I love orchestral music, my favorite composers being Mahler, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius. I also love politics, economics, philosophy (mostly the field of ethics), psychology, I love storms, playing poker, and reading. I've read most of Stephen King's books, some Dean Koontz, Poe, other educational texts, and of course, the Holy Bible. I play trumpet and flute well. I also have a disturbing fascination for the mind, which goes as far as my obsession with Hannibal Lecter. Mr. Bean is my hero. I enjoy people and making new friends. AIM = HarmonicJourney if anyone wishes to chat, I am usually available, and am friendly. Brandon

  • What should I offer on this property?

    I have found this property that I am very interested in.

    The current owner is being foreclosed upon, and owes over $150k on the property. It was recently appraised for $73k, and similar homes in the area are going for around 50-60k.

    The house is on 4.5 acres, in good condition, but only has electric heating. I have been told that the home has been turned down by listing agents because of how they think the home won't sell?

    In any case, the foreclosure date is May 1st.

    Does anything think the bank would accept a shortsale?

    I want the property and am willing to put a down payment of 3-4k. Would this help?

    I want to buy the property for no more than $25,000. Would I be able to get a loan for $21,000 if I pay $4k down payment? If not, do you think they would accept a loan offer than includes some extra cash for me to put into the home and make improvements on it, to raise the value? It needs new carpeting, I want to put addition on the home, tear down a wall and combine two small bedrooms into 1 master bedroom with a bathroom, etc, and the home has no master bedroom. The basement is also mostly finished. I want to finish it, and maybe put another bedroom and maybe a bathroom down there, and also since the home has electric heating only, I want to put in heating ducts and put a wood furnace in the basement. I and the person that wants to buy the home with me (my aunt) can both do the large majority of this work ourselves.

    What are my options, and what do you think the lender is likely to accept?

    Thanks

  • Arranging images into a grid pattern?

    I have a div section in the middle of my page arranged to where I want it.

    Now, I want to put multiple image thumbnails inside this section, 9 to be exact.

    so far, I just have the <img src> for all of them one after another, and they show one after another,

    but I want to arrange them in some kind of a grid pattern without having to make a <div id> for each of the 9 images, and position them one by one. Is there a way to do this?

    Right now, I can fit about 4.5 images in one row, but I want to have 3 rows, with 3 images each, margined properly from all sides.

    I appreciate any help I can get for this.

    Thanks.

  • OnMouseOver help - something wrong with my code?

    <div id="GamesArea">

    <style type="text/css">

    #GamesArea {background-color: white;

    border-width: thin;

    border-style: solid;

    width:711px;

    height:500px;

    position:absolute;

    left:250px;

    top:315px;

    right:300px;

    bottom:400px;}

    </style>

    <img src="C:\WebPage\Cards\Images\Euchre.png" alt="Euchre"

    OnMouseOver="this.src='C:\WebPage\Cards\Images\

    EuchreHover.png';"

    OnMouseOut="this.src='C:\WebPage\Cards\Images\

    Euchre.png';"

    />

    </div>

    When I open up the page, it will show the picture but when I put the mouse cursor over it, instead of it changing when I hover over it, it turns into a broken image.

    Something has to be wrong with my code, and I'm a noob at this so any help is appreciated.

  • Positioning a form with div & css?

    I'm having trouble positioning a form with div and css.

    As of now, I have something like this:

    <div id="CreateUser"> </div>

    <style> #CreateUser {position:absolute; top:10px; right:10px;} </style>

    and then the actual form is after this.

    Do I have to create a <div class> ? if so, how do I do that?

    Right now the form is positioning itself in the top left corner of the page by default, overlapping the top banner logo I have there. I can't seem to get it to move anywhere, despite having it positioned 10px to from the top and right of the page.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hierarchy of web programming languages in a website?

    I am trying to understand this correctly -

    All with HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP/MySQL

    When one would make a webpage, it is written in HTML - and when you want to use CSS or Javascript to enhance your page, you write a SEPARATE file in either of those, and link them to your main HTML page with a tag? Or do you put the CSS and JS codes right in the main HTML page?

    Or is it you write the main page in Javascript using both JS and HTML, and the CSS are always in a separate file which you link to the main page with a code?

    And with PHP or Mysqueal, you write that stuff directly into the HTML page?

