  • What is the purpose of "critical infrastructure" being online?

Lately, we've been hearing more and more about the government wanting to be more involved with companies over critical infrastructure protection. My question is: why would a water utility company or a dam operator need to be connected to the internet?

  • Am I responsible for a title after almost 1 1/2 years?

Sold a vehicle to a man 1 year and 3 months ago. He just called the other day because he went to register it and they said an affidavit of correction was missing. Fortunately I make copies of everything and surprisingly the county clerk accepted the copy (don't know if the state will though)

However, say someone does actually lose their title after that long. Are we legally responsible for that? We're a used car dealership and the customer paid cash. When they pay cash we fill out the title and hand it to them.

I did have one instance where a man came back 2 years later and said he went to prison and lost the title and never registered it (it was the guy that bought it) and I told him he was SOL.

    Dealer only answers please.

  • Can federal government come in and retry a corrupt judge?

I live in Knoxville, Tenn. Over the past few weeks we found out that a criminal court judge was buying drugs from drug dealers in drug court, doctor shopping, and was extremely high while on the bench presiding over many murder and rape trials. A special judge appointed by the state came in and granted new trials for 4 people convicted of raping, murdering and torturing a young couple. They are also granting a new trial for a notorious child rapist. But that's not all, they have said that potentially a thousand or more will receive new trials.

In the meantime, the state issued a special judge (retired) as well as a special prosecutor (retired) to handle the judge's trial: they plea bargained. There was a 1,500 page investigative report on the judge by our TBI that was sealed [the special prosecutor had access to all 1,500 pages at the time]. The judge received judicial diversion - so if he doesn't get in trouble in 2 years he has nothing on his record and keeps his $4,500 per month pension. After the judge pleaded the TBI released about 150 pages of the 1,500 page report which detailed many of the crimes the judge committed while presiding over these trials.

Question is, can the federal government come in and help us out and retry this judge?

  • California Dealers Pulling History Reports?

I'm a dealer in TN. I was reading the news last night and saw there is a new law in California that requires dealers to pull history reports on their used cars. Not through AutoCheck or CarFax, but for reports generated from info through the NMVTIS. So I went over to a suggested site by the DOJ, checkthatvin.com and saw they were only $3.50. Now that's pretty cheap so I pulled several. And honestly, it's the same info you would get by looking at the title and mostly, not even as much info. 2 of our vehicles for sale had no reports available - which makes me wonder, if it's a requirement and there's no report - how does that work. We also have a van which has, on the front of the title under remarks, "Not Actual Mileage." Pulled the report on that one and it's showing that the mileage is accurate.

So, what do you all think about this sillyness?

  • What the Hell is Wrong With People?

I had a girl come in yesterday with about 5 guys and she said she bought a car from me just under a year ago and the transmission went out. She wanted to know if I'd buy it back (and she didn't have it with her of course). I told her I remembered the car, but I didn't sell it and did not know her and that was not last year. So I told her no, but if she wants to trade it in she can. Then she wanted to test drive some cars, but I really didn't want them driving anything since they looked shady as hell so I told them to come back in an hour when the owner was here.

Well, she never came back and I went through all of last years sales and the car wasn't there. I went all the way back to August 2009 and seen that the owner sold it to an older couple.

So my question is: what the hell is wrong with people? Did this girl think that the dealership warranties an 8 year old car that was sold as-is to anyone that owns it after the person we sold it to? Or was she trying to pull something?

  • Do you all really register cars at the DMV?

I'm a dealer in Tennessee and all the questions on here I always see people saying to register the car at the DMV. I had my first person in here recently ask me if they register there car at the DMV and it made me wonder, what states do that?

In Tennessee you get your license at the DMV. You register your car at a county clerk or at the court house, but never at the DMV - they would just look at you crazy.

So what states do you register the vehicle at the DMV?

  • Guy wants money for repairs to his vehicle?

First, I know what the answer is. I just want to share my experience and hear the goofy answers that will surely come up:

Sold an SUV about 3 weeks ago. The guy called and said the transmission was acting "funny" so he brought it to a trans shop and they put a new solenoid in. He said he drove it and it was doing the same thing so he brought it back and they said the new solenoid was faulty so they fixed it again and now it drives fine.

He said he talked to his lawyer and the lawyer told him about the "30-day lemon law on used cars" [I cannot make this stuff up, but he obviously did) and that I owe him $400. I explained that I'm a car dealer and that I know he's making this stuff up. I told him that the way he went about telling me this is ridiculous and that if I was to help him out in any way I know I'll have problems with him down the road regardless of what happens.

He then said he'd talk to his lawyer and have him send me paperwork and I told him that's the smartest thing he can do.

  • How do I get chargeback fee from the customer?

I just received my first chargeback from my merchant service provider. It says the customer does not recognize the transaction. The customer placed the order several months ago and even called a couple days after to make sure it shipped. I have the online receipt, billing and shipping match, I have the Delivery Confirmation showing it was delivered, and I also have the phone records showing that the customer called me. The order total was only $9.03, but I was charged $15 for the service provider to handle the case. How do I go after the customer for the $15? I know it isn't much, but I'm pissed.

  • Would a SSN start with a 0?

I had a customer come in and fill out a credit application to send to a finance company. I didn't send it because I checked the app and seen that she is in bankruptcy, but it also says that her Social Security Number starts with a 0. Does anyone who is still alive have a SSN that begins with 0? Is that possible?

  • Any salesmen ever deal with rude customers?

We've all seen the questions of customers asking about rude salesmen, but it happens to us too. Anyone have any stories? My favorite is the woman who had to have 4 sets of keys at the same time and revved the cars up until it sounded like the engine would blow and then tried to leave with a set of keys.

Not an actual lemon, but a car referred to as a lemon.

  • What should the outside temperature be when adding freon to a car?

I was told it should be at least 70 degrees outside before adding freon to a vehicle. I was wondering if this is true. This would be done outside and not in a garage.
