Why is it so difficult to become a doctor in Canada?
There are only 17 medical schools in Canada, and each medical school has an acceptance rate hovering around 6 to 7%. Harvard medical school has an acceptance rate of 3%... The university I go to, which is McMaster university has an acceptance rate of 4 to 5% for its medical school, and its no where near the prestige of Harvard. Yet in USA there are schools like LSU New Orleans that has an acceptance rate of 18%. I don't understand, why do they make it extra difficult to become a doctor in Canada? Please can someone explain?

1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)7 years agoI don't want to become an engineer anymore?...?
Hi....
I am in my second year of electrical engineering at McMaster university...
After going through really tough math, physics, and tech/eng related courses, I realized this stream of education, and career is not for me...
Math and physics ==> I can study enough to get by
tech/eng ===> I have no interest in programming or , designing., and keeping focus on these subjects is a struggle
I did a co-op term at an engineering firm ==> I cannot handle sitting in front of a computer using autocad designing machine parts, I would rather interact with people, and help them directly
The main reason I am in engineering is because
-both my parents and I believed that I have no aptitude in the life sciences, so we thought me becoming a doctor is a waste of time (I received low 70's in grade 11 for chem and bio)
-I thought that engineer's life is more sane than a doctor, less schooling, good money etc.
But the thing is in grade 12, I aced bought chem and bio, with 95, and 96% respectively (my highest marks in grade 12).
I really enjoyed organic, biochemistry, and human anatomy!!! (I received these marks, after I received my acceptance letters from university, so I did not apply to any life/health science programs in university).
What should I do???
Should I just graduate with the engineering degree, and work as an engineer for the rest of my life???
Or should I transfer to life science directly now so I can pursue the M.D.?
Or graduate, and then pursue life science so I can pursue the M.D.?
Please help!!

I want to seat in front of the class, so that I stay focused, and don't miss anything that I would miss if I sat in the back rows.

1 AnswerChemistry8 years agoDo you need to be good at biology to become a doctor?
Okay, I asked a provocative question to get your attentions.
Obviously you need to be good at biology to become a doctor...
Anyways, I want to become a doctor.
I took AP biology, AP physics, AP chemistry, and AP Calculus.
I got 96% in biology, 93% in chemistry, and 90% in calculus.
But AP physics, no matter how many questions I do... I can only get 83%...
Physics is too hard for me...
I do lots of extracurricular. I play soccer, and am in a dance team.
Is there a chance I can become a doctor?
PS
I posted this exact same question on the UK yahoo answers accidentally.
So I am reposting this question.

If no one can ever master a language, why do teachers except that anyone can get a perfect grades in English class?
For math and science teachers to expect that students should be able to get perfect grades in their class is feasible; their is no subjectivity like English classes.
I think English classes are unfair because there is absolutely no way of getting a perfect grade.
Hell, I bet if Shakespeare was alive and took an English class, he wouldn't be able to get a perfect grade in a literature class.
