Is there a trick to making the workshop give you nails instead of just stupid beams? Have you noticed a pattern to how often nails come out? Is there anywhere else to get nails?

It's probably pointless but has anyone figured out how to get fire? I've tried asking friends and they click the link but nothing happens. They just get directed to the game and I get nothing.
