  • Where do people look for local computer support?

I have a full-time job that is not entirely stable and I have been doing small business and home computer support part-time for several years and my customer base is entirely word of mouth. As the full-time job is as likely to be outsourced as it is to stay State-side, I am considering building the business into a full-time venture. This would likely mean investing in some advertising and I am trying to decide where to spend it. Does anyone actually see newspaper advertising? Or those diner place-mats? Should I spend the cash for a direct mail campaign, Google ad or just buy a spot in the phone book and join the chamber of commerce?

If you were looking for computer help, where would you look?

  • Is farming with horses considered green or do their methane emissions offset the carbon savings? :-)?

I'm curious where both sides of the eco-argument come down on it. And is it evil to exploit the animals this way? Is making horses pull plows is cruel?

  • Does Y!A need a ? button next to the thumbs up/down? ?

I mean, honestly, do you understand half the answers you read? There's a lot of gibberish out there. I can only assume that they're just looking for an easy couple of points. I want to be able to click on a button that says "what the heck does this answer mean?"

  • Why doesn't Yahoo! Answers spell checker recognize Obama?

I mean, seriously, it's constantly trying to change Obama to Osama. Does McCain own a controlling interest in Yahoo! stock or something?

Mind you, I don't like Obama, but I'm getting tired of having to tell the spell checker to ignore his name.

  • What do medical professionals think about Universal Healthcare?

We hear politicians, media types and business people talking about it, but I don't see a lot of info from doctors, nurses, etc. I know Dr. Ron Paul's against it, but he's an abberation in politics, so I don't see why his views as a doctor would be normal. Please cite your sources or experience.

  • Does TVP count as a vegetable, or protein on the food pyramid?

And is the food pyramid valid? I've heard off and on that it was of no value, then it's great again. What's the latest?

  • More efficient to leave a boiler on all day to maintain water temp or heat water again at night only?

I have an oil boiler that heats the house and domestic hot water. If I leave it off during the day, the water temp drops from 180 to about 80 degrees F. Does it take more fuel to bring it back up to temp, or to leave the boiler on all day to maintain the water temperature?

  • Should I buy a dairy farm?

My 3 year old son loves tractors, fo no reason I can determine. I am considering buying a working dairy farm in the Adirondacks. It seems like it would be fun for him growing up. I have no idea how to run a dairy farm, so will have to have someone else actually doing the bulk of the work, at least in the beginning.

My concern is, he's only 3 years old. What are the odds that he'll still be interested in tractors in a couple years?

  • Compact Fluorescents (CFL) Mercury in the house?

I'm not particularly concerned with the overall environmental impact of Compact Fluorescents. I'm concerned with what happens in my house when my kid knocks over a lamp with his football. Now, don't get me wrong, I understand he shouldn't be throwing a football in the house; it's just an example. I also have cats and dogs. The point is, if someone breaks one of these in the home, it puts a nice invisible toxic cloud in the air. What's the best way to clean this up without hurting anyone, and how much exposure is dangerous? Advice welcome and appreciated.
