  • Why does sugar from chewing gum seem to soothe pain from a cracked tooth?

I recently fractured one of my molars, and the entire back half of the tooth is missing. I don't know how this happened, but I do grind my teeth a lot while sleeping, so I'm assuming this is the cause. Because of this, I have tremendous pain coming from the exposed root/nerve/whatever it is. I have been trying different remedies, including gargling warm salt water, regular doses of Tylenol and Aleve, and clove oil. However, these things seem to have little to no effect. The only thing I have found that helps the pain is chewing gum that has sugar in it. After chewing a fresh piece of gum that has sugar in it, the pain is completely gone for the next few hours.

I am wondering if any of you know why exactly that is? Is it even the sugar in the gum that is soothing the pain, or another additive? Thanks for the answers!

  • What should I wear to my first day as a security guard?

I just got a job as a security officer doing vehicle patrols around different properties, however they haven't issued me a uniform yet and my first day is tomorrow. I am working the graveyard shift, which means the managers and owners will not be there when I arrive (meeting with another employee outside the building). Looking for advice on what to wear, any help is appreciated. Thanks!
