HOw do you get information from a MAC hard drive not in laptop?
Ok, a few weeks ago I turned my macbook on it went to the apple icon, then there was a circle with a line through it. I took it to the apple store, they sent it off, replaced the battery, battery connector, Hard drive and casing. They sent me back my old HD.
I know that I should have backed it up more recently but I haven't. My mom passed away a few days ago and I am desperate to get the photo's off the HD.
Is there a way to do this??
1 AnswerLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoHow does a small business checking affect my tax filing if at all?
Hi, I have a small business, very small, I am a floral designer and event planner, I'm only doing about 8-15 weddings a year rite now, will grow in the future. I am DBA and have my tax ID number. I am hoping to open a new checking account to keep these funds apart from normal household funds, just to keep track.
If I open a small business account, does this affect how my taxes are filed? I live in Michigan if that helps.
2 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoClaiming children on taxes after divorce.?
My question is kind of complicated.
My husband has 2 children from a previous marriage. Their mother took them from their residence 8 years ago. He has paid child support for the last 8 years. She bounced around and he had a hard time keeping tabs on them (she moved 1500 miles away). 4.5 years ago we found out that she had lost custody for drug abuse and custody had been awarded to her mother, the skipped over my husband because his ex said he died while he was in the Navy and he was still paying child support at the time, but like I said they totally skipped over him. (she was a heavy drug user at that point). Rite at this time is when the divorce was being filed and since neither of them had custody there was NOTHING in the decree regarding custody or taxes or anything. We have being trying to gain custody for 3 years but for many reasons we were unable to do so, now it's a financial problem, we don't have the 12K to take her to court for custody which is the estimate from our attorney in her state. In the beginning when we tried, we needed a home inspection, and in our state you can not have a home inspection without enrolling in foster care parent classes and at the time we were both full time college students, unmarried, working part time, we could not enroll.
So now his ex has the children again, apparently her mother could not handle them and just illegally gave them to her. The state of Al says they won't intervene until someone complains about their welfare, but my husband can't get custody with out paying nearly 12K to do so.
So my question is this. He pays for their medical care and he pays child support - she has not held even a part time job for more then 3 months and rarely works, can he claim them on our taxes??
Thank you!
4 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoCan child support arrears be collected while in Chapter 13?
Ok, my husband has child support arrears from while he was in college and was unable to pay the entire monthly amount. Now that he's out of college he's paying his child support which is $371 a month Plus another $92 a month for arrears.
Because the child support was all set the trustee said he didn't have to include it on the chapter 13 when he filed.
Well his ex wife quit her job because they wouldn't let her go on vacation and then went to court to get more of the arrears every month, so from $92 a month all the way to $422 a month for a grand total of $793 a month. This does not fit in to the chapter 13 budget at all.
Apparently she gets state aid so a large chunk of his child support that he pays goes to the state of offset her welfare and what not. (She hates working, is a habitual drug user, we're fighting tooth and nail for custody, but we're out of state and it's very hard at this point, she's lost custody 3 times and they never went to my husband, she told the case worker he was dead, nice I know)
I've heard that they can not legally collect arrears while in the 13, but im not sure if that's correct.
Please don't get nasty about this, my husband is pay his child support and only had arrears because he was going to college so that he would be able to secure gainful employment and support his family more.
2 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoSeeing child after 7 years, would you insist on structured on structured enviroment?
My husband had a child and was married nearly 9 years ago. His ex wife left in the middle of the night nearly 8 years ago and took their daughter. She bounced around and then came back after he pleaded. She returned 4 months pregnant and stayed for 10 months, had the child which is not biologically related to my husband, but he signed the BC and tried to make it work. She took off 2 months after the birth and was awall for nearly 6 years, my husband paid child support to her last known address the entire time. He filed for divorce 5 years ago and completed divorce by publication because her whereabouts of her and the child where unknown. At one point they surfaced about 3 years ago and he found out she was a habitual cocain and heroin user and had been since she was 16 which explains her sketchy behavior. He found out that legal custody had been granted to a grandparent, we attempted to file for custody but had to enter the foster care program, at the time we were students in college and could not enter the program ( he was no longer considered a guardian since the office was told he passed away 4 years prior, even though he paid child support to that office)
Either way, one week ago the mother and children surface again and tell us they are going to be about 20 miles from our home this weekend. She says they want to see him, even though they don't know who he is. She informs my husband that they call her new husband Daddy and not to freak out about it. I should mention she does not legally have the children, and while we reported that to the state inw hich they live they will not do anything until the legal guardian says they are missing.
