  • Do I have to report my 1099-R if the taxable amount is 0.00?

I already filed my taxes online, but forgot to include my 1099-R with retirement information. I rolled over my work retirement into a traditional IRA early last year. All of the boxes (except for the gross distribution) say 0.00, including the taxable amount. Do I need to send in an amendment for this or not?

  • How many years can you file a new unemployment claim?

I was laid off in January 2010 and my claim is good until January 2011. I actually ran out of money in my claim last month, but I applied for an extension (I think, or a new claim) and they put a little more money into my account, but the claim still only lasts until January. My fiance says that I can open a new claim next year, and continue receiving unemployment. I disagree...I think that once you've exhausted your claim for a year, and then get an extension, that's it. Can you continue to open a new claim every year until you get a job?

    Other info:

    1. I live in Colorado. I've already searched the Colorado unemployment website and cannot find an answer. It is also nearly impossible to speak to a human if you call their phone number.

    2. I do have a job currently...but it is less than part-time. I am a substitute librarian, and hours are becoming more and more infrequent. I have no hours lined up for November. Previously, I still only worked maximum 40 hours a month.

    3. Please, no negative comments about unemployment! Mine is a very hard field in which to get a job; it's extremely competitive. I am applying for pretty much every job I can. I even apply for shelving jobs in libraries, but I'm overqualified. Meanwhile, I don't have enough experience to get a regular librarian job. It's a Catch-22.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this issue!

  • Why can't I find my new mail in my Yahoo! inbox?

I just went to check my e-mail, and it said I had one new mail in my inbox. However, I can't find it anywhere! I scrolled down through all the e-mails in my inbox (there aren't very many), but I can't find the new one. What's happening?

  • How do I USE fonts in Gimp?

I know how to install fonts in Gimp...I just can't figure out how to use them. Where is the fonts toolbar? I can make a text box, but from there I'm lost. Does Gimp even come with any fonts of its own? Thanks.

  • Can a job scammer do anything bad with my resume?

I've been laid off recently, and in my desparation to find a job, I've turned to Craigslist. Not as my only source, of course, but I'll occasionally scour the ads. There was a job listed in my field a few days ago but they didn't list a company name. I think I knew then it was a scam, but I was desperate, so I naively sent the e-mail address my resume. I got a prompt response, saying that they wanted me to do an interview and bring in my credit report. Now, by this point, it was obvious it was a scam, and I am definitely not going to send them any more personal info. What I'm concerned about is that they have my resume. All that's listed on my resume is my name, address, phone, and e-mail address, along with a list of former jobs and references. Can job scammers do anything bad with that info alone?

    Thanks.

  • Do restaurant recipes have to be original?

If a person were to open a small, independently-owned restaurant, is it a requirement to use only original recipes? I mean, obviously, you wouldn't want to copy the recipes from other restaurants or major chains, but is it legal to use a published cookbook for your recipes?

  • Purple hair at a wedding?

For awhile now I have been wanting to dye my hair purple, just for fun. I bought some semi-permanent Splat hair color. The problem is, I'm attending a wedding this weekend, and I don't want to detract from the bride at all. Not that I'm flattering myself in that respect, but I've never dyed my hair a wild color before, and it's sure to attract a little attention. So, would it be rude to show up with purple hair?

  • Computer only works in safe mode after installing new RAM?

My fiance installed new, faster RAM in our computer. But then, the computer wouldn't start up! He even tried putting the old RAM back in, but nothing happened. So, with the new RAM, Windows XP will act like it's starting up, then get stuck loading. We can restart the computer in safe mode, but that's it. He's positive that he bought the right kind of RAM, and we don't know what to do. Help!

  • Adding a tip to my coffee shop bill?

This morning I stopped by a local coffee shop for a chai tea to go. The guy handed me the bill for my signature, and there was a tip line there. First of all, I'm always a little confused about tipping in counter-service restaurants and coffee shops. I usually add a small tip, even though I don't feel the two minutes of service is worth it, not like in a sit-down restaurant.

This morning I didn't add a tip. I wrote down the original amount, $3.80 as the total. The guy was nice, but I just didn't feel it necessary to tip him.

But this morning when I checked my bank account, he had automatically charged exactly 20% to my bill! $4.56. I hadn't authorized that! It's one thing if he wanted to ask at the time for a tip, but I clearly wrote on the bill $3.80. Is that allowed?

  • How much information are Kaiser doctors allowed to leave in phone messages?

I received a call today from Kaiser in response to some recent chest x-rays. They wanted me to call them back and set up a phone appointment with my personal physician. Part of me is thinking they'd only want to talk if something was seriously wrong (as opposed to say, sending a letter saying everything was fine) and part of me thinks that maybe they're just calling to say everything is okay, but they're not allowed to disclose any medical information in phone messages. So should I be worried?

  • Building a cob house?

I saw a cob house being built on the Discovery Channel (Dirty Jobs). I think this is a fantastic idea, and I've researched it a bit. I've found plenty of information about workshops, and resources on how to build your own cob house, but what if I don't want to build it myself? Frankly, I just don't have those kinds of skills, and I'm sure I wouldn't have time to devote to a workshop. (This is just a vague, future plan...not something I'm planning specifically right now.) Are there any companies/organizations that would build a cob house FOR me, without any of the workshops (or at least without my having to be involved)?

  • Why can't I post a comment to friends' Facebook walls?

I type in the comment, and press "post," but nothing happens. It only does this on my computer; it didn't used to. It appears to work perfectly on all other computers. Is there some weird setting I accidently changed on my computer that won't let me do this?

  • How do I make a sound recording (of me speaking) on my computer?

I have an HP Pavilion, Windows XP, and a microphone (Labtec) connected to my computer. I have a simple recording program that came with the computer called "sound recorder." When I tested it and spoke into the microphone, I heard no sound. Is there a program that I need to set up the microphone? Is there another sound recorder I should use?

Please help! I would like to have me narrating some videos for a vlog. Thanks!

  • Are there any vegetarian shows on Food Network?

I don't think there are, but I might be missing one. I think it's unfair that there's not at least ONE vegetarian show on the Food Network. I really enjoy cooking shows, and some of them have occasional vegetarian dishes, but nothing substantial.

  • Wedding invitations vs. announcements?

Okay, so I asked this question earlier about sending invitations to relatives who probably won't show up:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApSF....

And I was just talking to my mom about it, and she says that I could send out loads of wedding "announcements" in lieu of invitations; basically, just invitations with a different wording. I thought that this would be a bit confusing; what if people showed up when I didn't expect them to? Or what if people I WANTED to show up didn't, because they didn't think it was a formal invitation? What do you think about this? Is an annoucement really that distinguished from an invitation?
