Need a D&C, do I need anesthesia?
Hi, I had a baby 9 weeks ago and never stopped bleeding. I had an ultrasound and found out today I need a D&C for retained products of conception. I would prefer not to have general anesthesia, I would like to know your experiences with just local anesthesia and sedation. Was it very painful? Do you remember much of the procedure? FYI I had to have a C-section as induction did not work, so I am not sure how easily my cervix will dilate. Thanks in advance for your responses.
1 AnswerWomen's Health1 decade agoWhat to stuff a black knit stuffed animal with?
Hi, I am knitting some stuffed animals for friends kids, and I have white stuffing for the light colored yarns, but I want to make some out of black and dark purple yarn and the white stuffing may show thru more than I want it to. I have learned that it is difficult/impossible to dye polyester stuffing, so I'm not sure what to use or do. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey, I just thought I'd ask what people's strangest pregnancy symptoms are.
Mine is that cigarettes smell good to me now! And they always smelled bad before. What are yours?
7 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoAnyone on Advair and get oral thrush?
Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I just recently started on advair and promptly developed what I am almost certain is oral thrush. =( I am going to the doctor today to get diagnosed and treated as it is very uncomfortable. I love advair, it has really helped my asthma, but does anyone know any home treatments for oral thrush or ways to keep it from recurring for those of us on inhaled steroids? Thanks for any suggestions you have!
2 AnswersRespiratory Diseases1 decade agoCan anyone help me understand first trimester screening better?
Hi, I'm an ultrasound tech and I know a lot about fetal anomalies, but if anyone has a better understanding of how first trimester screening works that would be great. I had the first trimester blood tests and the nuchal transclucency ultrasound. I'm 31.
My ultrasound was normal, but my blood test results came back that I have a 1 in 253 risk of having a baby with Down's Syndrome (my risk of trisomy 18 & 13 was extremely low). Now I know this is still a very small risk of the fetus having Down's, but it's about double what it should be given my age. What I don't get is they say the test has something like an 85% accuracy rating, and a 5% risk of false positive. How can a screening test have a 5% false positive rate? That makes it sound like only a 5% chance it's wrong, but all the test tells me is I have an increased risk for Down's given my age. I thought my baby has only a 1 in 253 chance of having the condition, but a 5% false positive rate makes it sound like it has a 95% risk! I'm just not quite able to wrap my head around this math. Can anyone clarify this for me? I will ask the OB at my next visit but that's 2 weeks away. Thanks.
3 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoAnyone else's asthma get worse while pregnant?
Hi, just curious if this happened to anyone else. I feel like my asthma has gotten worse since I've been pregnant. I'm 12 weeks now. I find I wheeze a lot, especially at night, and I cough a lot more too. And when I cough too hard I throw up. =( Any suggestions from anyone? Thanks.
5 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoWhen does the fun start?
I'm 5 weeks 3 days, and have virtually no symptoms so far. Just a dull low backache that comes and goes. No nausea, no sore boobs, or anything else that I can tell... when do the fun symptoms usually start? I'm just curious. Thanks! =)
12 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoWhen do I call the doctor?
Well today is 11 dpo and I just got a very faint positive! I'm still in shock. I kind of want to take another test in a few days and see what that says. Or should I call the doctor to set up an appointment right away?
4 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoGrowing vegetables indoors over the winter?
Hi, we bought a house here in Minnesota and it has a solarium. If you're not familiar with the term it's basically a 4-season porch made entirely of thick glass windows. It's on the south side of the house and gets several good solid hours of sun every day. It also has a separate thermostat so I can keep it warm. Anyways, I wanted to try growing stuff in there this winter. I have some large pots. I was thinking tomatoes for sure, but wondered if anyone had any suggestions or experience growing vegetables indoors in Minnesota/northern areas over the winter. What other vegetables would work well so we could have fresh stuff this winter? Thanks for any suggestions!
6 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoWhat exactly qualifies as irregular?
We are trying to have a baby so I have been paying more attention to my cycles than I used to. I always thought I was fairly regular but I'm just curious if that's true. The last 6 cycles have been 31 days, 26, 26, 26, 29, and back to 31. Is that within the realm of "regular"? Or do most people's periods really come on the same day every time? Thanks!
1 AnswerTrying to Conceive1 decade agoHelp! How do I cover a henna tattoo temporarily?
I got a henna tattoo at the Renaissance Festival. Now I got a call and I have a job interview in a few days. The henna is on my hand, wrist, and forearm. I plan to wear long sleeves, but what can I cover my hand with for that day? It is at a place that would look down on visible tattoos. I just got it a few days ago too so it's pretty dark still. Anyone have any experience what works well to cover tattoos, henna in particular, with? Concealer? Foundation? Any particular brand?
Thanks!
5 AnswersTattoos1 decade agoNeed some advice please! :)?
My period usually comes days 26-29. So, I took an ept pregnancy test today (day 26) and it was negative. :( Anyways, tomorrow we are going to the renaissance festival where I generally like to indulge in a fair amount of mead (it's honey wine fyi). :) Should I take the negative as a generally good solid negative and have my wine? Or should I hold off, just in case? What would you ladies do? (Obviously if I get my period tomorrow I'll go ahead and have as much as I want, but if not....?)
5 AnswersTrying to Conceive1 decade agoHow do you keep from going nuts?
Ha ha, I'm an ultrasound tech, so I already know more about pregnancy than most people, but what I don't know is how do you distract yourself while waiting to find out if you're pregnant? Seriously my period is due in less than a week and I sooooooo want to know like, NOW. THE WAITING IS KILLING ME. In addition to the fact that if I'm *not* pregnant I'd really like a margarita, ha ha.
2 AnswersTrying to Conceive1 decade agoSexual side effects with celexa for anxiety?
I take celexa (citalopram) for anxiety and find it very helpful. However it seems as though it is more difficult to have an orgasm. It has not affected my sex drive much, only how easily I can orgasm. Anyone take celexa for anxiety and have this problem? Any meds for anxiety that do not have this effect? I will keep taking it if there is nothing better as the tradeoff of panic attacks and not sleeping is worth it being a little harder to orgasm, but it would be nice if there was something else.... I am female BTW.
3 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoMigraine with Aura question?
Hi, I get migraines regularly. I get auras (visual disturbances) with them. Until now they have always just been a C-shaped sparkly thing on one side of my vision. This morning I got one, only the aura was on both sides of my vision, 2 C-shaped sparkly things mirroring each other. Has anyone else had this? Has anyone else had their migraine auras change after years of being pretty much the same? Thanks!
