  • What would be a good GPU to go with this "gaming computer"?

    http://www.adorama.com/CYGUA470.html

My friend currently purchased this gaming computer (not sure why he couldn't wait to get better parts) but we couldn't find too much information about the computer and the chipset until we found the mobo name in the bios and found out the CPU that is on the mobo is a AMD a6 6400K FM2 socket (not the FM2+ socket).

The main upgrade we are going to get for it is the AMD A10 6800K and a 750 watt power supply to go with it.

the PCIe slot is a x16 but its a 1 x16, not a 2 x16 or 3 x16 so we know if we get a powerful GPU it won't really be used to its full potential due to the bandwidth restriction on the slot; and we have heard that some Graphics cards that are stronger than the AMD r9 270 do get bottlenecked from the CPU we are going to get for it.

Another thing, he will be doing his gaming in 720p resolution, so nothing to the extreme and it is preferred that we get an AMD GPU.

Also I will simply ignore any hateful or condescending comments about this current build not being very good.

  • how do i underclock a GPU?

So I purchased a nvidia GTX 770 2GB superclocked and the card usually runs around 1080-1100 mhz range and right now it was a pretty hot day and the fans on the GPU were getting pretty loud despite not running anything graphics intensive (mostly playing games like Team fortress 2 and payday 2). I was wondering if underclocking might reduce the temperature on the card and still keep its performance since this card does a lot more justice than I thought.

  • How much of a power supply do i need?

So for this build, the budget is pretty expandable and I'm in no rush to get the parts.

I would like some recommendations for wattage on power supplies, I don't wanna buy a power supply that is 1000 Watts and doesn't end up using more than 500 Watts or buy a power supply that doesn't supply enough power.

    Parts:

    -Intel core i7 4770K

    -Nvidia GTX 770 4GB

    -G.Skill Sniper 16GB Ram (2 X 8GB) DDR3 1866 MHz, Cas Latency: 9

    -One ASUS optical drive (DVD-R)

    -1TB 7200RPM HDD

    -Motherboard: MSI GD-65.

Not too sure if the fans on the case add to the wattage of the power supply but I am getting a Cooler Master HAF XM and it has 4 sets of fans for ventilation

Also: Many people are telling me to get a better graphics card or just to get the 2GB version of the 770, I am going to do some video editing and much later (probably when Nvidia moves into the end of the 800 series and starts on the 900 series) on I probably am planning on getting a second or third GTX 770 for an SLI configuration. I am not going to do an SLI immediately or run Crysis 3 maxed out.

  • is panhandling illegal in schools (California)?

So I went to lunch and after that I went to the library so I could get some studying done and while walking there a guy stopped me, he wasn't homeless (at least he didn't look homeless) and he asked me for money with the reason that his car broke down and he needed gas. However, I told him I couldn't help him, and he continued to persist and tell me if I could let him borrow my credit card (I'm not an idiot, I don't even trust friends with my credit card) and I told him no. I was starting to get a lot of anxiety as this guy continued to ask for money so I gave him $5 just to leave me alone, then he left.

I then realized it was the same guy who asked me in the fall 2012 semester with the same exact story. I already know panhandling is illegal on public transportation but is it illegal on school campuses.

BTW: this is in a university in san francisco.

  • Would a 750 watt PSU be good enough for this computer build?

I already know what type of power supply I will need for the case I'm getting but I need to know how much wattage I will need, here are the specs.

    -Intel core i7 4770K

-8Gb of DDR3 ram in a dual channel set (2 X 4GB set) clocked at 1866 MHz with a cas latency of 8

-Nvidia GTX 780 (it has 3 fans on it) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    -2TB 7200RPM hard drive

    -DVD rom drive

    -MSI GD65 motherboard

The case I'm getting (HAF 922) has 4 sets of fans that can be installed to assist with the airflow, and I was planning on installing all the optional fans to make sure the system is properly ventilated

so will 750 watts be good enough or will I need more, I will also make sure to buy the 80 plus gold certified.

  • Coolermaster HAF 922 question (power supply question)?

For my build, I'm getting a coolermaster HAF 922 for the reason of good airflow through the case, and the price is also good.

However, my main question is the power supply. does it have to be modular? or will the average power supply from newegg be good.

I'm also getting a 750 PSU, its the size of the PSU i was mostly worried about.

  • is there a difference between PCIe 3.0 and PCIe 3.0 x16?

So, while I was browsing newegg for video cards, I found from the slots that there are PCIe 1.0, 2.0. 3.0 and 3.0 x16

is there really any difference between PCIe 3.0 and 3.0 x16.

My motherboard says it supports 3.0 x16.

  • Would more fans on a video card be better?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    and

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

The first one has 3 fans on it and the second one mentioned has only 1 fan.

the problem I have is deciding which one to get, they both cost the same but the card with only one fan has a slightly higher core clocking speed compared to the card with 3 fans. I was considering possibly doing a 2 way SLI with these cards later on, so would the card with 3 fans be good if I am intending on doing a 2 way SLI later?

  • What OS would you recommend for a gaming computer as of today?

So I am building a computer and I wanted recommendations from the public.

    Should I get a Windows 8 OS or a Windows 7 OS?

Also I probably might get a retail version of these OS'

also does it matter if I get a "premium", or "ultimate" edition? because I'm going to just use these for games. Or do these different versions of the OS provide any benefit for games or just a home edition would be needed?

  • Would you recommend this processor or something stronger?

I'm building a gaming computer and I want it to have a intel core i7, I understand most intel i7's tend to have a lot more power than needed for games so I won't need to worry a lot about having to overclock the CPU or worry about having to upgrade the CPU for a good while but I found two i7's that have about a $40-$50 difference. which would you recommend?