    Also, with everything together, can you now make a multi-page website with one html file?

    Im trying to understand the basic layout of a typical multiuser website community.

    Also, with HTML5 you can't make frames anymore, so how is a page divided up, is it using the <div> tag? Does the <div> have to be used in javascript in it's own file?

    I am pretty confused and would like some help in figuring out the logical hierarchy of web languages.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Your thoughts on "Kraft" by Magnus Lindberg?

    I had recently heard a performance of this piece on the radio played by the NYPO. Now normally, I enjoy new kinds of music, with chaotic and/or atonal moods. However, this piece left me feeling very hostile towards the work and the composer. It isn't the fact that I felt the supposed "controlled chaos" was just an excuse for how it really sounds, which came across as neither controlled, nor chaotic, nor is it the lack of various themes, and not even the length of the piece, which by the end, had me feeling very anxious for the piece to finish so I could go on listening to something else, which ended up being Hearts In Space, which I don't mind as much.

    What really got me irked about the piece is this: it came across as cold, distant, hostile, arrogantly hateful, and devoid of any spirit. In fact, the piece reminded me too well of the book 1984, maybe Brave New World, somewhere along the lines of the eradication of religion, self, love, and liberty.

    The part towards the end where you hear bubbles and screeches, I could only imagine Christians being boiled alive by the "purifiers". As for the title, "Kraft", German for "strength", tells me how these leftists-facist-collectivist whatever-u-call-thems view their ideology and their progress as such. I could imagine this piece being given full commendation from the "Ministry of Love".

    I guess my opinions on this work reflect a lot on my own beliefs and how I generally see things, and this piece of music left a nasty taste in my mouth. I hope others of you are familiar with this piece and have a different perspective on it that maybe I could learn from.

    This is the first time I had ever heard of this composer, and the only piece of his I have heard, so I am trying not to judge him on just this one piece of music - rather I am reflecting on the music, and not intending to make a general statement about the composer and his beliefs.

    Anways, hope to have some replies. Meph - I hope maybe you ring in on this one?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnus_Lindberg

    There are no YouTube links of this piece being played. In fact, the radio broadcast I listened to was the NYPO debut of the piece, performed on Oct 6 of this year. The piece was composed between 1983 and 1985.

  • Connecting another monitor via SCSI?

    My uncle went and bought another monitor for his e-machines. The computer has integrated graphics, of course.

    He discovered on his own that the graphics only has one VGA port. I told him that he would need to get a new video card with two adapters. However, he is adament that he can connect the new monitor via SCSI, as he said he has done it before. I have no idea how SCSI works, that is old technology that I haven't worked with before.

    How can he connect this new monitor via SCSI?

    Thanks.

  • Sound only coming through one speaker?

    I have external speakers hooked up my to laptop, but the sound is only coming through one speaker, AND, when I type, I can hear the clickity click coming through the speaker.

    The "balance" in the master volume control is correct. I dont think it is anything to do with the sound driver, but I could be wrong. Hooking up the laptop to another pair of external speakers works, the sound comes through both, but on this pair, it only comes through one. Is it the speaker that is broken? And why does the clickity-click sound of me typing come through the speaker?

    I will choose an answer, so you're not wasting your time. Thank you.

  • Missing part of my axle...?

    I recently bought a used truck from someone, a 1999 dodge ram 1500 (318 engine)

    I went to check out the bushings, trying to figure out why there was some play in my wheels.

    Come to find out, on the driver's side wheel, the wheel hub is not connected to the axle.

    There is the outer axle shaft with the U bolt type thing sticking it, which is the wheel hub - so at least I have that - but there is no U joint (the cross/plus looking thing) and there is a rag shoved inside the axle casing to keep the grease from pouring out.

    The right side of the truck looked fine, and really the truck does run well.

    I don't know if there is a "cv joint" on this truck - and if there is, I don't know where it is.

    To fix this, do I just need to take the hub out and slide the left inner axle shaft it? How do I know if the shaft is all the way in and connected to the drive?

    Also, do I need a rubber boot for the u joint by the wheel?

    Thanks, I don't know exactly what else to ask, any information about replacing the left inner axle shaft and u joint for a 1999 dodge ram 1500 5.2 will be helpful (four wheel drive also).

  • Making a loan to ones self?

