I'm here to answer mostly history questions. I do some interesting research if I don't already know the answer and let you know.
Famous academies around the world?
Can someone give me a list of famous academies, both historical and present, around the world, best at what they do? For example, the French Academy of Science, West Point, etc.
1 AnswerPreschool10 years agoSecesssion versus Self-Determination?
During the American Civil War, the U.S. government held that secession was illegal and unconstitutional, and therefore put down what was perceived to be a rebellion. However, fifty years later, the U.S. under Woodrow Wilson pushed for the idea of self-determination for peoples across the globe. Is this a double standard or completely different cases? If it's the latter, can people in general understand the distinction?
I don't want rants - ten points for a good explanation, short or long, backed by sources, please!
1 AnswerHistory10 years agoWhat's that kid saying in the T-mobile ad?
You know that commercial that has the family literally carrying the "internet" with them? And the T-mobile girl talks about T-mobile data plans? What the heck is the kid saying?
He's like "So we can have the almighty ____?"
Clow? Cloud? Cloud computing? What?
2 AnswersOther - Television10 years agoSome useful degrees related to political science?
I like poli sci but are there related degrees that are much more in demand in this job market? How related are they?
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)10 years agoIs there a site where I can find the specific locations of rare earth elements?
I need to find the specific locations of certain rare earth elements, e.g. lanthanum. Are there any sites, preferably with maps, that have the specific locations (e.g. Mountain Pass, CA)?
Or do we only have information on where rare earth metals in general, not the specific elements, are found, since they don't usually occur in pure form?
3 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology10 years agoWhat's the deal on government jobs?
Yahoo News is telling me that a "government" major is a good choice for a degree these days. I never heard this before. My school only offers a political science degree, but is there even a good outlook for government jobs? Are they looking more for poli sci or technical (e.g. engineering, computer) people?
3 AnswersGovernment & Non-Profit10 years agoDoes this sound cliche/done before?
This is an over simplification but does a story about fighting an evil corporation sound familiar?
6 AnswersBooks & Authors10 years agoCombining science and social science?
Is there some major or career that specialize in a cross between science (and math) and the social sciences (also marketable/in demand maybe)? Specifically I am interested in physical sciences and international relations.
2 AnswersHigher Education (University +)10 years agoPolitical science degree?
My parents tell me I won't get a job no matter how hard I try...are they absolutely right? I've gotten into some good schools like UC Berkeley and LA. I love politics and political science but they tell me bioengineering, engineering in general, and comp sci are where the jobs are at. So I guess my question is: are there jobs in political science? How does Bachelor's/Master's make a difference? And is polisci just another "useless liberal arts major"?

I'm entering a contest (which involves a publishing house). Should I mention this to a literary agent?
2 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoQuestion about a section of the Constitution?
Article 1 (on the legislative branch), Section 8 talks about the powers of Congress.
It says: "To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years."
I'm confused. Does that mean all of our military can't be funded during times of "peace" or what? I'm not trying to make a point, I'm just befuddled.
2 AnswersGovernment1 decade agoNovel suggestions? Crime/detective, original works?
I'm looking for some good novels pertaining to crime, corruption, detective, police etc.
Also some novels set in modern day but are very unique and original or deviate from the norm.
3 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWebmaster's pay for a small business?
I'm going to manage a website for someone's fledgling business. I don't know how much she will make, so how should I charge, by a rate? What might be reasonable?
3 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoWhat is up with this case of a mixed child of an interracial marriage?
Ok, so there was this kid who said he was half Chinese, half white, but Chinese "on my mother's side, to your relief."
Anyone know what that means?

Could you tell me a cheap, quick way to convert VHS video--and also camcorder videos--to DVD or other digital formats (like for my computer, for ex. .wmv)? The DVD recorders are $150 or more, but is there another way? I have some valuable home videos that I want to preserve.
