  • How is Alexa updating without a wifi connection?

The last two Echo Show devices I bought started downloading updates as soon as I plugged them in, without having yet configured the wifi settings or password.  I thought it may have been possible, although disturbing, that they came pre-programmed with my wifi settings and password; however, the second one I turned on was out of range from my wifi network.  Does Alexa have a cellular chip built in that no one is talking about?

  • Can anyone say why the media won't cover violence where the gun was obtained illegally, vice legally?

I'm curious, because all the violence I see here in New Orleans is all black on black violence, but no one ever comes out here in the media to cover those deaths, and they are all illegal weapons. Do we not already have gun control? What about the kids being killed here monthly by stray bullets?

  • fast food delivery, drive through?

I visited Taco Bell for the first time in about 20 years today, and it reminded me of the following: I had a friend in college that got a DUI for driving to Taco Bell intoxicated, and it was only two blocks from our Dorm. I asked him why he drove, and he told me that he rode his bike there (after midnight, when the general doors were closed), and they wouldn't let him order from the drive through window because he wasn't in an automobile, so he went back to get his car. Recently I was out of town and arrived very late to a place that had no restaurants open when I got there. I stopped at a Domino's pizza that appeared to be open, but when I approached the door they told me they were only open for delivery, not walk in orders. I told them if they could just deliver to my car out in the parking lot in front of their store I would tip them $5, and they refused. I was staying on a military installation that didn't allow deliveries, so I couldn't do delivery. Can anyone in the restaurant business explain the rational to this? I also live in an area where they won't deliver after dark, but will deliver one block down the street. I offered to meet them on that block, and they also refused...

  • The death penalty: a rare challege between liberals and conservaties between birth and death row?

One of the things that amazes me most between the two arguments is that liberals seem to always promote abortion rights, but stand clear of the death penalty. On the flip side, conservatives always want to promote pro-life without the thought of the outcome of the life of the child after birth. At the basics, life imprisonment should favor both parties as the cost of death row is far higher than life in jail, and at the very least, conservative abortion critics could be rested that most of the dead would be from parents that couldnt or didn't want to raise them in the first place, so they would just eat up tax payer dollars in the long run becoming welfare children or wardens of the state. Oh, and it costs an average of 12K to adopt a baby that someone would want at the cost of $300 to kill it.

  • Has Yahoo Answers in the political section become nothing more than a post for opinions?

It doesn't seem like anyone is actually asking questions, just venting their political point of view. I'd like to know how other people posting think.

  • Why does everyone think the AR-15 is an assault rifle?

I own several guns, and many years ago when I saw the AR-15 (used in many recent mass shootings) I figured it was an assault rifle. I bought one after my brother said it was a good hunting rifle with the sights, and realized not only does it not shoot bullets any faster than a normal semi-automatic handgun, its use outside of sniper situations or hunting is awkward and counter-productive for concealment and aim at short range. It doesn't fire off like something in the movies. You pull one trigger motion, and get one bullet. The ammunition clips hold 30 rounds, vice 20 for an extended clip semi-automatic handgun (which is much easier to conceal, along with it's magazines). Aside from the scare factor of it's looks, it's a bad weapon for the type of shooting going on recently. The larger bullets have no improved impact on close range shootings. Aside from that, it would be much more obviously identified by the defending party, whether it be police or the victim, as you can't stick it in your back pocket or anything under less than a trench coat. I'm very open for anyones opinion on this.

  • Mortgage rate changed 24hrs before closing?

I had what I thought was a locked-in mortgage rate at 4.625, and the loan officer informed me the day before closing that the rate would be 5% because of some new regulation that he had just found out about two days ago. I have a "good faith estimate" with a quote of 4.625 on paper, but now pressed to close with the property manager threatening to keep a $3k deposit if I don't close, I'm lost for words. Any recommendations?

  • Sex Offender Database on Iphone?

I recently noticed that the app was released on the Iphone and became an instant hit. I wanted to get some constructive feedback as to how people felt about the database in general. Before you answer. In some states an 18 year old having sex with a 16 year old, and prosecuted,is a sex offender, even after marrying the person after the conviction. I worked on a database in one of these states, and was sympathetic towards those cases, but am not so much with the others. Do you think a sex offender, regardless of the circumstances, should be listed in a nationwide database?

  • constitutional rights of the deceased?

Do 4th Amendment Rights apply to the deceased? It came to issue if a search warrant is required to conduct a law enforcement search on a deceased person property. Don't reply without case law. Thanks!
