Interior design student, love Jesus, nannying, and new ideas. :)

  • Help me figure out what college degree I should pursue based on the job(s) I want! Please and thank you!?

I'm 23, originally went for a B.F.A. in Interior Design at a private school (don't ask) and unfortunately dropped out due to lack of quality life with a fulltime job. (couldn't quit job, needed money to pay for school), absolutely no time to complete lengthy, difficult for me assignments) I'm completely financially on my own with this. Making 30k annual as a self taught nanny but have dreams for bigger and better! Maybe 70-100k These are my potential interests:

I currently fulltime nanny and have the most hands on experience with newborns. I'm a certified Newborn Care Specialist and could potentially get a degree to support a career in midwifery, newborn sleep consultant, holistic parenting etc.

I'm very artistic. I would love to work remotely at this so I have complete flexibility to travel. I want to be a consultant for design projects and give feedfack on projects/freelance designer. AutoCad and such programs. Potentially fashion??

Could also start my own business. Making and selling just about anything. Maybe someone who just goes to yardsales/flea markets and fixes up old pieces and sells them for $$$? No idea.

Interested in environmental stuff, our waste in general. No idea on job on this one.

Excellent writer. Don't know what degree or job would fit this. People live off their blogs right???

Thank you thank you for your input! Any suggestions other then ones listed based on on personalty traits discussed.

  • Baby names for a mixed race couple?

I've been recently thinking about how my partner and I's baby will be named. He is from South India (Hindu religion), I'm from USA with Norwegian ancestry(Christian religion). We aren't getting pregnant for a long time, but still the question plagues my (maternally inclined) brain. What would we name our child when we got there? Before we fell in love, I had a clear list of baby names and was essentially "prepared".

    Girls:

    Elora

    Margot

    Beatrice

    Isla

    Cariba

    Cleo

    Maizie

    Geordi

    Madison

    Camille

    Cressida

    Chatham

    Zara

    Shay

    Olympia

    Boys:

    Geordi

    Asher

    Ashwin

(Boys list needs work, I know!)

But now, I'm very unsure. So, should our potential future child be named first name my heritage, middle name from his or vica versa? Should it just all be "english" name since baby will be raised in the US? Or are there blended names out there that I have yet to find! I have no idea. I'm on the hunt for more boys names, any and all suggestions though from both cultures appreciated. Thank you.

  • What are my options in rehoming an agressive dog?

We never thought we'd be in this situation ourselves but here we are. The landlord have given us three months to rehome our german shepherd after he bit someone in the house. (which was not the first time he bit) We never wished for this to happen and we know we need to take action, but if I sit down and think about it, what actions are there to take? Just simply a post on craigslist would do no good, and I still would like someone who would care for him as we have. We are still recovering finally after a job loss and can't afford any of the trainers who are willing to work with him. Breed rescues can't rehome him so therefore can't take him to begin with. Is euthanasia our only option then? He is not yet 2 years old. Please help. The most positive, tactful comments would be appreciated as this is an emotional time. thanks

  • Help me figure out my mental health diagnosis?

Today and other days, like maybe once a month I have have an episode where I argue with my husband (today was over going out or staying in and I really wanted to go out but he said I can go by myself and took a nap) which leads to endless crying and words come to my head like you re worthless and nobody cares and I feel completely alone and have suicidal thoughts. My husband just laughed I think he doesn t know how to react. I m so scared of myself during this time, I don t want to die and have never been that kind of person but this has just developed over the past year. I m scared of saying the wrong thing to make him shout at me. I m super sensitive to cursing and shouting because I came from a domestic abuse home. (No physical abuse just shouting and cursing and breaking things) I cried for an hour today and it took a long hot shower for me to totally calm down and come out of it. I don t know what s wrong with me and don t feel comfortable just yet going to the doctors because I don t want anyone to freak out about the negative thoughts. Even here I m scared someone will report me or refer to hotline. Idk like I said this is new to me j just want some feedback so I can see if I can know how to treat it. Positive words appreciated thanks

  • how to rent with a german shepherd?

Nobody is accepting us, all rentals have a 20lb pet limit. We have a quiet, sweet, affectionate shepherd who is well behaved, actually better than most small dogs. We ve been looking for 6 months in NJ area right outside of NYC. We re married and both work our asses off. We are in no shape to buy a house right now. What are our options?? Are there any websites with listings I m missing? Please and thanks.

  • Financial situation, we're newlyweds?

