Why do I get a gray transparent screen with a box in the middle when I try to shut down my apple laptop?
I have an Apple PowerBook G4, OS X 10.4.11. Each time I shut down I get this gray semi-transparent screen with a box in the middle giving me instructions about shutting down. I must hold down the power switch in order to shut down.
I recently replaced the battery but this problem was present at the end of the old battery but not so often. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks to all those who respond.

My daughter loves to play the Sims but this means she is always on the computer when I wish to use it. I want to buy her an Xbox for Christmas but she tells me playing the game on an Xbox is not the same. Is this true. I want my computer back!
