the same way, what makes you think of the winter season when listening to them?
2 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMy life's too boring?
I've really got nothing to complain about ... family and friends are great, economy okay ... still i find life's boring as hell at the moment. What do you do when you feel caught up in the same routine day after day, with no change? And I keep thinking: today's world problems are way more important than me, so why the hell should I start getting all "hate my life at the moment" thoughts popping in my head?
Anyone on the same ship as me?
1 AnswerPsychology9 years agoWhy do I feel a urgent need for a girlfriend suddenly?
I'm 18 years old, I have a loving family and friends, the economy of my family is okay, and I really got nothing to complain about ... and yet I feel incomplete ... I have never had a girlfriend and it have never bothered me before, but suddenly I feel incomplete without one ...
I know it sounds like I only want a girlfriend for the sake of having one, but I really want it to be more serious than that. Anyway ... I don't know what the hell's going with me, and I seek advice from people who may have experienced the same thing?
10 AnswersSingles & Dating9 years agoGetting into new bands?
Everytime I get into a new band I soon after find tons of other bands just copying their style... Recently I've been listening a lot to Motorhead with their sort of "biker" logo on shirts and stuff ... and now I find out High on Fire are pretty similar to them, and Chrome Division (a little similar) and Black Label Society (a tiny bit similar, but more original too) are copying that sort of logo and stuff. These bands can be linked back to Motorhead to in my opinion.
I don't like this at all... I 'd like to see bands at least try to diverse from each other! My best example is thrash where anything except the bands from the 80's sounds the same. I know I don't have to listen to these copycat bands, I just think it's not necessary to have them around though. I won't deny people to play music, I just think they should think about breaking some new ground.
Anyone have some opinions about this?
3 AnswersRock and Pop9 years agoMy band recently had our first meeting?
We just had our first meeting (okay, it was only me and the other guitarist, we both play guitar) and we started throwing out ideas. Now basically we're heavily influenced by the NWOBHM scene, but I feel there are too many bands trying to be all revival and stuff (like the horrible thrash scene today) and I feel it's kinda used up, and belong to those who can do it right ... AKA the great bands in the genre.
My question is: do you agree with me? Do you think we should move on, and let this style to the great bands of the 80's and focus on breaking new ground?
1 AnswerRock and Pop9 years agoThis girl kiss me and tell me she likes me, and then act like nothing?
Okay ... last night I was driving some people home. Suddenly there were only me and one girl left and she asked me to just drive somewhere ... so we did and after a while I stopped.
We started talking ... she told me I was handsome and that she had liked me since middle school. Then we kissed. After a while I drove her home because I had to get up early, but we made a deal that when she moves to the city (which is like 1 hour away) in her own apartment, she would like me to come to the city and we would go to the theater, which is something she really like.
Now she is away for a few days (she'll be back on Friday), but I really don't know if I believe it. She was drunk when she told me those things, but being drunk usually brings out the truth doesn't it? At least it does for me haha. She told me to add her on Facebook and to message her, but when I did she didn't seem as exited.
I don't know if I should just ask her if she meant what she said or not ... and if I do, I don't think Facebook is the way to do it. I think I'd better wait until she comes back, but if I talk more on Facebook I won't know how to keep it going, and if I don't talk to her until she comes back I'm afraid she will think I don't like her or that I am a total loser... or she'll maybe lose interest ... I dunno...
So yeah... anyone got any advice?
