  • Are you depriving the State of tax money when driving a PHEV under batteries?

    I don't own a car/truck but am thinking of getting one and am leaning towards a diesel because of SVO's. However I read that they are illegal and while I sort of get why the EPA outlaws them (although I do disagree with it), apparently individual States have also added the charge of not paying a Diesel tax if you use them. However, since gasoline is also taxed, shouldn't those charges also be useable against PHEV owners? Your vehicle is perfectly capable of running on taxed gasoline but instead of using it and giving the State money you are driving around on untaxed electricity and aren't paying the taxes you should be.

  • Opinions on electric trikes?

    I am thinking of having a vehicle just so that I don't need to rely completely on mass transit for transportation and don't need to walk everywhere. I don't have a licanse (from what I can tell my state doesn't require a licanse for ebikes but if anyone knows more about Oregon law I'd be interested to hear it) or the money for a car and as a kid I had problems balancing on a bike (i could probably learn it but a trike just seems like a quicker fix, plus I like the storage space). I have a few questions and would like to hear anything else anyone thinks I should know.

    -What's the max speed of a trike when being pedaled by someone reasonably fit?

    -Has anyone had problems fitting them in doorways?

    -If my city has busses with bike racks will they fit in them?

    -How likely are the battery/electronics to get rain damage when riding in the Northwestern US?

    -Do most sellers often also sell batteries alone if I want multiple (one in the trike and one at home charging so I can instantly swap them)?

    -Is it weird for someone not physically disabled to want/own one?

  • political question: Was Pheasant Island still being swapped between "France" and Spain from 1940-1945?

    Just feel like events of that time would have complicated it.

  • Should human civilization not exist according to the Fermi paradox?

    According to the Fermi paradox, because advanced aliens haven't tried communicating with us, they either don't exist or there has to be some specific reason for it (rarity, "dark forest", etc.). However, there are an estimated 100+ uncontacted/undiscovered tribes mainly in the Amazon and PNG. Why are aliens required to contact us when we haven't contacted everyone on our own planet?

  • Does Gamestop offer refunds for unopened PC games?

    I went to gamestop looking for an impulse buy a few days ago. I got one, because it looked like it had features I wanted. Although I haven't opened it to try it out, I have done research on it and have discovered it doesn't have that feature, and I want to try and return it. From what I can tell, their policy says no, but I want to know if anyone has experiance to say for sure.

    Again. PC game, unopened, code still unused.

  • Wifi suddenly locked out 360.?

    I have an Xbox 360 I have had connected to comcast wifi for over 1-2 years. Today after work, I came home and while it could go online and YouTube, it froze a lot and seemed to bounce around a lot between resolutions. I then reset my router, and my 360 is now completely locked out. My other devices (phone, wiiU, Vita, and pc) work fine, but my 360 can't even log in (it connects, but then fails in the network test to reach the network, even though it can somehow still tell if I purposely put in a wrong wifi password), and says it's blocked. I have reset my router once more to no avail.

  • Is there such thing as a wireless USB a to b cable?

    I have a friend who bought a printer and that can only do wireless through wifi, which long story short is unusable where they are. Is there a way to get some kind of wireless USB solution (possibly using some kind of Bluetooth)?

  • Will this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HZWOQZ6/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2KUZVNQ9LP7N9) do what I want it to do?

    Question:

    I know this device can do many things, but I'm wondering if I can use it to connect to wifi and turn it into a wired connection that I can plug into a PC's Ethernet port to get internet.

    Backstory:

    I am making a cheap nettop for a friend, and their room isn't near his router. The machine I made doesn't have wifi (I'm doing it for free out of parts I want to get rid of). It is running Lubuntu, and I can't get any of my USB wifi adapters working due to problems with drivers. I was hoping to find a way to get wifi without needing to install any extra drivers, but I want to know if the device I linked will do the job. I know the Ethernet port works, so I want something that can turn a wifi signal into Ethernet.

  • Is there any (preferably free) software I can use to play HDDVD's on a PC?

    No, that wasn't a typo. I have a bunch of HDDVD'S lying around and may get more soon (they're 1080p and they're cheap), but I want more options for playback than just my 360. I can connect the drive to my PC and it will show the files, but I can't play them. I've heard you can rip them and play them on VLC, but I haven't figured out how and even if I did, I'd much rather just stream them from the disc. I was wondering if anyone had answers to any of these questions:

    1. I heard winDVD9 will do it. Would it work on Windows 7 64-bit?

    2. Is there anything else that can do it and is cheaper than getting winDVD off Amazon?

    3. Could any Blu Ray software play it? If I'm right, they use the same types of files, so would there be a cheap option there or would it not even work?

