  • Can you help me understand?

With all the current fuss about airline security and whether or not people want to go through an imaging machine or get a patdown, I wonder what are they looking for? Some say that they are looking for explosives, this is where I am confused, tell me what kind of explosives can be detonated without some form of metal, be it plastice, powder or a meatl bomb, I believe you need some form of trigger. What can be used as a trigger that is not metal that will cause a large enough explosion to bring an airplane down and can be hidden from a metal detector, walk through or hand held?

  • What happens now that the Neo-Cons are back in charge?

Now that the Republicans have taken control of the house of representatives, what will they do now? Will they admit to the people that is hard and going to take time to repair the economy now that they are in charge or will they continue to obstruct for political power, will they now try to drum up support for impeaching the President or will they get to work and try to help get the country moving forward? My guess is they will try to do all they can to bring down the President, country be damned, they are going to try to bring back the policies that brought us to the edge of disaster they have already said they want to roll everything back to where it was in 2008, and what did we get for that? They say they want to lower the deficit, will that mean ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan because of the cost or will they just want to cut what the people need most and leave the "military industrial complex" and the rich alone to reap big rewards at our demise.

  • For the Chicago Bear fans out there, isn't it time for Lovie and Jerry to go?

I have been following DA BEARS for 27 of my 43 years and I have to say I haven't seen a more incompetent pair in Chi-Town, it's time for them to go while we have dratf picks and a good young group to build on. They have been given what they asked for, from Cutler to the additions on defense, and look what they are doing with it, there are some good coaches available and we need to make a move. With the exception of the superbowl year, which I would argue was more a credit to Ron Rivera running the defense, after which dumb a$$ Lovie fired him, they have done nothing but tear our team down, no more excuses they need to go NOW. Am I being irrational?

  • Why did we lose so many jobs?

Republicans have been whining about allowing the Tax cuts that they passed in 2001 and 2003 with an expiration date, to expire claiming that to do so would kill jobs and burden the economic recovery, can anyone tell me, with all the tax cuts in place and the free market de-regulated to the point of nearly no enforcement/over watch why did we lose so many jobs and have a near economic collapse in the first place? If these things worked so well we should be wallowing in the success of such policies, I know some of you don't like the President or his policies, but his first budget didn't even kick in until this year, so if the repubs knew so well what to do and how to govern the country, so much so, that we should put them back in power, why did we go into the recession in the first place and how do we know they won't sink us right back down into the abyss?

  • What will LeBron James do?

D-Wade and Chris Bosh have agreed to sign with Miami, the Bulls have agreed to terms with Carlos Boozer, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce have agreed to terms with the Celtics, I don't think The Cavaliers have the cap room to bring in a major player if there are any left to help LBJ, so what is he left with? The Bulls are the only team that can give LBJ what he wants, if, he wants RINGS. He wont be "the man" in Miami, but in Chicago with D. Rose, Noah, and Boozer, he can be "the man" and win several RINGS. No other team can give him a real shot at winning it all for the next few years but the Bulls. I say this while also saying that I am a big Bulls fan that doesn't want LBJ, but reality is, what it is, and if he wants championships and immortatlity in the NBA,the Chicago Bulls are his BEST option. The chance to out-do MJ is just icing on the cake.

  • Can you make a reasoned argument of how the president is not doing a good job?

I keep up with all the latest news, from Fox, CNN, HLN to MSNBC, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Monica Crowley, Ed Schultz, Keith Olbermann, and Rachel Maddow. I have yet to hear anyone make a clear and coherant argument about why they think the President is doing a bad job, all I hear is hatred, jealousy, and desire for him to fail from the right and complaints about him not being liberal enough from the left, when the truth of the matter is just like Clinton he never claimed to be a liberal and campainged as a moderate. While you may disagree with me that's fine, but can you make a well reasoned argument as to why he is not doing a good job with the situation he was dealt?

  • Why do the polls matter now?

For eight years, the polls, like the deficit meant nothing to the GOP, like when they and their president were forcing a war down our throats while we were in a recession, when all the polls at the time were against going to war, and were spending money and giving tax breaks to the wealthiest people in the country while building up the deficit. Also where were the Tea-baggers when all this was going on? So tell me why should we pay attention to the polls now, is it because we now have a black President and a Democratic congress?

  • Which of these things do you think should have been done by now and who could have done them?

    9 months into his first term and President Obama is being called a failure by some because he has not accomplished the following;

1.Brought all the troops home from Iraq.

    2.Won/ended the war in Afghanistan.

    3.passed health care reform.

    4.Fixed unemployment.

    5.Fixed the economy.

6.Brought peace to the middle east.

7.Created a bipartisan atmosphere in washington.

Truth be told I don't believe anyone could have finished any of these things in their first term let alone their first nine months. At least he has made them priorities and started to take steps to address all of the issues, which is more than anyone could ask and more than any one before him had the courage to try. If you think these things could have or should have been accomplished by now I ask you, by who and how?

  • Doesn't it just take 51 votes to pass a bill?

