  • Facebook and what my friends can see?

I recently joined a group, first one for me. So now I'm a member of that group. I noticed recently, that when on that group's page, I posted a reply to a post made by another member, and later one of my friends showed me that my reply appeared on her FB home page. Is there a setting somewhere that will hide posts that I make on the group's page? Just curious. Thanks!

  • Need advice on a prosumer camcorder?

My company is looking to buy one, I would use it to take product videos and plant building videos. Need one that works well in low light, ie. a manufacturing environment. 4K (I'm not even sure what that is) may be nice-to-have for the future, if we want this camcorder to be useful in 5-7 yrs, but you tell me. Probably not a big deal if it's heavier or larger than most, most likely will be on tripod when being used. I'm thinking a 3" display would be minimal size

Help me with features that would be required and nice-to-have. Also if you have suggestions for accessories.

    Thanks!!

Retweets showing that I did not do?

I'm finally starting to use my Twitter account that I've had for 8 years. I noticed today that there are several tweets that look like the ones above. I see the "Retweeted by Jeff Porter", that's me. But I didn't retweet them. Have I been hacked, is it that simple? Or is there another explanation?

    Thanks!

  • Can't move files through a router and shared folder, from XP to Win 7?

Hi everyone, I've shared the "My Documents" folder on my old Win XP machine. When I cable both machines directly to a router, my new Win 7 machine doesn't see the shared Win XP folder. I'm unable to transfer the large number of files I have on the old machine to the new machine.

Should I just go buy a stick drive and move files over several at a time? Not really interested in buying the data transfer cable, since it's a one-time use. Unless there's another valuable use for that cable other than transferring files from one machine to another. I don't plan on buying an external hard drive.

    Thanks!

  • Auto mechanics: stay away from used car that needs a new timing chain?

Wanted to get your opinion on this... the timing chain issue on a car seems to be a "hidden" subject. As I search for a vehicle for my 19-yr old son, I see this ad below, wanted your thoughts on if this is worth pursuing or not. I will plan to ask the seller if there are any other things on the car that don't work properly. But are there potential scary issues that loom in the future if the timing chain has broken on the vehicle? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Ad: "I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring 4dr Sedan LX. I am looking to sell the car as a whole or for parts. Has a brand new A/C compressor and Alternator and battery 1 year old. New surpentine belt. Heads re-done in October. Body looks great. Will post pics soon. Only problem is that the timing chain went out. Tires are brand new with less than 4,000 miles on them. Tred is great. I need to get rid of this car or sell it for parts. Text or call for details. I am asking $500 OBO for tires and rims and $500 for A/C compressor. or $600 OBO for whole car!!! Needs to go!!!"

  • Is it worth it to refinance my mortgage?

The details: Currently owe about $80k on the house, it's worth $95k (I live in a rural area). Current interest rate is 5%. New interest rate is 3.875%. Quicken Loans is the mortgage company. Is it worth it to refinance, considering the costs and fees?

I am in year 3 of the current 30-yr mortgage, I understand that after the refinance, even if the payment is lower, the amount of principal in the newly-refinanced payment may be less than what I'm paying now. I am putting a little extra each month toward the principal. I am 48.

Another option: should I look at the 15-yr loan, and see if I can afford the monthly payment?

    Thanks!

  • Taxes.about.com says my college freshman is not a qualifying child nor relative?

I'm researching on the internet... thanks to the two people that answered my question from a few minutes ago... but, here we go: taxes.about.com says I can claim my son at college, if he's a qualifying child or a qualifying relative.

A qualifying child must live with me for 6 months and 1 day in 2011. He moved there on June 26. Bummer.

A qualifying relative must have earned less than $3700 in 2011. He earned about $6700 in 2011.

That sounds like I can't claim him on my taxes. True?

  • If son moved away to college in June 2011, I do not claim him as a dependent on my 2011 taxes?

I forget how this works... do I still claim him as a dependent even after he moves away to college?

    Thanks!

  • Modification of child support / alimony... how to do it?

My ex-wife filed for a modification of child support last July, when my son moved away to college. Ex has our daughter living with her. I went to zero kids, she still had one, so the child support calculation increased about 10 times the previous amount. Anyway, there is an attorney in the county where we divorced, in Kansas, where I still live, that handled it all. Attorney's tile is "District Court Trustee".

I may be getting a job where my income will be about half of what it is now. I assume I would contact that same attorney, to talk about filing for a reduction in alimony or child support, or both. Is that correct? I remember that there is a specific calculation done to determine the alimony, and then the child support is calculated based on alimony. Any advice and insight you can give is appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Have you resolved a family issue, where a bro-in-law or sis-in-law did not like your fiance?

Only 5000 characters? lol. Here goes... I'm male 48, sis-in-law (Mary) 35, married to my brother for 15 yrs. Mary and I have been good friends during that time. I'm divorced 2+ yrs, got engaged to a woman (Jane). Jane is a wonderful woman, she is calm, easy-going, a giver, and has many other qualities that I'm looking for. She's a widow, her late hub died 2+ yrs ago. Jane has son in the Marines and daughter who's been in / out of jail and drug rehab 4 yrs.

