  • Typed vs written when at work?

    No, not for fiction writing.

In the workplace, do you have to type or write more often? Do more of your colleagues communicate with you by writing or by typing?

Which is more important at your job?

Add what kind of job it is if you feel like it. This came out of a discussion, where someone opined that typing is useless for when you get a job. I wanted to see if that was true.

  • wasp sting, ring finger?

Wasp stung my friend on her ring finger, below the ring. Now the finger is very swollen, the skin is out much farther than the ring and the ring's beginning to break the skin. Ways to reduce the swelling?

  • Dog tags- cost and where to get?

My dog's tags keep wearing out and falling off very quickly. What kind of tags will stay legible or won't fall off?

    How much do they cost?

Where to get them? Websites which you've used would be especially useful.

  • What are the best dog tags?

How much do dog tags generally cost? What's the best kind to get in terms of safety, legibility, durability etc? How long do your tags usually last?

I'm looking for good, affordable tags either in Ireland or somewhere that ships internationally. I've been looking at boomerang tags- anyone have any experience with them?

Then, of course, the personal curiosity bit- what info do you generally put on your dog tags?

  • How many books do you own?

Exactly what it says on the tin. I know it's a hard thing to estimate, I'm having trouble working it out myself.

It would be interesting to see if this would get different answers in sections not devoted to books.

  • Protecting books from fire?

I have a lot of books, some of which were presents from people who are now dead, some of which, while not valuable, are pretty much irreplaceable so insurance isn't much use there. If they were lost to fire or flood it would be absolutely devastating.

Any ideas for protecting them from fire or water damage? Small vs large scale- is there a way to have a basic level of protection for most of the books and a better one for some of them?

  • Training dog to be reliable off-lead? Lots of questions!?

How do I train a dog to be reliable off-lead? What kind of things should I expose the dog to to make sure they don't take fright and run, when they see these things off-lead (trucks etc)?

Second part: what about your dogs?

Do they walk well on lead, and what kind of lead? What would you consider walking 'well'? And how are they off-lead? Do you use a particular command when you want them to stick close? How did you train them to do this, and how long did it take?

  • Leftover potatoes recipe?

I have some leftover boiled potatoes and I'm wondering if there's anything I can use them in for dinner. Anyone have any ideas? Baking etc is fine, I just don't want to waste them.

  • What do you wish you knew?

We all make mistakes and do stupid things, including when caring for our pets. What do you wish someone had told you/you had realised about dogs when you were younger?

If there was one thing you could say to your younger self about this, what would it be?

  • Dogs you'd never get?

Is there any kind of dog that you'd never get- one that might be a perfectly good dog for other people, but probably wouldn't suit you? Or dogs you feel you couldn't get in your current circumstances?

For me no 1 on the list would be a young border collie, for obvious reasons.

  • Exercise for an obese labrador?

How much exercise per day should an obese labrador get so that she'll lose weight? I'm a slow walker, and the dog will be on lead for most of the time if that's any help. How many hours per day should I walk her?

    Thanks!
