Jumping a car but attaching the cables wrong?
I was out of the country for three months and just returned yesterday. Since my car was sitting for that amount of time, the battery was obviously dead (the car is a '97 Camry XLE). The battery was pretty much brand new, just bought a few months before I left.
I asked my housemate to jump my car, but he accidentally attached the cables incorrectly - he attached them to the negative posts of both cars first. We realized the mistake before starting either car, and fixed it.
BEFORE I asked him to jump the car, I tried starting it for myself, and it made the clicking noise while the key was turned. Afterwards, when the cables were attached correctly and we were trying to start it, the car did not make the clicking noise, and didn't start after five minutes.
He did some googling, which said if the other car wasn't started, the most that could've happened is frying the cables or blowing a fuse in the car. I called my parents, though, and they said that it probably blew the alternator and if I'm lucky, it might've spared the computer.
I'm just looking for more opinions about what might've happened. Because I'm fairly busy today, I can't call AAA to get it towed for another few hours, and it'd be nice to know a little better what to look for before I go into the shop.
Thank you!
6 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs9 years agoPurchasing a prepaid phone with Softbank for a 10 week stay?
I know that the law says I will need an alien registration card in order to purchase a phone in Japan. The problem is, because my stay is only for 10 weeks for a school program (we will be using the 90 day tourist visa), I won't have any of the documents necessary to purchase a phone in Japan.
I was thinking of asking a friend who lives in Japan if she could purchase the phone for me (I will of course provide the money for it, and I will purchase the phone cards myself). I'm looking at Softbank's prepaid plan. If I were to do this, what would she be responsible for on the contract? Because everything is prepaid, I'm not sure what it will entail, seeing as I will be paying for everything in advance.
6 AnswersJapan9 years agoAre these the right simplified characters for a name (Chinese) and question on tones?
In my Mandarin class (very beginning), we were told to choose Chinese names for ourselves. The website I used to choose a name only had them in Traditional characters, though, and we're going to be learning Simplified. So, this is the name I chose:
貝康靈
Are these the right Simplified characters for the above?
贝康灵
Also, what are the tones for these characters? The name generator didn't say the tones.
2 AnswersLanguages10 years agoLooking for browser games?
I'm looking for some good online browser games. Ones I've enjoyed have been:
Omerta
Renaissance Kingdoms
Slavehack
Forumwars
etc.
I'm looking for something unique, so the usual mafia or fantasy games that are just cut and paste from each other is not quite what I want.
Any suggestions?
6 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoEyelid twitching is driving me crazy!?
It's been a week or so now, and my upper right eyelid has been twitching almost constantly. At first it was rare, but now it's twitching about every five to ten seconds (no exaggeration) and it's driving me absolutely bonkers.
I've done some research on blepharospasm, and I wanted to see if there's other possible answers. My eyes do not completely close when they twitch. I've slept plenty (it was doing this over the weekend too, and I slept in late those days) and I'm not particularly stressed.
If it makes any difference (it didn't anywhere I read online, but just in case), I'm severely nearsighted (my eyedoctor predicts 20/1000 eyesight. It's too bad to measure in that fashion) and I wear glasses. My eyes aren't dry or irritated.
Help!