Newlywed husband and I have a joint account. We both work, I waitress part time and take care of the house/walk the dog and he works concrete inspections 40-60 hours per week. We both get paid biweekly on alternating weeks so there is a paycheck every week, although mine is half of what he makes. The main issue is my cousin's big wedding coming up on our one year anniversary. He just got paid a decent amount and he is sending $500 right off to his parents who pay his $800 monthly student loan bill. He is telling me to go to the wedding by myself because it's going to be way cheaper. I'm really hurt, I carefully planned out a way to pay for the trip by paying for lodging with one check, car rental with the next, and someone to watch the dog/food with the last paycheck but he said no before I could even explain this. It really means a lot to me to go and celebrate our own relationship and have a small affordable vacation (total cost just about $500) but he doesn't care and only wants to stick to the basic needs and keep working to make money.

  • Please HELP me new dog behaviors?

I traveled and purchased a 1 year old purebred German Shepherd almost two weeks ago. He was beautiful, energetic, and happy. We took him home and realized his beauty is about the only thing going for him.

#1. He does not eat: We thought maybe a couple days he would refuse and he did, that was fine. We just kept him hydrated and active hoping to eventually increase appetite. Nope. He is still not eating his food. He came to us with visible ribs, I really want to provide him with excellent nutrition but how can I? He just sniffs the bowl and walks away.

#2. He whines while in his crate. This is huge. Being 1 year old he still jumps and chews on things (I mean everything) so we made the decision to put him in his crate and take him out during the day. He gets two backyard play sessions, 2 small potty walks, and one long 2 hour walk in the beautiful park per day and sometimes the dog park and he is still whining and scraping the bottom of the crate to come out. I would love for him to be out of his crate and with me, cooking and cleaning or doing whatever I have to do for that day but he would be exhibiting those destructive behaviors which I can't have.

#3. He pulls on leash and barks at bicycle/runners. He absolutely goes crazy for bicycles for whatever reason. When we realized he pulled, we got him a gentle leader which was like a godsend. I could walk him all by myself and he behaved but it caused some small sores on the muzzle so we stopped using.

    Any ideas dog experts?

  • Post graduate boyfriend is draining my income?

Typical stupid "girl in love" story: My boyfriend of 6 months was insistent- he would get a job with his master's degree within a couple weeks, a month tops and half a year later, no job. I never made him feel bad, I'm not the type to. I would always pay for dinners and transportation without expecting anything in return and it worked. Now my job situation has changed and I'm also job hunting and he wants to move in and will be expecting me to pay "my rent" like I always do. I don't know what to say or do, but financially it's time to put my foot down. I don't want to cause stress, but I also want him to get a job. He has at least 2 interviews per week he working hard at it but any job hiring in his field tells him he has "no experience". Etc please help! And try to be understanding we are mid twenties just trying to live life! Thank you.

  • How should I as a college student compound my money?

Rent is paid for and so is school for the time being, and I still have about $400 left over from every bi weekly check. I choose to live frugally/simply so I do not own a car, do not have expensive house or condo, and I do not do spring break in Miami. lol I would like to know the best place to put my money to compound, (business or even maybe actual investing) preferably one that betters the world. My ideas so far include:

Renting a nice place and then having it available on air bnb.

Designing and selling items on Etsy. (I'm an interior design major)

That's it. :) Your help appreciated! And if you say keep it for myself and my future retirement, not going to happen. X) lol thank you

  • Something has to go, should I quit fulltime work or school?

I am 21 years old, moved from Maine to NYC to pursue nannying/interior design school. The two have seemed to work well together when I was working part time except I was extremely broke..like going to be homeless and ramen noodles breakfast/lunch/dinner broke. Now that I work fulltime, I have more financial freedom and pay my school bills independently, but my grades are taking the hit and I'm not available for help outside of school which I need to succeed. Also, while working and going to school fulltime, I am taking out loans to pay for school and I fear the American drive for higher education will shut off my common sense and I will be left with all that debt and have nothing to show for it. Please please help, those who have been there let me know what you chose and why/what was more important to you. Thanks :)

  • First kiss last night, I'm 20 years old!?

So I'm a college student and I was home visiting family for the weekend from NYC and I decided to meet up with this friend from tinder (we had long since moved over to Facebook) with whom shared my home state. He had driven 4 hours from his home back to college where my family was and I kept apologizing for making him come but he insisted he chose to come and so I relaxed.

We watched a horror movie (mutual interest) and I was so scared he wasn't going to make a move at all because a few of my other dates had pretty much sat there and then just gone home. Well, we were already good friends and were almost annoying the other moviegoers around us with how much we analyzed the movie. (i.e. who dies first and how and why) XD I leaned in to whisper to him about the movie with my fingers like an L shape on my face and then he said, Oh yeah? :), hooked his arm through mine, and grabbed my hand. I smiled and he flipped up the armrest. The rest of the movie was honestly a blur haha he kept tracing my arm and hand with his fingers in my lap which made me and my body go wild.