So she wants to have this meeting. We both feel that this meeting should be set in a structured enviroment with a mediator, not over coffee and dinner. We're thinking this could be very hard for the children to handle, a lot to take in. The mother insists we do this in a public place and is refusing to have them meet in a structured setting. We are going to speak to a psychologist in the morning to get their opinion, but I am curious how other parents might handle this very odd situation.
At first the thought of a nice meeting, where they can meet their little brother and sister ( we have twins) sounds so nice, but then the more I think about it, I think it needs to be in a more structured setting.
The other side of it is, I think it could be really hard to know you were 20 miles away from your father and didn't see him.
I don't put it past the mother to tell them exactly that as well.
Please don't get upset with me about this, I know it's messed up and sad, but really we're trying to do what is best for the children.

2 AnswersParenting1 decade agoBeing sued for negative feedback on ebay?
I know that anyone can sue anyone for anything....but I'm curious if you have ever heard of anything like this, other then the case in the UK.
I purchased a book on ebay using the buy it now option (paid for it immediately) on March 26th, on april 3rd I hadn't received any notification that it had been shipped, I waited 72 hours with no response then I went ahead and left negative feedback for the member, " Item not shipped after 11 days, no communication". Within hours I received a notification from the USPS stating that they should expect the shipment soon, something to that effect, it left the tracking information and said to check back every evening. The seller then sent me a message saying he had written me back when I sent the first message and it had been shipped out that day ( the day of the original message) and demanded that I remove the feedback. For days I check to see if the item has been shipped, finally calling the USPS and asking, I was told that when the receive it it will be updated, at that point it had not been received. The sell keeps sending me messages telling me to remove the feedback. FInally on the evening of april 8th there was tracking information, it was on it's way. The book arrived on april 10th. With in hours of it arriving the seller calls me on my home phone. and starts demanding that the feedback be taken back, he tells me the USPS is wrong, full of ****, not to believe them and on and on. I am fairly nervous with this guy on the phone yelling at me, I was actually in the car with my toddler twins ( calls forwarded to my cellular phone ) I tell him I need to go, and he keeps going on and on. I finally tell him that I'm not doing anything until I speak with my husband and that was that, he tells me that he's sending me a link so that I can change the feedback as well.
I come home check my ebay and realize there's an issue. In order to get another members contact information, it's a trade, I would have gotten his, I didn't have it. So he used my address to get my phone number which I found to be fairly shady. Again there are more messages from the seller demanding I retract my feedback. He tells me he will send me a screenshot showing the original email, I don't respond to that rite away, I checked around the ebay forum and talked with a few members and found out that the screen shots and even photo's can be altered so easily that they shouldn't be trusted. At this point I'm pretty upset with this guy, the messages, the phone call, the overall transaction. He then sends me a message with a link to a news story on www.transworldnews.com.
The man posts my photo and location information on this web page in the form of a news story saying he is suing me over the feedback. I spoke with ebay who assured me I did not need to remove the feedback but if I wanted to change it he would have to initiate the transaction. I notified him of this but he won't do it.
Any ideas on how far this can go or what I should do? I'm meeting with our attorney for a heads up next week, but I'm just kind of curious.
6 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoShould I dress my twins up for a fairly special/awkward situation?
OK so this is random, but I'm curious of other peoples opinions.
This weekend my husband and I and our toddler twins are going to be meeting with his ex wife and my husbands daughter whom he has not seen in 7 years ( mom had a lot of problems with drugs and took off and it's been hell trying to find them) Either way, things are on the road to being better. I am, like any women would me I think, nervous to meet the ex wife. I had planned on dressing the twins in their easter outfits ( Just a cute dress and cardigan and little hat for my daughter and then khaki's, a white linen shirt and a sweater vest that matches her dress for him, nothing fancy fancy) I thought it would be nice if they wore something other then jeans and sweatshirts AND I would get some more use out of their easter out fits then just wearing them last sunday.
