Looking for military history on the Battle of Leyte Gulf, I have a few questions and I cannot find the answers or a why not reason at all.?
Ok Rear Admiral Jesse Oldendorf had his battle line of 6 battleships” Task Group 77.2" that could do 21 knots.
When Taffy 3 was attacked Oldendorf battle line was about 30 to 50 miles away when I mapped it. is my mapping wrong?
My question is, why did he not respond, even though it was not his responsibility to do so, The Southern approach was secured by night action that night and could have been covered by the Cruisers and his other surface forces.
The Maryland BB-46 had 16 in 45 cal Mark 5 which had a max firing range of 40,180 which is 22.8 miles. Which had radar and the Japs did not so she could fire over the horizon before the Yamato could even get a visual range.
