  • Are there any calorie-free, sugar-free, sweetener-free, aspartame-free sodas?

I know it's kind of a "too-good-to-be-true" kind of request, but I really don't want to drink beverages with aspartame.

  • Probability question?

Suppose that start-up companies in the area of biotechnology have probability 0.2 of becoming profitable, and that those in the area of information technology have probability 0.15 of becoming profitable. A venture capitalist invests in one firm of each type. Assume the companies function independently.

    a) What is the probability that both companies become profitable?

    b) What is the probability that neither company becomes profitable?

    c) What is the probability that at least on of the two companies become profitable?

    I have the answers of:

    a) 0.03

    b) 0.68

    c) 0.32

But I don't know how or why. Can someone explain the methods of getting these answers?

  • How do eBay prices start at $0.99 then sell much higher?

How is it possible that so many ebay auctions start at prices less than $1 and then sell for much higher prices? I've seen ipods starting at $0.99 and then they sell for $250. When I look at the bid history, I see someone along the way will throw in a bid for $200 on the item. Is this just the seller using another account to boost the price once bidders start coming in? Is that allowed? Or is it simply some moron who ruins the deal and opts to pay more than they had to?
