1977 Evinrude 75hp very high idle?
Just finished rebuilding all three carbs, connected the water hose and started right up and runs at a high RPM, I adjusted and even disconnected throttle linkages tried everything I could think of...still idles at a very high RPM. there seems to be no jet adjustments on the carbs. Is there some way to adjust the low speed jets on this motor? I can't find anything on it in the manual. in fact the manual seems to be pretty lacking in every way. it also seems that the only timing adjustment is a big screw under the flywheel towards the front of the motor. but this only comes into effect as the throttle is opened. is there no way to set timing at an idle? The manual I have is from Johnson, published in 1978. It is very very lacking of info.

I have a 1977 evinrude 75hp. It runs fine and has lots of acceleration on dry land with the flush kit attached, but when I put it in the lake and shift to forward or reverse, it won't accelerate at all. It will run all day long at an idle, but if you try to give it gas, it just boggs down and dies. on dry land it will run like crazy in all gears. In the lake I can reach back to the motor and activate the throttle on the side of the carbs and it'll take off and go (just won't quite plane-out) it throttle and spark advance are activated together, it just dies.
