  • Will my employment gap prevent me from getting a mortgage?

My husband and I are hoping to buy a house in the near future. We have decent credit (although my credit history is a short one), a good down payment, etc etc etc, but I'm wondering whether the following will be a problem for us:

I have only been in my current job for three months. The reason for this is that I moved to the US (from the UK) less than a year ago, and could not start applying for jobs until my permanent residency was approved. Before I left the UK, I worked for the same employer for 9 years (and have the paystubs to prove it) - my final paystub from that employer is from May 2007, and I did not start my current job until January 2008. Also, I'm working in an entirely different industry from my previous job, although in a similar kind of role - administration.

Can anyone advise as to what effect this would have on our chances of being approved for a mortgage?

  • Any advice on local staffing/temp agencies in Cincinnati?

I've been looking for work and not having much luck, not entirely unrelated (I'm guessing) to the fact that despite the fact I have a TON of experience, all that experience is in the UK (I moved here earlier this year) - maybe that's part of the reason, anyway. I'm thinking of signing up with a temp agency (although I'd rather find something a bit more long-term than a week here or there), but can't find much information on which local agencies might actually be any good. I'm looking for office/admin type stuff, and at least semi-decently paid. I've heard mixed opinions on Kelly Services, Officeteam, etc, but know that these places can vary from city to city. In the UK, I've had experience with great temp agencies and ones that seem incapable or unwilling to do anything other than amass as many resumes as possible without actually placing anyone in a position.

Any advice or personal experiences? It'd be much appreciated!