Then, we went to say goodnight and we sat in his car and blasted heat/music and talked laughed like kids. I was getting out to leave, and he said wait, I was to shy because I thought I was going to be "bad" so I pulled away quickly. We talked about my kissginity for 1/2 an hour, then he went slow and the rest is history! :) He never frenched though, and I was a little confused. lol Share your first kiss story?

  • Family/baby issues..?

So it's 5:30 am here est and I'm tired... I'm a 20 yo student home from college and I also nanny in NYC. I so very kindly volunteered to watch my niece in nephew (18 months and 3 months) at my parents house for the night because I really miss them.

The problem is our dad. He has no desire to watch them but can't STAND to hear them crying. He has just woken me up for the ??? time insisting if you give the 3 month a bottle and change she'll go right back to sleep. I explained that I had done that already and there's nothing more I could do. When he persisted, I offered to let him watch her for the night but of course he refused. I was sleeping (or almost asleep) when he opened my door to let me know all this which, trust me I have already learned the hard way.

My personal rule is when you watch the babies, you get to use your own style provided all their needs are met with no interference. Agh this sounds pretty atypical and bitchy, but I'm hoping someone out there knows what I'm going through and also what to do. I'm thinking maybe a parenting class for dad to learn more what do you think? Negative comments will be deleted thank you.

  • I want to offer free weekend childcare as a college student, what should I do?

I am a college student living in Newark and I have every Fri-Sat-Sun off from my main position with one newborn in NYC. My bills are paid and I am finally living comfortably here so I want to help others who may not be able to afford the money. Maybe single parents, single parent students, or just plain regular moms with multiple kids or a 24/7 newborn who need a break.

I have 7 years of childcare experience, ages nb-8 years with an emphasis shifting towards newborns/baby nurse/doula training. I am experienced with open ended play, baby led weaning, breastfed babes, cloth diapered infants, and also potty training. I have recent CPR certification and I will be working on my newborn care specialist certification sometime soon. I enjoy baby wearing, reading books, eating our fresh fruits and vegs, and getting outside. :)

I live with 5 other girls in a large, 2 story home with kitchen/backyard/playgrounds and museums nearby so there is ROOM to explore. It is a safe neighborhood, predominantly gated apartments for Rutgers/NJIT students. I am confident because I do have roommates, the way I see it just 4 more pairs of eyes but not everyone will approve. (and most babysit on the side as well)

I feel this would be flagged instantly on CL for being fake so I won't be posting there.. I'm trying to keep this more professional anyways. Any ideas? Facebook? Maybe post a flyer in the nearby colleges? hospitals? daycares? Word of mouth? Would you do this yourself? idk Lmk, thank you.

  • A childish rant about the lady I rent from..because that's what I am?

I'm 20 years old. I shouldn't have to act any older than I am. I shouldn't have to swear and smoke and drink until I puke to be taken seriously. I shouldn't have to be depressed and suicidal to be considered "mature" and "smart". Just because I'm in your house does not give you the right to yell at me for 10 minutes straight and then end it, not giving me a chance to stick up for myself. You say things like you're "getting me ready for the real world", that my bosses will do the same thing. You use my age as an excuse, stabbing me over and over again in the chest "just because". You know about my past, you know how my dad used to hit my mother, shouting profanity and breaking anything around him. I am shy around raised voices, I cry when someone's upset at me, does that make me weak? I can never act my age, I can never be happy because I'm supposed to grow up fast. I hate the lady I live with...

  • Can I, as a college student with little to no income get food stamps for myself?

I am a 20 year old fulltime student living in NJ. I moved from Maine and secured a job and a place to stay in three weeks but now that (good paying) part time job has ended. I live with a couple with no kids and another roommate. I realize I am still considered a "dependent" by the state, does this mean I need to put in my family's ss #s and info even though they live back in Maine? I also do qualify for work study, but the program last I heard is temporarily on hold at my school.

I literally have no money for any extras including food. It's been this way for a month and many people have told me to get food stamps which I would gladly do it if only I could. I basically eat at free events on campus now, my roommate also brings me leftovers and I go to a food pantry every Saturday which is huge, but doesn't provide a balanced diet at all. Help for points, thanks

  • Those who rent a room from house owners, are these normal rules?

I moved in about a week ago and the house owner has already gone over rules to follow that I have very little experience with since I moved to this room from my own apartment. In addition to normal picking up after yourself rules, I am not permitted to use the fridge, washer, and dryer. (they have a fridge in the basement for tenants) There is no food permitted in the rooms, which I understand for mice and stuff but I am also to keep my room clean at all times? And the last one, I am to announce when I leave or return the house, which I have no experience with whatsoever. Do any of you have experience with these renter's rules at all? Sounds like a lot to me, to be honest.
