My uncle found a plumber who came in much lower than everyone else to re-plumb my house. He said he would use his partners license to file the job and that his partner, a master plumber, with much more experience than him would check over his work. I thought it sounded kind of fishy from the beginning but my parents where just thinking about how much less he would cost. We figured as long as the city did the inspection and passed it wouldn't matter who did the job. But then I started to notice how sloppy his work was and he began saying certain things weren't included when he took the job and it would cost more (also I think he's stealing or planning on stealing materials from me because he has me buying way more than it looks like I need). I asked a licensed plumber about what he was doing he told me the only way someone can work on plumbing is if he has his own license or is on the payroll of a licensed plumber. I doubt my plumber is on the master plumbers payroll since the master plumber hasn't come by since the first day. I want to report this guy to the building department but I'm scared that ignorance of the law is not an excuse for breaking the law and that we will get in trouble too because we hired someone like this.

I recently bought a fixer upper and I found what looks like asbestos pipe insulation behind my plaster walls when I was running some new wiring. I opened up the bottom two feet of plaster in every room and there is at least one pipe in all the rooms, about 12 (alleged) asbestos jackets about 8' high. Most of them are in what appears to be OK shape some are crumbling at the edge. I'm guessing removing this much material from the whole house will cost 15-20K. I was just going to put up new sheetrock any way and not open up the floor plan so can I just do that and have an air test done after? Will the insulation give off fibers through cracks in the walls, baseboard for as long as I live in this house?

I want to know if I got a decent deal on someone hauling away some drywall for me. How much would a 20 yard dumpster weigh if it was filled to the top with small pieces of well packed drywall?

I'm thinking about purchasing a house that is in really bad shape. It was built in the 20's and somewhere along the road someone "finished" the basement. It smells horrible down there and I know there is extensive mold even without getting an inspection yet. The whole house is in horrible condition. The walls, floors, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, bathrooms and kitchen are going to be completely redone from scratch. The only thing I want to keep is the framing, layout, doors, and mouldings. Now you may be asking why I want to buy this house, well its because it is a foreclosure selling for $650,000 in a Million dollar neighborhood. I'm thinking about offering $400,000 just to get the land and willing to go up to $500,000 if the house can saved once gutting everything down to studs. Am I naive to think that the mold problem will be taken care of by gutting everything and fixing any moisture issues or is mold an incurable disease that will only go into remission and come back later when I least expect it? On average how much does it cost to have some one get rid of the mold and guarantee it wont come back? The house is about 5000 sqft if you include the basement.

I hope they move more to the center by dropping the religious nuts. I can relate to republicans like Collin Powell who are intelligent. I support obama and think he will make a great president but I don't like the idea of democrats having control over the whole government.

Looks like they can't blame democrats for stopping drilling now. I think this was a brilliant move. I don't think drilling will solve the problem but now republicans cant point the finger at some one else. They said drill baby drill and we said go ahead. President Bush has threatened to veto this so here's another thing we can blame on him.

Honestly he's basically giving democrat talking points: more over sight, more regulation, wall st/corporations have become corrupt, etc. And Sarah Palin basically did a wind fall profits tax in Alaska on the oil companies. Mccain is trying to run on democrat ideals but his policies completely oppose his rhetoric. I honestly think the only reason Obama is not up by much more is because of racism.

Mccain keeps talking about victory. What does that mean? Who are we fighting? We already took out sadam. Getting Al Queda out of iraq wont end the group. Gen. Patreus said he wouldn't use the term victory either. We are not fighting a war where there is a winner and a loser. We are trying to stabilize a nation but how can that be called victory? What do we win?

I think the argument that some raise is that people wouldn't work if they got healthcare for free. I think this is a very stupid argument. Who the hell works for healthcare? Most people dont even think about healthcare until they get sick, and would you really want to force sick people to keep working so they will be covered? Maybe its just me but I work because I want a nice house and a car, etc. So why would government sponsored healthcare ruin America and take away peoples work ethic?

Where does Mccain plan on taking this country! How will a 5,000 tax credit pay for $12,000 insurance bill? How will drilling for 3% oil make up for 25% consumption? How will we get alternative energy from mccain since he is against tax credits for wind and solar? Stop saying that he was a POW so he deserves our vote because he doesn't. He deserves a medal and the veterans benefits that he voted against, that is all.

If Hillary is attacked by Palin while campaigning for Obama will you still support Mccain?

He says vote for me because he was a POW. He says hes for energy independence but is in bed with oil companies. News flash to you republicans we will never get alternative energy if we continue to drill because alternative energy is competition for the oil companies. Nobody who works for the oil companies would create competition for them. Do you people really think john mccain will bring about energy independence? Do you even care? John mccain stands for nothing he will not fix anything.

Looks like that is what the Mccain people are trying to do. Will people vote for her only knowing that she's a hockey mom who knows how to use eBay?

Did anyone else see joe biden talking about the RNC convention today? He was incredible. The RNC spent all of their time bashing Obama and talking about how Mccain was a POW and really didn't say anything about what they will do to fix the damage the bush administration and the republican party has done.

to get my *** over to PA and campaign and register voters for Obama. Palins a nut case. The democrats repeating the line that mccain is a third term of bush is kind of annoying but when I look at Palin I see bush (no pun intended). She is anti-choice, anti stem cell research, doesn't believe in global warming or science. Bush won two terms because of the religious right and I'm going to do everything I can to stop Palin from getting into the white house. I would be a republican if they got rid of the social issues and practiced what they preach about less government but they don't.
