  • Buying a betta online?

The bettas at the Petco and PetSmart stores I've been to seem to have all sorts of problems and I'm not 100% I'd be purchasing a healthy fish. I looked around online and I found out you can actually purchase a betta and have it shipped to you! I initially laughed at this - and then worried because, I mean, with the horrors of shipping these days thanks to the pandemic, I'd worry about the poor thing showing up dead and then I'd also be out $30+ - but it's recommended that I find reputable betta breeders. I've found a few but don't really know how "reputable" they are, seeing as I'm a stickler for reviews.

Have you ever purchased a betta online? If so, what was your experience and who would you recommend?

     Thank you!

  • Best tank for betta?

Okay so I've been researching and researching but every time I think I've found a good tank that's safe for a betta, there's a review that says "NOT SAFE FOR BETTAS" Lol! So I'm getting super frustrated here.

I've owned bettas before but it was a long time ago! I was younger then, too, and didn't do the research on things like I do now. So I could really use some help on which tank is best for a betta - or which filter I should buy and maybe just add to a tank? It seems the biggest problem I'm running into is filters - being too strong, tearing up fins, etc.

Any and all recommendations would be highly appreciated! Thank you :)

  • I have a clear face? What does this mean?

There's been about five different people who have told me that I either have a clear face or a clear complexion. Usually, when they say this, I have a couple of zits or weird bumps on my skin that look like zits under the surface or something. My skin is soft but it's not smooth - you can see the pores on my cheeks and nose if you're really close.

I know they're not being mean or sarcastic because of the look on their face when they say it.

And all five of them were older women (late 50s to early 70s is the age group of them). Maybe they're thinking about the days when they were younger?

What do they mean when they say this? Do I have a wholesome face? Do they mean I look innocent? I have no idea what they mean. It better not mean I look "virginal" - I'm getting sick and tired of being accused of that lol

  • Gaited saddle for a hard-to-fit horse?

My horse has a short flat back, wide belly and low atrophied withers. I've spent the netter part of this week tearing apart Google and Bing looking for a saddle that suits my mare's needs (rounded skirt, wide flex tree) as well as my own (seat size and color) and I've come across a few but my budget seems to be limiting me to synthetic/nylon saddles, unfortunately. I am not a fan of synthetics but if it must happen, it must. I'll deal. A synthetic/nylon shall do for now 'til I can save up for and buy a Circle Y or Big Horn.

As I've looked through dozens of websites at hundreds of saddles, I've come across gaited saddles (like High Horse El Campo Cordura Gaited Trail Saddle) and have read reviews where people have used them for their hard-to-fit horses and how surprised they were it worked since their horse wasn't actually gaited.

I found this interesting. Would a gaited saddle work on my not-even-a-little-bit-gaited-but-pain-in-the-***-to-find-a-saddle-for horse?

I'd appreciate any advice or help! I'm up to my ears in saddles and would really appreciate some help. The headache is unreal hahahah

  • Does this guy like me?

(Long post, guys --- I'm trying to give as many details as possible without smothering you too much)

I feel ridiculous asking this question but it's driving me crazy. My parents and my brother are saying he does like me but, you know, they're my family. They could just be saying that, you know? I trust my mom's judgment but - let's face it - moms are biased. A mother's child could have three eyes and eight arms and she'd think he was the most beautiful person on the planet :)

Anyway, I've known this guy - John - for a little over a year now ever since I began to board my horse at his parents' ranch. Since the first day I met him - when his father, John Sr, gave me a tour of the ranch - I kind of got the feeling he MIGHT like me because I caught him looking at me a few times and then he'd look away. I brushed it off since I've never really been the prettiest girl in the world. Nor the most outgoing. So I've always thought I didn't have much going for me to get a guy's attention.

Off and on throughout the year we've exchanged small talk but, honestly, we haven't spoken much. We're both quiet and reserved by nature. I've got a lot of shy and awkward moments and, after today, which is what has been bugging me, John is definitely just as shy as I am. Whenever I'm at the ranch he ALWAYS waves and says "Hey Brittany" (literally the same thing every time), making sure to always acknowledge me and, frankly, I was surprised at first that he even knew my name.

  • Valerie as a "nickname" for Valentina?

    Yay or nay?

Please, for the love of all that is holy, be respectable about your answer - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Which, if you have conveniently forgotten, is the BASIC polite behavior all mothers taught their CHILDREN. So if you're immature and juvenile and like to be a bully on the INTERNET where you don't need guts to be a shithead ********, just a strong streak of cowardice, go busy yourself and stop making everyone else's lives miserable.

Thank you and have a nice day

  • Home remedies for vulvar dermatitis in female dog?