    $289.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    $324.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

Apparently the one that 324.99 can be overclocked from what I am hearing, but in all honesty, I don't really care if my games run higher than 60 FPS, if it can achieve a good FPS without being excessively choppy then I'm happy.

Preferably I would choose the one that is 289.99 mainly because I don't want to spend too much since the video card is the most expensive thing on my list of parts to buy. But will I need the 3770K to run games like battlefield 4 or Skyrim on max settings?

  • is this a good video card? and will it work with this motherboard?

    Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

First question: is this card compatible with the motherboard (I do have the ports for the card, I just want to know if it will work without issues)

second question (only applies if the answer is yes to the first question): is this a good card or should I get a better card? the 3 games I have in mind that might be dependent on this video card would be elder scrolls: Skyrim, Battlefield and probably Crysis? would it run those games at maxed out settings?

I'm going to put a intel core i7 3770 (LGA 1155) and 8 (probably 16GB) gigs of ram but would the video card be good enough to run most high end games on max settings? I don't mind spending a little more on a video card if needed but I don't want to buy the most expensive video card but neither the cheapest.

  • team fortress 2 question regarding specs?

So I have a laptop with a intel core i7 (2.8 GHz) and 8GB of ram on the computer, I went on the "can you run it" website and it told me I can run the game but is probable considering the OS being windows 8 but some people have confirmed it works just fine. But here is the confusing part, I looked on the video graphics information and it says I have 1.6GB of video ram and it says it will run but when looking at another game like lets say "killing floor" it says I cannot run that game because I have only 32MB dedicated video ram when the minimum needed is 64MB. So what specifically does this mean when it says I can run team fortress 2 perfectly but I cannot run Killing Floor?

  • what is (2) X (Sqrt3/2)?

so in my class, I'm dealing with the Double and half angle formula and so far what is killing me in this lesson is how we are supposed to multiply this, I forgot how we are supposed to multiply this out. the example shows (2) X (Sqrt3/2) X (1/2) but no work is directly shown which if you think of it this way the 2 and 1/2 in the question kinda cancel each other out and the answer ends up being (Sqrt3/2) [like the cosine value of Pi/6]

I'm asking specifically how we are supposed to multiply (and if you can provide an explanation it will be perfect) (2) X (Sqrt3/2)

  • would this electric guitar string set be too tight for half step down (Eb tuning)?

So I'm getting another guitar (LTD viper 256) and I'm planning on keeping that one tuned to Eb, this guitar has a scale of 24.75 and I was wondering if 11-49 is good enough or if it is excessive tension (and by excessive tension, I'm referring to needing a truss rod adjustment), my other options in mind were 10-48 or 11-48 (ernie ball power slinkies)

  • if fireworks are illegal in a city, why are they sold there? (California)?

So Hayward (bay area in california in specific), fireworks are illegal, but in a neighboring city (union city) there are like 3 sets of booths there and fireworks are illegal there as well, so why are they allowed to be sold in those cities?

  • Edge-Zero II floyd rose tremolo question?

So I'm restringing the guitar and when I bought the guitar it came with 9-42 gauge strings but I am changing them to 10-46 gauge strings, so I am tuning it to standard right now and the bridge is rising, I know you have to adjust the springs located in the back of the guitar but do we need to add more spring tension or reduce the spring tension? will I also need to do anything else or just adjust the springs before tuning it all the way to standard?

Oh if this helps, I have an ibanez rg450dxb, The specs are on the link

    http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/u_eg_page13.php?d...

I also looked on youtube about the Edge-Zero II and some people say there is a thumbwheel on the board on the back of the guitar but my ibanez does not have that thumbwheel.

  • Replacement Pickups question.?

So, I got some replacement pickups that I chose for my liking and looking at the stock pickup specs and comparing them to the new pickups I bought, I seem to notice that the new bridge humbucker I bought is slightly hotter (not significantly) by the dc resistance but the thing is, the new pickup I bought is ceramic and the stock pickup on the guitar has an alnico magnet.

So in general do you think there will be a significant difference between the pickups,

Stock Pickup: Bridge INF4 - 8" Wire Length; 15.62k Ohms; 2-1/16" Pole Spacing, Alnico magnet

Replacement Pickup: Dimarzio x2n, 4 conductor wiring, 15.83k Ohms, "dual blade pole pieces", Magnet: Ceramic

  • Guitar restring question on a Edge Zero Tremolo?

So i got an Ibanez rg450dx and it has a edge zero tremolo. At the moment I want to change the strings I have on them to 10-46 instead of the stock 9-42 gauge, and with the 10-46 I am going to keep the guitar tuned to standard. Can anyone tell me what am I going to have to do to set up the guitar to use 10-46 gauge strings?

  • Bay area bart train question - is panhandling illegal?

this is a question that has been bugging me whenever I see this happening on the bart train.

Is panhandling on the train illegal? because the other day there was a panhandler and it was a woman with a baby strapped on her chest with dirty clothes and slightly dirty face (i'm pretty sure she was using the baby to appeal to the people with emotion and make them feel bad she has to take care of a baby) and then there was this relatively aggressive panhandler on the train, he sometimes poked people to get their attention but most of the time just spoke very loud when entering the next train car saying he needed spare change and then when we arrived at the next two stations from where the relatively aggressive panhandler was at, the train stopped for about 5 minutes at lake merrit and the police came in shouting and asking people if they have seen a man panhandling money on the train.

so this is where it begs the question, is panhandling on the train illegal?
