What, where, why, how do they do all these Coronavirus Tests?
For example, if you look at this site, it looks like they to a massively disproportionate tests on non COVID scenarios. What's up with this? I mean, is it because they have to use up all those test kits the government bought on random people? Like sneeze = covid test, fatigue = covid test, broken leg = covid test, stiches = covid test, look at me funny = covid test. lol

1 AnswerBiology9 months agoHow can a peptide segment presented by MHC be unique to a pathogen?
So pathogen proteins are chopped up and pieces are stuck on MHC right? How is it possible that this amino acid sequence doesn't overlap with other non-pathogen proteins since we have so many different proteins in our body. Is it some statistical math that explains this? Or am I missing something?
2 AnswersBiology9 months agoHow are all those biological pictures in texbooks created?
It seems that most of them are computer generated and some even look like they are created with a standard software perhaps. Is the a CAD or something for biology / chemistry and stuff like that? Or is it all randomly made by simple drawing programs?
2 AnswersSoftware12 months agoWatery diarrhea at night followed by no defecation for a whole day?
What kind of bug is this?
During the night, I had a slight stomach ache followed by several trips to the bathroom discharging loads of watery diarrhea. I drank water to "compensate" for the water loss, and it just seems that I just kept discharging all the water I drank within minutes!
After it finally stopped and I went to sleep, I woke up like a normal person, ate my usual stuff, but I didn't take a dump for the entire day! Whereas, I normally for take at least 3 dumps per day.
Only after the following day, did I start taking normal dumps as usual. And it has been a couple of weeks since this happened and everything is normal...that is 3 or so dumps a day, no diarrhea.
3 AnswersOther - Health2 years agoWhy are rods and cones in the "back" of the nerve layers of the retina?
The structure of the cell layers place the photosenitive part of the eye neurons in the back of the retina, while the optic nerves are in front where the incoming light first hits.
Why did evolution shape the eye this way as it would seem more efficient to place the photosenors in the very front, instead of having the nerve signal conduction wires have to shoot out the front and then make a U-turn into the optic nerve. In addition, I would imagine that some of the neurons block some of the light before it hits the rods and cones in the back, a further reduction in efficiency.

So in your 3 prong plug, there's a ground connection. Where does this wire actually go? Does it go back to the electric company? Into the Earth beneath your house? Do they like shove a pole down into the dirt? etc.
5 AnswersPhysics2 years agoReferencing by (authors, dates) vs. [number]. What's the advantage?
I've come across 2 texts which does this. I feel it makes it hard to read, especially when they interject long lists of names from a source interspersed throughout the paragraphs. Is there a name for this style of referencing? Is there an advantage of this vs. just using a number label and refers to a numbered list of references at the end for the reader to go to if they want to see who wrote it and when? Or is this just the writer being lazy?
Thanks
2 AnswersBooks & Authors3 years agoAre individual photons actually "reflected" by atoms?
When a photon hits and object and is "scattered" in a random direction, i.e. not a mirror, is it still the same photon? Does the initial photon change directions instantaneously, or it a absorbed and a new photon is generated by the atom in a random direction?
6 AnswersPhysics3 years agoDid British people really ball room dance at parties like in the movies?
You know like in the movies, the "ladies" in their gowns and "gentlemen" in their suits go to these receptions where they all spin around in the center and stuff. How do they know how to do that without colliding into each other? Are they trained from birth to do something like that to specific songs so that when they go to the parties everyone is in sync? Or is this just in the movies?
2 AnswersMovies4 years agoIn Hong Kong, are Science and Technology college programs easier than Business and Finance to get into?
Someone told me that since Hong Kong is mostly a Finance economy and there aren't too many jobs that require Science and Technology, it would be easier to get into those college programs because Business and Finance is more "competitive". In USA it's just the opposite and many students even opt for Business/Finance because it's the "default" if they don't have great grades or don't know what they want to do.
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)4 years agoCan you wash sugar out of cereal?
If you want to reduce or pretty much eliminate the added sugar in the cereal, can you rinse it though a strainer or something? Or do you have to soak it in water and make it soggy?
Or is it not really practical because of the way they make the cereal...like embed the sugar within the baked and dried food and therefore you can't really wash it out. I know some things like Frosted Flakes, you can see the coating, but for other cereals you can't really see a distinctive coating.

I always have heard about them primarily eating large seafood creatures.
Do they herd animals and drink their milk? Or net small fish like sardines and eat their bones?
Thanks!

I found some unused contact lens cases in my drawer.
They came with solutions from many years ago, but were never used.
Is it OK to use them? Or are the plastics/coating or something no longer good?
