I am working on a project for my A-level engineering and i am currently trying to develop an aquaponics system. At the moment I need help with deciding what plants to grow. The grow bed will be a circle of diameter approximately 50Cm. I've heard stories that some plants cannot have their roots constantly in the water which would not work for my NFT system where the water will be constantly flowing. Could someone possibly help me to understand why the roots of some plants wont be affected by the constant water flow and also add a list of plants that will be compatible.

I am currently working on an engineering A-Level project where i need to design and make an aquaponics system for a client. One of my clients requirements is that i use some freshwater species like Goldfish or Koi carp as they're both attractive and easy to look after. Are there any other species that i can use that will be available from pet stores and that will survive in the aquaponics system?

I have three lake malawi cichlids in a tank and all of which are knocking on adult maturity. Ive never been able to find out what species they were so some help would be appreciated. One is reasonably long and plain orange.. one is really big and plain purple in colour with 2 yellow egg spots and the last one is long, purple, and has dark blue stripes and black edges to its fins?! I turn 17 in October and so i have began to start looking for cars and the insurance that it will cost me. from looking on go-compare, i've found that the cheapest cars to insure are old classics like the VW beetle or Rover mini. I would really like to know if there are any other cool looking classic cars out on the market that would suit a 17 year old? they will have to have a small sized engine as well. recommendations would be great!

i have a 25 gallon fish tank that is empty and i was considering housing some reptiles in it! ive never done this before and so i am unaware about what i can keep in the tank without having to get a bigger one as HE/SHE/THEY get older. the tank is 80cm by 40cm by 30cm approx and is an open top. please respond sooon!!

i set up a smallish tank about a week ago to put cichlids in when i clean out their main tank and to also use as a place to raise baby cichlids when they are born, but the water in the tank is still cloudy. ive had everything running full blast for a week and nothing has changed. i have silica sand substrate and a few rocks but i dont think they are the main cause. there is also some scum on the surface of the water. what has happened? will it be ready to introduce fish?

i have a tank with 5 african cichlids in and i really want them to breed. i recently fed them frozen food because i read that it will make them want to breed after eating it and now their behaviour has deffinatly changed. when they swim along side eachother, they lean to one side. what does this mean? are they ready to breed? also, one of the cichlids is behaving more agressive towards some of the other fish more than normal. whats happening? should i eaxpect them to breed soon?

i have recently seen my 2 lake malawi cichlids doing the spawning circles, when the female opens her mouth and the male fertilises the eggs but i don't no what one is the female. now, a few days later i notice one of them darting to the surface to collect the food then it will swim back down. all of my other cichlids stay at the top when eating and are usually calm. is she mouth brooding? and how do i tell the gender?

i have recently bought a small clump of java moss and placed it over a medium sized log in my comunity tank. how long do you recon it would take the moss to grow over the whole log, and will any of my guppies, platies, tetras or guarmis eat it ?

i have just setup a new cichlid aquarium and have found out that they like to poop! i have just started to wander about tips on cleaning very fine sand substrate and maybe tools that you can buy to help!

i have just set up a large cichlid aquarium and it has matured for about a week now and i am just wandering if anyone could recomend me any semi agressive, good looking, good breeding, small cichlids for my new tank? also, does any one know a very small ray/loach/algea eater that can go in a large tank with african cichlids ?

I have just started a new 110 L cichlid aquarium and am looking for a filter that can deal with quite fine sand substrate preferably an external one!

i have just started a new, rather large, cichlid aquarium and the water in it is slightly acidic. (5.5 - 6). the fish require it slightly alkali (7 - 8.8). i used water from the tap and have not used any treatments yet. how do i get the water slightly alkali?

also, how do i get the water hard?

i am starting a new fish tank, housing african cichlids. They are quite small and i am going to purchase them in the next week from a local garden center. i no how to look after them and that to combat agression u need lots of little caves and rock holes for them to hide in and to clame there teritory. i no that they need sand and a little bit of gravel and no live plants as they like to eat them and lift them out of the sand.

i need to no how many small african cichlids my 25l or a bit bigger fishtank can hold ?

i am just about to start a new tropical fish tank for african chilids. i have done my Research on the fish but all i need to find is a small filter that is quite cheep (£0 - £15) and that is not to strong so that it doesn't blow the sand all around the tank !

WHY ISNT MY PLATIE PREGNANT!!!!?

i have had 3 platies for about 2 months now, 2 males and one female but my female hasn't managed to give birth once. she is always abit fat but never the size that i would have expected for a platie to be pregnant . please can i have some ideas on why she isn't giving birth and maybe a few tips?
