  • What does it mean when an author changes publishers?

    I've noticed that in some cases authors will change publishers e.g. J K Rowling publishing 'A Casual Vacancy' through Little, Brown Book Group, rather than Bloomsbury, who published the 'Harry Potter' series. I have a theory that this is because 'A Casual Vacancy' is aimed at adults, and Little, Brown Book Group might be better equipped for dealing with that kind of audience. But then, I've also noticed it happening a lot with lesser known authors, writing books with similar target audiences. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. I've tried researching this online, but can't seem to find anything.

  • how long would it take to finish the first year of an open university course?

    I'm hoping to transfer to a campus based university for the second and third years, so I'd like to know how long it would take to finish it through the OU so I know which year to apply for. I'm hoping to only work part time alongside the course so I'll have a bit more free time than other Open University students, and I'm a young whipper-sapper of 18 with no kids, so that's a factor as well :P
