  • I think that I may have OCD?

Ok. I'm sixteen years old, and a junior in highschool. I guess that I've had little quirks throughout my entire life such as needing to clap once between every piece I played when practising piano, and constantly making a little popping noise (I guess this was around first/second grade) but recently I've been noticing that these symptoms have intensified beyond harmless quirks. In the past few weeks, it's been extremely difficult for me to fight against my urges to have perfect handwriting for my homework, however on tests it's never an issue. also whenever someone doesn't say EVERY letter in words like correctly, or perfect, I HAVE to correct them, even if it's just in my head or under my breath. I also make the same popping noise right after, even though I know it bothers my mom...I just can't not do it. Something else that my dad sometimes playfully teases me about is the fact that the door to my room HAS to be shut a certain way, and I'm the only one who know how. If someone shuts it wrong, I have to go and shut it properly, even if I'm ferling really sick, or about to fall asleep haha. Oh and I also hate the number 13 and multiples of it (I've memorized the first 20 or so and avoid them when I can). For example, when I knit, I always hold my breath from the 13th to 15th stitches on a row, and whenever I write the number or a multiple of it in math. Another habit that's been with me for the past few years is having to keep a certain light on in the bathroom next to my room at all times, even when I'm not in the house. This really didn't bother me too much however, until earlier this week when my mom told me to turn it out before we left fr th day. I couldn't do it, although I was not sure why. It just really terrified meto turn it off. Eventually my mom turned it off herself and told me to stop being selfish to which I started crying because there was nothing I could do about it. It was then that she suspected I might have an anxiety disorder. She talked to my dad and apparently he used to have similar quirks when he was my age but he outgrew them. This makes me hopeful, however sometimes my habits seem so overwhelming...I jay wish I could be normal and not have to force myself up to shut my bedroom door right when I wake up haha. As far as what I might obsess over, I think it's demons and supernatural stuff like that...I do love horror movies and maybe those give me bad thoughts, but I can't stand mirrors because I feel like their a pathway to otherworlds even though it seems silly...And it honestly terrifies me to look at them in the dark...I'm scared that I'll see bloody Mary or something :(. As far as sleeping goes I haven't been able to sleep with my head hout of the covers since about 5th grade...even in the summer! I know that I shouldn't be scared but it's like I can't bring myself to not hide under the covers...haha. Ironically my bedroom is a MESS (I like it that way :D) and I'm in no way a germophobe. I guess I just have some quirks...there a few others as well but I've described the main ones here. I'm worried that I might have OCD just because from some of the research I've done it seems like I have some of the symptoms. I'm wondering what other people think, and if I should seek medical help...thanks!

  • I'm sick and need to do some serious practising on the violin. does anyone have advice?

So I'm going to an orchestra camp this sunday for 2 weeks and for seating auditions, we're required to play 7 excerpts, 4 polished, and 3 at sight reading level. There pretty challenging (from Mathis der Mahler by Hindemith and Overture to Meistersinger by Wagner) and before last week, I had polished three. Last week, however, I was away at a church camp and unable to practice which put me back a few steps. Yesterday i made a 4 hour daily practice plan to make sure I'd be ready, and perhaps it will work. The only problem is that I've had kind of a flu like thing for the past 2 days and it got worse today. My two questions are how do I get rid of this bug quickly, and what's the best way to efficiently learn the excerpts?

  • can someone help me out with physics?

I've tried to solve this problem, but i'm unsure where to start. I have a whole review packet I'd like to complete for my exam to help me review, so i'm not turning this in for a grade, it's only for my help.

    here's the problem:

There is a frictionless ramp with a base of 7.55 m, and a height of 8.10 m. An 11.2 kg block is being pushed on it with 28. N force in the upslope direction. What happens to the block?

(the answer is it slides down with an acceleration of 4.67 m/s^2)

can you tell me how id go about solving this-

    thanks!

  • how long does it take to learn wrist vibrato?