    I have a friend who started a business and formed an LLC.

    He told me he is going to give a loan from himself to his LLC for tax reasons.

    He said he's going to file taxes on the LLC separate from his own personal income, and I think normally one passes through all the profits from the LLC to his own personal income, and it gets taxed on his own personal income.

    Would he benefit from making this personal loan from himself to his own LLC?

    Is this legal?

    Thanks

  • Are virtual economies self-sustaining?

    I have tried out online virtual economy type games like Second Life and Project Entropia, both of which have in-game economies in which users can earn in-game currency and then convert their profits into real world money. The economies of both of these are sustainable in the fact that more money is being pumped into the virtual economy than is being taken out of it.

    Can a virtual economy ever survive if most people are making profits and taking the virtual currency out of the virtual economy? It seems almost akin to taking a trillion dollars and burning it in a giant heap.

    Also, when the few people who make a good profit from a virtual economy take out their profits into the real world, where does the money come from when they convert the virtual currency into real currency? I imagine that the 90% of users who spend their own real money in the game don't take any money out, and therefore the money left in is being earned by the profit-makers (capitalists), but what happens when more money is being taken out than is being put it? The overseers of the virtual economy can not just print out more virtual money, it has to come from some kind of source. And it seems like inflation would go through the roof if that happened. Would a non-profit overseer work, as opposed to a private for-profit company like the owners of Second Life or Entropia?

    I understand that this is a difficult question to answer, but any insight from anyone who knows a lot about economics would be helpful to us all.

    Thanks,

  • Question about "Program Music"?

    Do you like "Program Music"? Or, music that is about something specifically?

    Example can be like Beethoven's 6th symphony...we all know it is about nature...the break of morning in the 1st movt, the storm in the 4th movt, the sun coming out in the 5th movt, making things new again.

    Also an example can be Debussy's "Fetes" - its about a festival, although one can interpret that festival how they choose to a certain extent, or his "Claire de Lune" - it's about the moon.

    Non-examples include any Mahler symphony (Mahler at first liked the idea of a program to go along with his music but then changed his mind and was vehemently against it), any Brahms symphony.

    I'm not asking if you only like one over the other, but rather if you are particular to music of a programmatic nature.

    I certainly do. If I were to seriously write music, I would probably write a lot of music about specific things, like, say, a can of beer.

    Only joking about the beer. But I would probably write music about paintings, or a story, or a geographical region. I've wanted to write music that conveys my interpretation of Van Gogh's "Starry Night", a piece of music about my impressions of the Poe story "The Fall of the House of Usher" and also music about certain geographical areas of the U.S. Have also wanted to write incidental music on the Hans Christian Andersen story "The Snow Queen".

    I do love non-programmatic music as well, as it lets you interpret it how you want.

    Any takers?

  • Changing my plates/driver's license?

    I am moving to Kansas from Michigan.

    How long do I have to change my my plates and license from Michigan to Kansas? Or does it not matter?

    Also, I need to get car insurance BEFORE I move because I don't have it now.

    Is it ok if I put my new address when I buy insurance from Progressive? It is a bit cheaper out there for insurance, and there is not point in me registering my insurance in Michigan when I'm not going to be here much longer.

    My bday is Saturday, when I have to renew my license and buy new registration for my car, but I am not moving until after the 1st of July and I'm just trying to save myself some $$$.

  • The Tchaikovsky Chronicles?

    If you've ever read Tchaikovsky's diary, he will intermittently mention situations regarding "z", as in "there was much 'z' today".

    Do you take that to mean homosexual relationships?

    Many people think Tchaikovsky was gay.

    If it was proven he was, would you still listen to his music?

    A music director of mine also thought he fancied young boys.

    If this was also proven true, would you still listen to his music?

    For some, this may be a dilemma. I am listening to his 5th symphony as we speak, currently the 2nd movt, the "love scene" I call it.

    Listening to this music is what brought on this question.

  • Is this music or is it not?

    Here is one my favorite videos to watch on Youtube.

    Stripsody: Graphic Score by Alejandro Aranda

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBiz2EYUnUA

    And here is what I believe is the original recording by Cathy Berberian in 1969.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qT9K1eG53zU&feature...

    I like the first link better. She seems more expressive.

    So would you consider this music?
