  • Dog sneezing, grimacing, reverse sneezing?

Beginning Monday, my dog has been very frequently sneezing, grimacing, and reverse sneezing. The reverse sneezing doesn't come after exercise or anything exciting. He will grimace just sitting there...he isn't trying to pant. He is eating, defecating, and urinating normally. I tried giving him some Benadryl so it doesn't seem to be helping. The person working at the vet's office said to bring him in if he stops eating. If it's allergies, wouldn't the Benadryl at least help some? I'm worried about what might be the matter.

  • Dog permission/landlord question?

Hello. I was hoping for some advice into what course of action I could take, or if my landlord is in the right. I live in Texas, so I know we have some more laws covered in terms of oral and written permission (I took a class and I'm fairly certain I remember oral contracts are a big deal in Texas). Any advice is greatly appreciated! Below are some facts:

    1) My lease specifically states that no pets are allowed, but I've had multiple roommates have dogs while I was living there

    2) My landlord gave me verbal permission to keep a dog on the premises

    3) My landlord sent me an email stating that I have permission to have a dog. However, I can no longer find this email. I did copy/paste her text at the time into a word document. It has her name on the document, but no signature or to/from email addresses.

Here is the situation. After months of searching and applying to adoption agencies, I've been accepted and I'm ready to meet some dogs. I spoke to my landlord and she told me she is selling the house, and that if choose to move before my lease is up (august) she would not charge me over the summer. I got notice of her selling the house late, and can't move out until the end of July. Although I have a right to stay at the house, she has made suggestions that show me she doesn't like how late I am moving out. She also sent me a text stating that she strongly encourages me to not get a dog. If I got one, could I be evicted?

    Thanks!

  • Calming Supplements/Magnesium Supplementation?

I've been reading more and more about natural calming supplements and magnesium supplementation for horses that are anxious and have trouble focusing. I've was wondering if anyone has tried any natural supplementation like Magnesium 3,000 or 5,000 and if they have had success with them. I've had people tell me I should just drug my horse, and of course I wouldn't want to do that! I have read up on studies saying that horses with some behavioral problems and focus problems can have a magnesium deficiency, and you can't orally overfeed magnesium because excess is excreted. He is on a balanced diet, but I know the "balanced" diet is an average of requirements, and some horses might need a little more than average. One of my big concerns is I don't want him to become lethargic or lose his personality. Just more focused when we work, and less anxious!

    Thanks!

  • Logo Design Software/Photo Editing?

I would love y'alls opinion on what program I should get. I currently have Photoshop 5.0 and get along pretty well, but want something more up to date. I spend a lot of time editing images and designing logos. Which program do you think is the best for this, but is still user-friendly? I want to make sure my logos/images don't have pixelation problems, which I have found occurs in Photoshop when changing resolutions. Thanks!

  • What Equestrian Internships Have You Done?

I know this is something easily googled, but I was curious as to what some other people's internship opportunities were. I'm graduating in May with a bachelors in animal science with a minor in business administration. Please let me know what internships you have heard good things about, or have experienced first hand. Also, let me know if there is any place I should steer clear of!

  • Company Decreasing Shares of Common Stock Outstanding?

What does it mean when this happens? I know one thing it might mean is the company is buying back stock to increase the value on remaining stock. Is this the only benefit?

  • Mosquito Larvae in Auto Waterer?

I have a totally random question...one that Google couldn't answer for me. I noticed mosquito larvae in my horses' automatic waterer. I was surprised because I had cleaned the waterer out a few days prior. I was just wondering if your horse could experience any ill effects from ingesting the larvae.

    Thanks!

  • Hill Work? [20 Char]?

I'm interested in starting to build my horse's hindquarters using hill work. The property where I keep him at is small, and only has a couple hills of varying steepness degrees. I've been told that backing them uphill works wonders on the hindquarters. I was wondering if there are any other methods y'all suggest when you have a limited number of hills!

After I was done riding today, I hopped off and backed him up the hill about halfway because he was confused. Took very small baby steps and would like to continue some of these exercises. Also, anything "fun" to do with hills would be much appreciated. My horse gets bored easily and likes a challenge.

    Thanks!

  • Moderate Price, but Durable English Riding Boots?

I'm looking for black, lace-up English riding boots. I like shopping online and live in the states. I like using Dover and State Line Tack. Has anyone bought some good-priced boots from here that have lasted awhile? I ride at least 5 times a week, so I need some boots that will stand up to the riding but won't break the bank.

    Thanks!

  • Spot-On Fly Treatment?

I have been periodically using some spot-on fly treatments on my horse. After I put the liquid on my horse, he will pick up his legs, act like he is shaking a fly off, etc. This only lasts for maybe a minute, and he doesn't seem to be in pain or having an allergic reaction. I was just wondering if anyone else has had their horse do this. Is it just a tingling or stinging sensation? Thanks!

  • Yoga Ball for Horse/Horse Buddy Bopper?

Has anyone ever used one as a toy for their horse? I was looking at specifically made horse balls and they are over $100. I also found a toy called the horse buddy bopper and was wondering if anyone has bought it for their horse :)

  • Safe Mounted Games [20 Char]?

I am teaching clinics and are looking for some safe mounted games for a variety of experience levels. We don't want a bunch of run-down-the-arena races, as our main goal is safety while teaching horsemanship. The ones I have so far are:

    --Simon Says

--Red Light Green Light on the Rail

--Long Trot, Slow Trot, Extended Walk Races

    --Water/Egg and Spoon

    --Ride A Buck

Most of the kids will be riding barrel or pole horses, so we want to avoid the horses going nuts and booking it into other horses. Any ideas would be very helpful!

  • Horse Head Bumper for Trailer?

I have never used a head bumper, but after my horse cut his forehead today while traveling, I definitely want to invest in one as I will be traveling a lot with him this summer. We are going to be traveling in the very hot Texas heat, and I was wondering which is cooler for the horse: neoprene or leather/felt. I want to make sure if the neoprene is cooler, that it still protects well.

Anything else that can protect my horse's head when traveling?

  • Homemade Horse Toy Ideas?

I know many people have asked this, but I need some ideas for stall toys that don't take up too much room (ie, not a bucket or giant ball). My horse spends quite a bit of time in his stall. I have a jolly ball for him, constantly replace milk jugs, a rolling salt lick, and tennis balls hanging from a rope.

I don't want anything that takes up too much floor space because he likes to lay down a lot, and my trick is that he gets minimal turnout time because of this program we are doing (so nothing that requires room to run). I also can't get him lick-its because he finishes them in like 30 minutes.

    Any ideas? :)

  • Most Popular, Historic Kentucky Bourbons-- Derby?

I am making a basket for a Kentucky Derby fundraiser. I'm including two mint julep cups, and a few pints of various Kentucky Bourbons. I was wondering what is considered traditional for mint julep, or just historic and good in general!