I've got a very random question to ask you but I'm just trying to find different ways to help my dog and hoping one of you fine people know of a good home remedy that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

My three-year-old Border Terrier/Pit Bull mix has vulvar dermatitis due to a hypoplastic vulva. Basically, my poor girl's got an infection in her nether regions because some genius veterinarian spayed her at only 8 and a half weeks old. It's left her lady bits recessed - it's hidden inside a type of cocoon of skin and fur rather than slightly protruding outward (weird way to describe her situation, I know, but it's the best I've got lol). I don't blame the people at the shelter we rescued her from since it seems to be something not everyone knows, including myself. But I do blame the vet, who knew better. I mean, she went through seven years of school and three to four years of residency. How can a vet NOT know about these things?! So, suffice it to say, someone's getting their butt chewed out tomorrow.

I can't afford the reconstructive surgery this is going to require at the moment - it's going to cost somewhere between $600-$700. And that's not even including the painkillers and antibiotics that will be needed post-surgery. I just need a way to manage the infection to reduce her discomfort and chase away the infection.

  • Maggie, Miranda or Jillian?

    *FOR A STORY

    Margaret Kathleen "Maggie"

    Miranda Lynn

    Jillian Tyler

Last name will probably be Conway

It's for a writer in her early thirties with long strawberry blonde hair, fair skin and blue-green eyes. I might change her physical looks to something else but, for right now, she's a strawberry blonde with blue-green eyes.

Adopted at nine or ten and raised in a big family with her other adoptive siblings - four brothers and two sisters.

Always been very smart and athletic. Wise for her years when she was a kid and often called an old soul growing up.

    Thanks! :)

  • Do you guys know any good unisex names?

It would be for a girl. Also for a story. The list I have is good but I'm not really sure I'm happy with any of the choices. So, if you don't know of any good unisex/gender neutral names for a girl (I don't know a lot myself!), maybe just let me know which name from my list you like the best!

    This is my list:

Parker (my favorite so far but still iffy)

Gray (it would be short for Grace)

    Devon

    Jordan

Jude (it would be short for Judith)

Erin (not technically "unisex" but close enough)

So, if you know of any gender neutral / boys-names-that-can-be-for-girls, let me know! If you don't, just pick the name you like best from my list and let me know!

I could use all the help I can get. If you need a description of the character, just let me know in your answer and I will comment below it!

    Thank you! :)

  • Mist system for steel box stall?

I live in Southern California near the Salton Sea where summers are hot and humid. It's getting hot early this year and am putting up a mist system inside my mare's box stall.

Last year, before we moved her into a box stall, she was in a full-sheltered stall with a run and we installed a mist system and had no problems. I honestly can't remember if the mist was continuous for hours at a time or if it shut off after ten to fifteen minutes. My brain is farting at the current moment.

So, the timer we have for the mist system can run for as long as five hours. We thought to have it on from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. I kind of wanted it to run throughout the hottest parts of the day - noon to late evening - but at the same time I'm worried about problems that might arise with CONTINUOUS mist. Should we see if we can time it for 10-20 minutes throughout the hottest parts of the day?

I'm worried about thrush from a constantly wet ground (5 hours worth) and, if we program it periodically, that it will get even more humid and sticky inside her stall than it will already be during the hottest parts of summer.

I'm sorry about the description being so long! We're installing it tomorrow and I wanted to hear y'all's opinion.

Continious for five hours, or periodically throughout the day?

    Thanks! :)

  • Lower back pain that s also in the right side toward my hip?

I have a bad back. I do. Four years ago I fell off my horse and landed straight down on the ground inside the arena - which was very bad footing and it was basically like concrete, it was so hard - and ever since then I ve had back problems. Can t do heavy lifting for long periods of time or run or anything too strenuous. I ve had about five or six "episodes" in the four years - which is basically my back flaring up or being thrown out or something. I really honestly don t know what causes the episodes or what it even is.

I m a big chicken and put off going to the doctors and/or hospital until I literally cannot stand the pain anymore. Basically, it s getting to that point right now but I m still finding every reason to put it off. I am curious about what it is and am wanting to see if maybe you guys know what it is. Of course, I ll still go to the hospital and/or doctor s office if it doesn t calm down in a couple of days.

So, it started completely out of blue with the usual severe back pain. Weakness, tender to the touch, lots of pain. Can t get comfortable because it constantly hurts. There s also a characteristic "lump" or "knot" when this happens. My mother feels it and I know it to be true whenever I accidentally roll onto my back at night and feel something shifting in my lower back. A vertebrae? Disc? Nerve moving the muscle? No clue.

  • Anyone know how to invent an alien language?

I'm writing an alien invasion story and they're winning at first and have even gone as far as "joining" the two races - kind of putting their essence inside the human's brain and interlocking their DNA - and send those "soldiers" out to assassinate the remaining humans when they find them. One of those soldiers falls in love with a human girl.

Anyway, I kind of want an alien language for them to speak and I honestly have no freaking idea how to even begin to make one up. Do you guys have any ideas on what could help?

The alien language won't be through the entire story but there will be little snip-its and the soldier alien who falls in love with the human girl soldier calls her by affectionate endearments in his language. So, yeah, that's my problem lol

Any ideas, guys? I'm at a loss.

    Thanks!