I'll be honest part of me wants them to look extra special, I guess it helps me feel on top of my game, if that makes any sense. Also, I'm sure there will be pictures taken by both mothers so I thought they should look nice, not in play clothes.
When I mentioned it to my husband he totally flipped out and told me it was stupid and ridiculous and just jumped down my throat about it, totally not like him.
So My final question, would you dress your kids him and have them look extra special for this sort of occasion??
7 AnswersParenting1 decade agoWhat can I do about an ebay seller harassing me on the phone?
I purchased an item via buy it now, paid for it rite after I clicked buy it now. 8 days after I paid for the item I had till not received any notification of shipment so I left a message to the seller via ebay messages. No reply, 3 days later still no response I left feedback for the item. As soon as I left feedback, within hours I get notification from the USPS that they have have received notification that they should EXPECT the item to be shipped soon, as soon as it is checked in for shipping that new shipping information will be updated to track the package. For a few more days the message is the same, it has not been shipped. At this point the seller is now messaging me on ebay ( I receive all of these messages) he's telling me that he has sent it out days ago and that I HAVE to remove the feedback. I call the USPS and ask about what is going on, they tell me that it has NOT been received for shipping and when it is the tracking information will be updated that evening.
On 8th the package finally shows that it has been sent, I receive it on the 10th. That afternoon the seller Calls my home phone first then my cell phone yelling at me, telling that I NEED to remove the feedback, telling me that the USPS is full of **** and not to believe them, demanding to know what I am going to do about the feedback and that I better get rid of it.
I know that in order to get a contact information from a member it has to be exchanged, I do not have his so that means he used my address to do a back search on my number and call me.
Now he has left me feedback saying that I am untrustworthy and that I lied which is not true. Every other message he has sent me I have received except this elusive one. he wants to send me a screen shot, which can be altered all day long, I don't believe him and after the phone call and what not, I am not retracting the feedback. i am choosing to believe the USPS that it was not shipped when he said it was.
I would like to lodge a formal complaint against this user and I'd like to know what ebay intends to do about it. I also want the feedback removed from my profile as it is untrue.
How can I handle this?
He also posted my picture and location on a webpage saying he was going to sue me and all this other garbage
3 AnswersSmall Business1 decade agoReturning engine short block from ebay sale?
Hi, I am curious what other users feel would be an appropriate course of action.
I listed an engine block a few weeks ago.
In the listing I said "this is a 1972 ERA block...."
I also mentioned that the engine was kept on an engine stand, it had been properly greased and sealed for protection to keep out rust, which we did, even the photo's show that there is no rust.
They buyer paid for the engine quickly and it was a easy transaction.
He sent some friends to come and pick it up. They came after my husband was at work, so rite before he left at 1pm my husband put the engine on an engine hoist so they could load it up. When his friends came to get it they A) dropped the engine 3 -4 inches on to the trailer which could damage some of the internals and B) they loaded it onto an OPEN trailer and did not cover the engine. They then made a 200 mile trip in open air.
One week later the buyer messages me to say that this is not a 1972 engine but a 1974. We said it was from the 1972 era, based on the casting codes from GM which gave a time range of 1969-1979 and the person my husband bought the engine from said it was from between 70-74, he wasn't sure (older man) but he thought it was from a 72 pickup. The buyer says that there is also rust on the engine, I have photo's taken just a week before he purchased it and there is no rust.
I have no way of knowing what he has done with the engine in the last week or where it has been, it could have been on an open trailer for a week in the rain.
Surface rust can happen overnight acording to the machine shop we had the work done at.
The buyer claims this isn't what we listed and wants to know what we plan to do about it.
I know we don't want the engine back, per the reasons I stated before, A) they dropped it onto the trailer, B) its been out of care and control for a week and a week can do a lot of damage by the elements if not properly taken care of.
Any ideas on what good course of action would me?
