  • Have you ever been in this situation?

My ex and I have a 12 year old son together. We have both re-married, and my present husband treats my son as if he were his own, and spends more quality time with him than his biological dad. My son has said that he wants to live with his dad permanently. Our current arrangement is he spends 50% of his time with his dad and 50% of his time with me. I am opposed to him living with his dad on a permanent, full-time basis because I do not feel that his dad's home is a good environment for my son. There is little supervision at his dad's home, and his dad is a heavy drinker and a smoker, and my son has asthma. His dad is also racist, and has little respect for law enforcement. I believe that the main motivation for my ex to want my son to live with him is that he would not have to pay child support. I have explained to my son why I do not want him to live with his dad, but he still insists he wants to live with his dad. Any suggestions/ideas/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