  • How to install Windows 98 via usb?

    My friend gave me a dell XPS gen. 3. Before I give it away, I was going to see if I could "obtain" Windows 98 and install it to use it for DOS games and early Windows games that won't work easily on 64-bit systems. I was wondering:

    1. Does anyone know where I can find a safe and "free" version of Windows 98, preferably with the latest updates/SP's?

    2. How do I get it into a format that can be booted into and installed via USB (I checked the BIOS and the XPS can boot from USB, so it isn't a hardware issue)?

  • Questions about XPS gen. 3 case?

    A friend of mine wants me to make him a gaming PC. He has an XPS gen. 3, and while I know that most of the machine is outdated, I still think I can make use of the case. I just need to know first:

    1. Can I put in an ATX and/or mATX MOBO in it? I can't tell by looking. It's definitely big enough, but IDK if the skrew holes are in the right places.

    2. Could I fit a modern 500-800MW PSU in it? It seems to have some kind of proprietary Dell PSU with older conbections, and I'm not sure if a regular one would fit.

  • Is there a way to download a video bought from Amazon onto SD card instead of phone?

    I just bought a movie from Amazon. I'm away from my computer now, and want to download it on my phone (Hydro Vibe, Android 4.4.2). When I try, the Amazon video app says it doesn't have enough space. I don't have much internal space, but my SD card has over 20GB free. Does anyone know if there's a way to get it to download there instead?

  • Civilization revolution 2 questions?

    I am a big fan of the Civilization series and revolution 2 is the only one I don't have. I want it, but unfortunately, I don't have anything able to run it. Here are my questions:

    1. Google play says my phone (*Hydro vibe) is incompatible. Any idea why?

    2. Does anyone have any idea when the Vita version is coming to the States?

    3. Is there any way to (legally and without heavy modification) to either run the Android version on my current phone or get the Asian Vita version?

    *Specs=

    Carrier=Sprint

    RAM=1.5GB

    Android 4.4.2

    GPU=Adreno 305 (960x540 screen)

    CPU=1.2GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core (I think msm8960 or msm8926).

  • Windows 10 on core 2 duo t7300, 2gb RAM, quadro nvs 135m (256mb vRAM)?

    I am going to install windows 7 on my dad's XP laptop, and because I'm probably going to do it before July, I'm wondering if I should just go all the way and give him 10. He's mostly going to be watching DVD's, writing in wordpad probably with Windows speech to text, and MAYBE some light browsing.

  • Free and/or cheap speech to text program for XP?

    My father is planning to write a book on his laptop running XP (I told him to upgrade, but he rarely takes it online anyways) and he wants speech recognition software. I was wondering if there were any free options that don't need MS office to work and will work on at least one of these programs:

    Wordpad

    Notepad

    OpenOffice

    Libreoffice

  • Windows 7 starter to Windows 10?

    A friend of mine wants me to make a PC for him, and because we both want to spend as little as possible, I was thinking of getting one of the cheaper versions of Windows 7, say starter or basic, and upgrading it to 10 before July. To my knowledge, there is only one version of Windows 10 and it doesn't have any of the limits that the lowest-end versions of 7 do, yet it is a free upgrade. Will it work and will I have to deal with any of the limits imposed by the version of 7 I upgraded from?

  • Using Windows 7 code twice on separate computers?

    My friend wants Windows 10 on his laptop (it's running vista currently), so I was planning on installing 7 and upgrading. I have an install disc that I used on my gaming PC before upgrading to 8 (not the best decision I ever made, but still), and I was wondering if I the lisance key would still work.

  • Questions about Windows 10 and Cortana?

    My father is thinking of writing a book and was wondering if I knew of any cheap dictation software. I have an extra Windows 7 install disk, and because his laptop has a core 2 duo, I was thinking of installing it and upgrading to 10. I have several questions:

    1. Can I use Cortana as dictation software and if I can, would I need MS office, or could I use her with notepad or other free word-like programs?

    2. IDK if his laptop has a microphone. If I got a cheap external one, would it work with Cortana?

    3. How well does 10 work on low-end systems?
