  • How rude is it to ask your college professor to break down how he arrived at your final grade?

    A professor gave me a certain grade for a course. When I calculate my grade, it is one letter grade higher (i.e., D to D+) at the least. The only way I could get the grade he gave me would be an D- on the final (which we never got back), which would be virtually impossible, or another improbably low grade coupled with a low class participation (which we don't know) which by itself is very improbable.

    I've never questioned a grade before but I really care about this class, and I need advice on whether I should ask him how he arrived at my final grade or not. I just need to know where I lost the points, and in the calculation by myself there are 3-5 points out of 100 that are missing.
