Compatibility issues with AMD CPU, AMD motherboard, and Nvidia GPU.?
There seems to be some speculation going around that having an AMD platform and using an Nvidia GPU brings up compatibility issues. There have been numerous theories that include: having an Nvidia southbridge chipset will help out compatibility, PhysX will not work/sometimes will not work with an AMD CPU/motherboard, you will get less frames with an AMD CPU purely for the fact that it is an AMD CPU (not for performance bottlenecks).
I've done some research on the subject. No one has ever brought up any evidence for this theory. It seems to me that this is a commonly agreed upon issue, yet no one has ever offered to prove this.
So the main question is, does using an AMD platform with an Nvidia GPU bring up compatibility issues? If so, how does this happen, and what makes this different from using an Intel/Nvidia, Intel/ATi, AMD/ATi setup?

Here's a budget rig that I put together that will be used primarily for gaming, and sound/video/photo editing.
I already have 2 WD Caviar Black 1TB HDs in Raid 1, and 2 Samsung SH-S223s that will be transferred over to this new rig. I also already own a copy of Windows 7 64 bit, and Ubuntu Studio dual booted.
This is coming off of a Q8200/GT120 setup.
All 120mm fans in the ATCS 840 will be replaced with Noctua NFP12s for intakes and Noctua Noctua NF-S12B for exhaust.
I will be doing some mild overclocking of the CPU, but none on the GPU. Later on down the line I will probably overclock the CPU a bit more heavily.
This is mainly a post to see what you all think. Opinions on parts? I don't want to hear any "OMGzors!? Like, you should get Nvidia cuz they R BETTERS than ATI lol!!!!!1111" Give me a solid reason why I should change parts and I'll consider it. Remember, I'm going for a more "silent" build since I will be doing audio recordings (don't have a reliable sound booth).
So... what do you all think?
2 AnswersAdd-ons1 decade agoIpod Classic: Play, FFWD, RWD, and center buttons not working.?
In the middle of a song, I wanted to go check my settings, so I hit Menu, and NOTHING HAPPENS. I try to pause it, and NOTHING HAPPENS. Turns out, my Play, ffwd, rwd, menu, and Center buttons aren't working. The scroll wheel still works.... The back light and harddrive are all working, its still playing music and going through my playlist...
Maybe a wiring problem?

4 AnswersMusic & Music Players1 decade agoMy new budget gaming rig (opinions!!)?
I'm upgrading my 1 1/2 year old rig. I want to tackle the newer games on higher settings. I'm sick of crappy, un-antialiased, low textured gaming. My old rig is as follows:
Intel Q8200 (stock cooler)
Gateway CRAP mobo (unoverclockable)
8GB 800MHz DDR
Nvidia GT120 1GB
Generic 640GB 7200RPM SATA II w/ 16MB Cache
Generic 450w PSU
My new system (yet to purchase, just need some opinions):
Antec 1200 or
i7 920
Either the Noctua NH-U12P or ProlimaTech Megahalem (with 2 Yate Loon D12SH-12s)
Asus P6T
OCZ Gold 6GB Tri Channel DDR3 1333
XFX Radeon HD 4890
Antec CP-850 850W PSU
Yep. A FULL system upgrade. I'm hoping to not have to replace anything for at least 2 years, SO I left alot of room for upgrades: 2 extra and all case fans upgraded, memory up to 24 GB (SO UNNECESSARY!), 3 way SLi or CrossfireX, memory cooler if I want to push the clock speed, and if it comes right down to it... water cooling! *DUNDUNDUN!!!!!*
Getting MW2, when it comes out (i know, p2p is gay, but whatever man. Gotta take the good with the bad!). Picking up CRYSIS: Warhead, so... gonna be fun!
Let me know what you guys think! I don't wanna hear any, "OMFG! liek, Nvidia is TOTALLY better than ATi!!!! lolz!!"
I'm trying to keep everything within a $1000 budget. The i7 costs me only $120 from a friend, so lucky me! The 1200 and the CP-850 comes in a bundle deal, saving me $80 bucks. The HD4890 is refurbished, saving me $20.
So, how'd I do in my choice of rig?
P.S. My girlfriend has just informed me that she will be buying me a SECOND graphics card!! Say hello to CrossfireX!
XD
