My girlfriend of 8 years has not returned my love for the last 5. This woman goes out of her way to keep us from being close emotionally or physically. She loves our son, but regrets giving up her single life and getting pregnant while we were dating.

We have a 6 year old son, and he is a really special kid. I have stayed with his mother for his sake. I have been loving, loyal, honest, and done my best as her partner, provider, and father to our son. We have a nice comfortable life aside from the fact that she keeps me at a distance. We dont fight, but when I cannot handle her meanness and negativity we dont talk for a while, and she calls me being nice til my love for my son forces me to try one more time with her.

I am trying to hang on and make life as normal as possible for my son, but I am going through life alone because she does not love me. I have noticed that my usually positive and friendly demeanor is starting to change, and I dont want that to happen.

Am I selfish to break it off and to go be happy? Or am I taking care of myself? those close to me tell me I should have left long ago, but I cannot abandon my son like that. I am really confused. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

President obama has extended the patriot act, not closed gitmo, continued the war in iraq, and completely failed to reduce our oil consumption...basically he has taken the same course as President Bush. So, where are all the protesters, accusations that the president has shredded the constitution, and charges of human rights abuses(gitmo is still in business)???