I have been playing the violin for 7 years, and my first teacher taught me arm vibrato. I got used to it, and feel very comfortable with it ( can change speeds, and the width with no problems). Last year while being evaluated for the Bruch violin concerto, they said my arm vibrato was superb and added to the life of the piece. Just before the summer, my second teacher ( i had been with him for about a year and he primarily uses arm vibrato) said he wanted to teach me wrist vibrato so i might have more flexibility for expression in my peices. He also said most decent ivolinists can do both even if they prefer one to the other. I started excercises this September, and can do it in second position now (though nowhere near the tempo it needs to go). About how long should it be before I will be able to know wrist vibrato well enough to utilize it in my playing?

  • how do I start Pajama Sam?

so my four year old sister is wanting to play pajama sam 1 on her hand me down computer but I'm having problems starting it up. It's a very old Macintosh (Macintosh PowerBook G3) and we've played other games by humongous entertainment in the past succesfully with no problems (like Freddi Fish) Whenever I put the disk in, an icon looking like a CD titled Pjsam comes up and when I click that it displays information, however I understand when the disk is inserted it's supposed to go directly to the menu where you can install and play the game. Can anyone help?

  • hardest violin piece?

alright...so i was just wondering today...in your opinion what is the most demanding piece a violinist can play?? and i dont mean just technically of course, like take into consideration dynamics and concentration levels as well. I'm just wondering because i find it wonderful to watch violinists just 'go' and glide all over their instrument, whether the piece be slow or fast. haha it's such an inspiration [i'm a violinist of 6 years, currently working on the Bruch g minor concerto]

so any opinions? more than one answer is great!

  • what's a good estimate for my final height?

ok so I'm 9th grade, 14, girl and 5' 4" right now. I guess i grew mainly in 7th-8th grade [and got more curvy then too], and i started my period last july, 3 months before my 14th birthday. My mom is the shortest person in her family of 6 [4 girls, 2 boys] and she is 5'9" [yes that's not a typo] and my dads the tallest in his family of six [4 boys 2 girls] at 5' 5"[again not a typo]. My mom is 100% swedish and my dad is 50% Mexican, 50% mix of European nationalities. Based on all this information, what do you think my final height will be? I'm perfectly happy at 5'4", but I'm just kinda curious...lol

  • busy schedule?

ok I'm 14 years old and a freshman in highschool...I go to a private highschool where we get about 3 hours a night in Homework. That's not so bad but here's the deal: I play two instruments, and I'm serious about them, definitely majoring in music for college. Piano I started when I was five and i try to get in about an hour of practising a day. Violin I started at 7 and try to get in an hour and a half each day. Obviously, this never works seeing as my school day ends at 3:20 and I have mandatory school sports after for an hour.

On top of this I play year round soccer, and do music theory and orchestra. I have been going to bed around one in the morning every night lately and I have to wake up at six on school days, eight on weekends. I really hate this situation. Can you help me out wiht time management strategies? Please don't say drop anything because music means the world to me and It's almost more important than school to me.

  • my friend seems depressed can you help? [sorry, it's kinda long]?

I have a guy friend who I'm pretty close too,and he seems a bit depressed.I suppose I've noticed it for about the past two months, but I'm kind of worried for him.I don't know why because it doesn't seem like he's going to hurt himself, but I tend to have a good sense of when somethings up.In public, he barely shows signs of depression, except he spaces out sometimes and seems really sad,but then the next second he'll be back with it.I don't think any of my other friends have picked up on it except me,and I feel obligated to help him. He's opened to me once over AIM at about 1:30 in the morning, and he started talking to me about all his issues in his life [he broke up with his girlfriend about 3 months ago,but he's not quite over her yet, and he changed schools at the beginning of the year, but then switched back].He says he's entering a new phase, and like told me he's preppyish on the outside, but slightly emo inside.I can somewhat relate, and I just want to let him know I'm open to talk.