I remember in school learning that in the U.S. Senate of the 100 senators any bill needed the votes of 51 to win approval and become law, so why does the media and all the talking heads keep saying that health care reform needs 60 votes to win passage. 60 votes are needed to defeat a filibuster, if the republicans want to filibuster the bill then make them really filibuster don't assume they will and look for 60 votes off the bat, make people declare themselves whether they be republican or democrat. Bring a bill to the floor and make them filibuster or vote it up or down this way we know who we need to work on getting out next election. Bottom line is all the senate rules call for is a 51 vote majority for passage of any bill, so the media and talking heads are being disingenuous about how many votes are needed to pass a bill. This way they can play up what they like to call the "nuclear option" and make it sound nefarious, have we really been dumbed down that much where we don't even know the basics about how our government is supposed to work?

  • What are the safeguards?

So Max Baucus has submitted a plan for healthcare reform, and there is a fine for anyone under 55 who does not buy health insurance. Is there a provision in his plan to make sure the Insurance companies won't rape the people with price hikes in premiums once everyone is required to buy insurance? About 20 years ago California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi pushed a law requiring everyone to have auto insurance, prior to the law being passed I was paying $75.00 per month for full coverage on a classic van and a honda cx500 motorcycle I was 22 years old with no accidents or tickets. After the law was passed my insurance company raised my premium to $375.00 I had to sell my motorcycle and drop my coverage to just liability on my van, just because there was now a requirement to have insurance, the insurers knew they had everyone over a barrel and they could charge what they wanted because the law said everyone had to have insurance, so I ask, does Bacaus have provisions to prevent the companies from raping the people who would be REQUIRED to by insurance under his plan?

  • What was she yelling?

So John McCain had a woman kicked out of his town hall meeting because she would not stop yelling according to the AP, but there is no mention of what she was yelling, why is that, is it because she was in favor of health care reform does anyone know what she was yelling to get her thrown out of the meeting?

  • Are you REALLY against Health Care Reform?

We have watched as people have brought guns of many different types, to events where the P.O.T.U.S is having town hall meetings. We have people who did not vote for the President, that wish ill effects on him, get into places where he is. During the campaign for Democratic Nominee, Mr. Obama was approached by an individual that he had to avoid himself, in front of a restaurant While they say you should respect the office of the President, they preach and push that we should not trust the government NOW. Do you know anyone or have you been denied coverage and suffered negative results, as an end point, has someone you care about passed away recently that had insurance but it just wasn't enough. If your child is in a class with a child whose parents can't afford health insurance, and that child gets something, no matter what, all the kids in the class are at risk, your child / children and others, what if, your co-worker had insurance through the company, but you don't maybe you get something that spreads through the rest of the employees. Health Care reform is not a simple issue, and can't be decided as such. But I understand that if it is not offered then me and my family are susceptible to what ever is going thru society at the time. If we were all covered I would not have to care or worry about other sick people that can't afford Health Insurance. What say you?

  • Am I wrong, if so tell me why.?

It's friday night August 7, 2009, and as I sit here trying to watch Hannity's America, I am becoming more and more convinced that when he and people like him ie. Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Chris Matthews, most of the hosts and guests on Fox News, and the Republican Party, and yes even Michael Steele, talk about the "American People" what they mean is white people, I watch the coverage of the disruptors at the town hall meetings and the people at the so called Freedom Concert and all I see is whites, I am trying hard to find black, asian, or hispanic faces there and I can find none. There is Oliver North, the convicted criminal who was caught defying congress with the Iran Contra scandal of the mid 80's, but no minorities. Am I wrong about what I am seeing, are they not doing all they can to incite hatred against our president and creating an environment of violence and destruction against the United States? I have lived in the south and been subjected to some severe and overt racism in my life but I have always hoped that this country would move away from that, and for a while believed that we were but now since we have a black president and a democrat controlled congress it seems that these people and the republican party are acting as though the world has come to an end and the only way to save it is through violence and the overthrow of this country, can some one please explain to me why I am wrong in feeling this way.

  • What do you call them?

A group of people gather at an event with the intent being to stop any discussion from happening on the topic of health care reform, they yell, scream, and do all they can to stop any rational discussion from taking place, they don't care if there are people there who want to ask a question and get a reasonable answer from their representative, they seek only to disrupt and have their claims heard they are not looking for answers to their question because they believe they already know the answer. They believe any answer or comment given to their claims are going to be lies, because that is what they have been told by the likes of Rush, Hannity, and the Insurance companies that are and have been ripping us and them off for years and don't want that to change so they disrupt and allow no one to be heard or get a chance to ask even the simplest question.

They remind me of the crowds that would gather with the only intent being to hang a black man for a crime that they say he committed and they are not willing to hear any rationale that says he is innocent, they only know they want him strung up and strung up now.

So I ask what do you call them, if not a "mob"?

  • What's is the problem?

For over 300 years the United States of America and its democracy have survived, whether it be a civil war, Presidential malfeasance, corrupt Senators or House members, whether it be federal, state, or local government. We defeated communism, marxism, and more "isms", than anyone wants to admit, are we going to allow racism to destroy what no other thing, country, or belief, has been able to destroy over these many years. What are you really afraid of? The USA will survive whatever happens with the current government, are you really upset that an African American is the President of the United States. No hiding behind the budget, health care, or the national debt, because in the 42 years that I have been on this earth, as an African American, living in America, the politicians have been doing the same things whether Dem or Rep. Please in the truest way you can answer, what are you afraid of? We are ALL Americans and have to live in this country together, as the saying goes, "Either we stand TOGETHER, or we fall APART", why do we allow ourselves to be separated by one party or the other, the only answer can be superiority, one people believe they are better and deserve more than another. What say you?