Mary is not a forgiving person. She is sweet, friendly, always a smile, and giving. From Mary's point of view, she drives past a bar and sees Jane standing outside smoking a cigarette w/ 3 guys, and another guy has his arm around her. Mary hears from me that ten days later, Jane moves out of my house without telling me. Jane started drinking one morning, got depressed, felt she wasn't good enough for me, and just packed up most of her stuff and left, while I was gone for a few hours. I tell Jane she and I are done, Jane says she has an alcohol problem, and she goes to AA meetings and gets counseling. Jane asks for a 2nd chance, I tell Jane she needs to apologize to all of my adult family members and my kids, and she does so. Everyone forgives Jane except Mary. Mary would not reply to Jane. I have a list of things that Jane needs to do to win back my trust, and she's done them all, by actions not words. But Mary won't forgive her. I have forgiven Jane, and Mary knows this.

Mary is protective of me, only wants what's best for me. I've told her I want to know what she thinks as I dated women after the divorce. I welcomed her comments.

So coming soon there's a party hosted by Mary, she's invited me. Jane will be in town visiting on that date. I asked Mary if Jane was welcome to the party, since Jane was earned back my trust and is seeking forgiveness from Mary and will be moving back here soon.

Mary won't forgive her. Mary remembers the hurt in my voice as I told her that Jane had left. Mary remembers seeing Jane standing at the bar with another guy's arm around her. Mary knows about Jane's horrible last 2+ yrs, losing a husband to a sudden illness, having a daughter with jailtime and drug problems, having a son in boot camp and deployed in Afghanistan, and Jane's trouble with alcohol during this time. Doesn't matter, Mary won't forgive. Her words are, she'll forgive but won't forget. Mary doesn't want to hear "a sob story justifying her actions". Mary does say that she'll be civil around Jane and will do it for me because Mary wants to continue our friendship. Mary feels that there's nothing Jane can do or say now, to make what she did 'right'.

Here's my thoughts: Jane and I will be together, I want to make her happy the rest of her life. My thoughts about Mary? Try to sit down and talk with her about forgiveness, and why she has trouble with it. I've seen other instances with people in her life where she can't forgive someone for a mistake they made. I would guess 'no' on the idea of Mary knowing that the bible says God won't forgive you for sins, if you can't forgive others for theirs. And the funny thing is, Jane didn't make the mistake on Mary, Jane made the mistake on me. If I forgive Jane, why can't Mary?

So anyway, if you've solved similar family situations such as this, tell me about it, and what you did to make it right, and suggestions for what I can do here.

    Thanks!

  • How to give normal glucosamine pills to a dog?

I have a puppy about 11 months old, a pomeranian, that looks like he may have arthritis in his back right leg. I have this big bottle of Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM supplements for humans. They are tablets, about 3/4 of an inch long.

Groomer suggested to give a small piece (less than a 1/4) of the tablet to my dog daily. Does that sound about right?

    Thanks!

  • Word problem involving distances and system of equations... help!?

Let me know how to solve this one, really need to know the process, I'm struggling with this one. I was helping my son with college algebra and we couldn't figure out this one:

Robert and Julie are 2.2 miles apart. If they both walk the same direction, Robert catches up to Julie in 11 hours. If they walk toward each other, they meet in 1 hour. What is Robert's rate and Julie's rate?

I tried setting up the "table" for each situation, putting things in terms of 'd' being the distance that Julie walks in each situation, and then getting Robert's rate in terms of d in each table, and setting Robert's rates in the two situations equal to each other. I got (d + 2.2) / 11 = 2.2 - d, but don't think it's correct, 1.833333333 mph.

    Thanks!

  • How to put an iOS emulator on a Windows computer?

My daughter lives 300 miles away and has an iTouch. She is 14 and is starting to do programming with "Basic! by miSoft" on it. I would like to simulate the iOS environment on my computer so I could install the miSoft Basic too. So I assume I need to download a free iOS emulator. Is that correct? Is one better than another? I did some searching today and got quickly overwhelmed at exactly what I should install. Thanks!

  • What are your thoughts on the NFL holdouts right now: Palmer, Gore, DeSean Jackson?

Carson Palmer has made it clear for a long time that he will not play for the Bengals, and Bengals say they will not trade him. More recently, Frank Gore and DeSean Jackson are holding out for mo' money. Your thoughts?

  • Why are people asking NOW how their team will do this year?

:o) There's tons of players being released, traded, signed etc over the next week or two. Until the dust settles, you can't REALLY tell how your team will do against the rest of the league until the rosters stabilize, can you?

  • Dallas fans... you ok with the team releasing Marion Barber and Roy Williams?

I think both players have a lot left in the tank. Maybe a change of scenery will do them both some good. But are you ok with letting them go?

  • What's the latest status of the 2011 NFL season?

Catch me up on things, I haven't been paying attention for the last few weeks. The players union broke up, so that individual players could sue the owners, correct? What's the % chance that the season will start in Sept? What kinds of events and milestones may happen in May, June? What has to happen in order for training camps to begin in July?

    Thanks!
