  • Can a doctor lie to a patient and get away with it?

I was just wondering, what kind of things are out there that might prevent a medical doctor from out-right lying to you?

Sure, there are malpractice lawsuits, but you can't just simply file a lawsuit and punish them if there weren't any monetary damages, right?

  • Can diabetes or thyroid problems cause osteoarthritis?

I spoke with a doctor today, and she told me that they don't cause osteoarthritis.

Is that true, or do they actually cause osteoarthritis to occur?

    Please provide sources.

  • Is anyone else becoming frustrated with doctors?

Am I the only who's getting this feeling? We pay them so much money, and for good reason because their job is hard and they're supposed to improve the quality of our lives.

But, doctors don't always improve people's lives. Some do things that are dishonest but are not always caught. Or, some just don't do a good job at all. Some deliberately lie to their patients to make money off of them. And, since their patients are ignorant and wouldn't know if they were lying to them, they can get away with it.

  • How does the amount of income a person makes have any effect on the carbon footprint that person has?

I don't get it. When you calculate your carbon footprint, you consider things like the number of miles you drive to places within a year, and how much electricity that you uses which I agree with. But, then it seems that you're also supposed to consider your household income when calculating your carbon footprint, which doesn't make any sense to me.

How does the amount of money you make have an effect on the amount of greenhouse gases that you, as an individual, produce? Maybe greenhouse gases were expelled in the process of you making your money, but wouldn't that factor in the carbon footprint of whoever was your source of income instead?

  • What kind of bug, if any, am I dealing with?

I tend to get an itchy sensation in bed, only a few minutes after laying there. I get the sensation that a bunch of little critters are crawling on me and I get itchy all over. BUT, no visible bite marks.

I get out of bed go take a shower and the sensation is gone. However, if I go right back to bed, I'll get that same sensation.

I ruled out bed bugs, because I've had bed bugs before, and those bugs are pretty big. Plus, they leave visible bug bites, whereas these things don't leave bug bites. These things, whatever they are, seem to be invisible.

I researched Restless Leg Syndrome, but this sensation is all over my body.

Another possible problem I've researched is bird mites. But, I don't have any birds near by that I know of.

I've unloaded bug bombs in my apartment to kill these things, but they don't die. I keep getting this almost every night. I'm wondering if I'm losing it, but back home at my parents' house, I've been getting this sensation there as well. And, my mom experiences this as well. So, I know that I'm not the only one.

I think that bird mites might be very likely, but I've used pesticides to try to kill these things, but nothing is working. I think that they live in the carpets of my apartment and wait until I lay in bed to come get me.

  • Why does Adderall increase your heart rate?

According to my research, norepinephrine can cause increased stimulation of cardiac tissue when isolated. However, since it stimulates the vagus nerve it actually slows the heart rate. What results is brachycardia or low heart rate.

Yet, when pre-treated with atropine, norepinephrine can also cause tachycardia which is increased heart rate.

So, what is it about Adderall that would cause the heart rate to go up? Did they put something into it to prevent brachycardia? Or, is there something that happens to your body when the amphetamine salt combo enters your body that causes an increased heart rate?

  • Why does Adderall Increase Blood Pressure?

I was just reading, norepinephrine causes the blood vessels to widen. But, Adderall causes blood vessels to constrict, right? Why? If it's increasing the amount of norepinephrine in your system, then it should decrease blood pressure, right?

  • Can a former employer lie to me and tell prospective employers something totally different?

My former employer and I had an "at-will" clause in the contract for my employment there. Before the probationary period was over, my employment there was terminated.

My former employer told me that their reason for letting me go was because they didn't simply have enough work for me. However, I guess the "at-will" clause doesn't obligate them to give me a reason why behind whey they would fire me.

But, what doesn't this clause cover? Can they fire me if I'm black, or gay, or Muslim or Jewish or anything else without telling me? Can the "at-will" clause allow them to get away with employee descrimination?

And, can they fire me because they thought I was a lousy worker and not tell me about it, but tell other people who call them and ask about me that I was a lousy worker? Can they really just tell me one thing and then tell other people something totally different?

  • Can a former employer lie to me about having been laid-off?

In the state of Virginia, I was working for a company which had an "at-will" clause in the contract that they had me sign. Before the initial probationary period was up, my employer had let me go, according to the HR Director, because they didn't have any more work. There was no mention of suboptimal performance on my part.

However, could they have told me this only to avoid trouble, or are they legally obligated to tell me the truth behind why my employment was terminated?

  • Do I have to pay for COBRA Insurance out of my own pocket, every month?

What's the point of COBRA Insurance if I have to pay out of pocket, the entire insurance bill? I could get my own health insurance from somewhere else, for much less than my last employer? Why would anyone want to do this?

  • What happens if I want to quit my lease on an apartment in Virginia?

I am about to get an apartment in Virginia, but I am concerned about the possibility of being laid off from work and being stuck with an apartment lease. If I got fired from my current place of employment, I think that I would then would like to move back home which is another state and is far away from where I currently work.

What is consequence of simply leaving my apartment and stop paying my rent before the apartment lease terminates? Would I legally be obligated to pay the remainder of the rent? Or, would it simply hurt my credit rating?

  • Is there a web forum with reviews of specific neighborhoods and apartment complexes in any area in the US?

I'm about to move to another town for a future job, and I am looking for apartments in that area. But, I don't want to spend alot of money on rent and I don't want to find myself accidentally moving to a bad neighborhood. Is there a forum online that I can find where I can see other people's reviews of those areas as well as reviews about the apartment complexes themselves?

  • Can you explain this simple algebra problem to me?

I'm studying this GRE prep book that I purchased, and came across this problem:

    (a^2 - b^2)/(a-b)

The book said that it equaled (a+b)/(a-b), but I don't know if that's correct. I think that the answer should be a+b, because

    (a^2-b^2) = (a+b)(a-b)

With (a-b) in the denominator, the (a-b) should be factored out in both the numerator and the denominator. But, the stupid book doesn't do this. Instead they have

    (a^2 - b^2)_____a+b(a-b)___a+b

    --------------- = ---------------- = --------

    ___(a-b)_____(a-b)(a-b)____a-b

Is the book correct and I wrong, or is there something that I've forgotten since middle school that prevents me from seeing how they got this answer?

*Note: please ignore the underscores, Yahoo! Answers tried to get rid of my spaces, so I had to use underscores instead.

  • Do any of the other Battlefield games have Battlefunds like Battlefield Heroes?

I was just wondering, because I have recently started playing Battlefield Heroes because my little cousin got me started on it. After a few weeks of playing, I found myself wanting to buy myself some battlefunds. After the first time, I kept spending on it, more, more. Eventually I spent $107 in a single month! Which makes me feel bad and stupid because you don't spend that kind of money on a free game! I could've gotten a copy of Battlefield 2 for like 8 bucks, and if they DON'T have Battlefunds then I'll even feel more like a moron.

It's nice paying money sometimes, cuz you get to beat up on people who don't spend any money on the game. But, then you realize that they're usually all just kids and then you realize you need to get a life! Anyways, if there's a Battlefield game WITHOUT Battlefunds, then let me know so I can stay away from it in the future.

    Thanks.
