I've been losing my mucus plug for 2 days now, and it's a lot! Is that normal? and, after the mucus plug starts coming out, or is totally out, does dilating and effacement usually start then?

I'm 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant, i've been in 'latent phase" or early labor for 3 days now, and all i'm getting is constant contractions with no cervical change. I am 1 1/2 - 2 cm dilated, and 60% effaced, and baby is at 0 station, so he's dropped down real low... and then today I have been loosing my mucus plug throughout the whole day...so i know i'm in early labor, but how much longer does it sound like it will take, from experience anyone??? any ideas to make things get going a little faster naturally so i can spend the least amount of time at the hospital and most of everything at home, i was told to try evening primrose oil to help the cervix change, but once the plug comes out, doesn't that kind of get things moving?
